3. Study vs Work
Miransky ,   Alabama   (11.11.09)
OK, I can see that the "best and brightest" scholars should be encouraged by society to devote their lives to learning and making real contributions to Jewish knowledge. However, what kind of society lets mediocre and poor students avoid work and "learn" indefinitely? What a waste for society, and what a racket for the haredim.
4. You Mean Do Something Other Than Leach Off Seculars That The

5. I dont get it..Here in Canada some very good businesses are
Al   (11.11.09)
run by Hassidic Jews... In fact quite a number of these people are wealthy who contribute greatly to many causes. Do you think that were the average Israel to stop his hatred towards these people and incorporate them into Israeli business life then all would benefit. I guess I am asking too much for most Israeli Jews seem to have this complex about the fact that some people can be wealthy and religious at the same time. Finally dont give me the lack of service to the State BS,,,for many of the finest menchin (Olmerts kids and others ) have not served as well and that doesnt seem to have stopped them from raping the country.
6. All in one boat.
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (11.11.09)
I dont think so Mr finance minister. Most I think are in Tug boats and its all getting a bit too much, lighten our load and force the work shy into the work place and into the army.We all must work and share the defence burden. After all we claim to be an enlightened society.
7. AMEN, Minister Steinitz!
M. Martin ,   NYC/Tel-Aviv   (11.11.09)
By the way, it was great meeting you in New York :) Yuval Steinitz most definitely knows what time it is and I hope he becomes Prime Minister one day.
8. Haredim in NY support themselves because they have no choice
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (11.11.09)
Everywhere outside Israel, everyone is expected to support themselves. If other haredim want to support your life of Torah study, good luck with that. But don't expect the taxpayer to support you. Maimonides, of course, railed against Torah study as a community supported "occupation". He was, of course, a physician. But most of the Torah greats had to make a living. Akiva was a wood cutter. Rashi was a vintner. Luria was a spice dealer, while many of his students were in the textile business. Why are today's haredim unwilling to do likewise?
9. amen , minister, if they work they will stop they work agai

Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.11.09)
Yes , and in my birth country charidim also worked , i had even charidi people working with me . Here , they are allowed to "milk" the State , something they can't do abroad . Do they receive child allowances in your country when they are'nt working ? It's not because of the "hatred" , as you wrote , that they are not working . Saying this , as you do , is the same as those who said that the Jews were guilty themselve for the slaughter during WWII .
11. #5 In Israel it's different
(11.11.09)
Those chareidim who want to go to work have to serve in the army first. Chareidim can never join such an immoral army and mixed men with women.
12. FANCY USING SUCH FOUL LANGUAGE
LAWRENCE RAP ARTISTE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.11.09)
Ynet, please stop using filthy four- letter words such as WORK and JOBS and the most offensive term yet used EMPLOYMENT.
13. LET'S FACE IT,WORK IS FOR
LAWRENCE RAP ARTISTE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.11.09)
SUCKERS. Ma ??? ani Freier? i was once considering opening an english style Fish And Chip shop but people told me don't be a Fryer (or was it Freier?)
14. Jobs ???
Miriam Woelke ,   Tel Aviv   (11.11.09)
How is the government planning to provide all these jobs when the present unemployment rate has been high for the past years ? Where are they going to put all the new workforce. ? Many Haredim have been working for a long time. Especially for their communities as teachers, rabbis and businessmen.
15. hypocrasy
larry from la ,   los angeles   (11.11.09)
didn't Ynut have an article last week on how employers do not want to hire arabs, blacks or Charadis? Some one should communicate with the employers. As a Charadi engineer who worked many years in Israel, I experienced first hand, many times, hostility and discrimination in hiring and in company policies. Maybe they should speak to the employers and get them to stop discrimination. Being not religious by birth and only after working many years, I find that Charadis as better workers.
16. # 11
Birdi ,   Israel   (11.11.09)
Wrong;in order to work in Israel, one does not have to serve in the army. To work as a civil servant tho,one has to have served in the army.
17. Cut their social security benifits
Avi ,   Israel   (11.12.09)
For to long these free loaders have been living off the state while contributing nothing. The only reason they do it here in Israel is because they know they can get away with it. The charideem abroad work, just look at the thriving diamond bussiness in Belgium for an example. The only solution is to cut their funding as this will force them to join the work force , create new businesses and contribute to the state.
18. Hareidim to work? Stop the handouts.
Ben Avraham ,   Tel Aviv   (11.12.09)
19. It's the world norm
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (11.13.09)
It's about time Haridim join the work force. They do not get government hand outs any place else. In any other country they have to earn their living. So there is no "real" reason they cannot do so here
20. One simple condition
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim,   (11.15.09)
B"H In order for haredim to work one simple condition must be met: companies must allow them to stay at home on Shabbat and on Jewish holidays. Very few of them actualy does so. How often you read codeworded ads like "at least one weekend shift per month"? It means the post is for seculars only.
