Assad: Syria wants peace talks    AFP
1. Peace with Syria? Certainly! Peace for Peace!!!
Eitan ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (11.13.09)
2. asad ready for talks
what rights? you have no rights over the golan.
shu ,   uk   (11.13.09)
3. what Syria/ Assad wants...
is to exorcise even the slimmest chance they will never be held responsible for harboring and aiding terror, for the assassination of Rafik Hariri, for building a clandestine nuke facility and for being the go between for lethal weapons shipments from Iran to Hezbollah. Notice, Assad up to now shakes hands with leaders of the world as though nothing has happened. He is accepted everywhere. He speaks peace to escape the realities of his regime as nothing more than smoke and mirrors. Worse our leaders know this but care less. Syria gets away with murder because they can.
Lior ,   Israel   (11.13.09)
4. WHY EVEN ENTERTAIN ASSAD??
Why should Israel even entertain this fool?? If I went and approached a Casino ,for example, and told them I had lost some money there and please could I have it back would they entertain me ?? They would tell me,in no uncertain terms ,to get lost .Syria gambled with Israel and lost so it can get lost.Israel must prepare for war, sadly ,and if Syria is aggressive again they will lose again and lose yet more land because Assad is a loser. He should have stuck to what he knows...Opthalmology.
LAWRENCE RAP ARTISTE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.13.09)
5. arabs lie
Don't trust Syria. What they can't get with violence, they will try to get through negotiation and then ignore anything they said or signed. Peace with arabs can only come after victory and re-education to rid them of their murderous culture.
alan ,   texas   (11.13.09)
6. no peace with fascist regime! Bibi don't sell out israel.
ygalg ,   israel   (11.13.09)
7. Assad said the same thing about Hatay in Turkey/
Before the Islamist goverment in Turkey took over a few years ago. The goverment before that told Syria Hatay belongs only to Turkey Syria finally came to the conclusion only peace for peace will be accepted by Turkey. Syria should accept the same thing with the Jewish Golan.
Steve Meyer   (11.13.09)
8. Golan does not belong to Syria
The Golan was in Jewish hands in Hasmonean and Roman times, as archeological evidence attests. It was granted to the Jewish homeland under the League of Nations Mandate. It was temporarily in Syrian hands until 1967 when Israel, responding to Syrian aggression, retook it. It's now back in the hands of its rightful owner.
Ken Rosen   (11.13.09)
9. Proof Golan is historically Israels.
Proof Golan is historically Israels. Brilliant article http://xrl.us/bmfrf My thoughts. Syria controlled the Golan for only 21 years, half the period it has been under Israeli rule. Almost half of its territory has been purchased by Rothschild and later robbed by the Syrian government in 1946. Jews that settled in the Golan under Rothschild were expelled, massacred in 46 by Syria. The Golan Heights was part of the British Mandate borders of 1917. The Golan was never part of Syria before 1946. The Brits made a deal to give away the Golan to France in 1923. France then gave away the Jewish Golan to terrorist Syria in 1946, Subversive cells of LEFT-WING RADICALS have no right to give away our inherited homeland. East Jerusalem and the Golan are the ancestral inheritance of Jews the world over. Appeasing Hitler did not work before WW II. Appeasing modern-day enemies of the Jewish people will work no better. They will only turn the West Bank and East Jerusalem into terrorist bases from which to attack Israel, just as they did with Gaza
David Steinberg   (11.13.09)
10. Golan is ISRAELI land, what does he want to discuss?
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (11.13.09)
11. PLEASE MR. CAN I HAVE MY BALL
BACK ? NO,shove off.
LAWRENCE RAP ARTISTE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.13.09)
12. No, Syria wants the Golan.....
I say F them. If we ever manage to settle our differences with the Palestinians, Assad's stupid ass will be out in the cold. That's what he's afraid of.
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (11.13.09)
13. Return Eli Cohen then we'll talk.
Allan ,   Ft. Lauderdale   (11.13.09)
14. RETURN ELI COHEN ALIVE AND WELL
And then we'll talk.Until then ,do not bother me.
LAWRENCE RAP ARTISTE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.13.09)
15. turkish mediation
Erdogan , gul and dovotgolu have disqualified themselves from mediation. Finshed, over. Olmert used erdogan to try to stay out of jail and also because he has zero judgement as erdogan is a raving ottomon islamic hectored by a screeching arabic wife. Assad, turkey is out of the picture. Furthur,t here are no preconditions, no understandings, no advance start points. Olmert's surrender concessions are in the garabage can where they belong. Only face to face direct talks can be had. You will have to talk to israels. Ohterwise forget it.
marcel   (11.13.09)
16. Assad Is A Duplicitous Liar!
Not a single word that Assad says is believable. He is responsible for rearming Hezbollah and in bed with Iran's Supreme Lia, the Mad Mullah's and the North Koreans. Assad will say whatever he must to regain the Golan which, he fails to understand, now belongs to Israel as a result of his daddy's attacks on Israel. israel would do well to avoid his overtures as they are meaningless.
Bill Foonman ,   Jacksonville USA   (11.13.09)
17. Turkey as intermediary.
Turkey has now become redundant as an intermediary between Israel & Syria for discussing peace talks, after they insulted Israel. They should learn to shut their fat fatimas up, because their brains are up their assholes.
Samir S. Halabi ,   Geneve, Suisse   (11.13.09)
18. We can only hope Bibi is focusing on the main event
However, it's doubtful - so much swirl, sell-out traitors Peres and Barak all over the place, hob-nobbing with the goyim. What a waste of time and energy it all is.
Ruri   (11.14.09)
19. #17 , samir
well said samir. You are proisrael arab and deserve praise for calling erdogan a liar and cuthroat. Well done samir.
alexi   (11.14.09)
20. asssad is full of terroristic crap. Golan is ours. peace?
"just do it" peace 4 peace.
Jae ,   Lynn US   (11.14.09)
21. Sarkozy and Assad
Heads of state? Hard to believe. More like "Mutt and Jeff's excellent adventure."
Sarah B ,   New York / Saviyon   (11.14.09)
22. Syrian identity Syrian land pride honor who cares RIGHT ???
I realize it is one 1 thing to support Sadat to support Egypt for the return of the Sinai Gaza so that the Suez Canal may be re opened because the coaltion navys need it but quite another to have Israel return the Golen Heights and so is Clinton is America Canada England the A C E ACE countrys pulling Syrias leg offering but offering no not the real thing as like with Egypt makes you wonder where the world is going in 2010 even 2020 2050 right RIGHT ??? Thank You... M. S.
M. S. ,   mpls america   (11.14.09)
23. Jews have no biblical claim to Golan & security is feasible
observer   (11.14.09)
24. Peace with Syria more important than many admit but risky
It is important for Israel to reduce the long term threat on it northern border and for US to separate Syria from Iran. I think Israel is willing to give up half of Golan for a true peace but right now restarting talks more important for Israel/US than a deal. Security and water is too critical for Israel to give up more than half of Golan but Hezbollah threat need to be defused soon.
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (11.14.09)
25. #24 Syria and Iran attached at hip
Syria wants the Golan so they can once again place their military atop the Golan and threaten Israel. The US has no power to separate Syria from Iran nor does Syria want to change this relationship. Until the Iranian threat is removed, talks with Syria are pointless.
Cynthia ,   USA   (11.14.09)
26. There is no point talking..It will never happen
What a waste of breath. The only way the Golan will change ownership is by war....wish people would just stop this absolute stupid carry-on.
Australian Guy ,   Australia   (11.14.09)
27. To: No. 26
Do you really think Syria can challenge Israeli successfully in a military action? Here's a news flash: Should Israel ever decide to reclaim its territory (Syria is, after all, an artificial creation), they can commence shortly after breakfast, and be home, victorious, comfortably in time for lunch. In 1982, the Syrian air force decided (foolishly) to take on the Israeli air force. In air-to-air combat, Israel shot down 80 Syrian aircraft without losing a single fighter plane. And roughly half of the Syrian pilots were actually Russian. Nothing's changed since then. The Syrians would be well-advised to stop barking and heel quietly. They would not stand a chance against Israel, and no Russian pilots this time around.
Sarah B ,   New York / Saviyon   (11.14.09)
28. SYRIA WANTS ???.
WITHIN A DECADE SYRIA DOES EXIST ANYMORE. SYRIA WILL FACE DESTRUCTION AND EXTERMINATION AS A NATION AND STATE, IN THE GREAT AND TERRIBLE DAY OF YEHOWAH. Arn-Orao.
Arn-Orao. ,   Sweden-Srbia.   (11.14.09)
29. An Israeli giveaway of the Golan Heights would undermine...
An Israeli giveaway of the Golan Heights would undermine US and Europe interests in the Mideast. It would enable Syria to redeploy a few armored mechanized divisions, from the Golan front, to the Jordanian frontier, in an attempt to destabilize and topple the Hashemite regime in Jordan, which Damascus considers a Syrian province. Such a development could have ripple effects into Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. A Golan giveaway would, also, enable Assad to redeploy a few divisions to the Turkish frontier, agitating anti-Turkish Kurdish terrorism, in his attempt to reclaim Hatay, which used to be Syrian territory, and constitutes a platform for US surveillance and intelligence installations. It would dramatically enhance the strategic maneuverability of pro-Iran, pro-Russia, pro-China and pro-North Korea Syria, which hosts a multitude of international terrorist organizations, which practices hate-education and which has systematically violated agreements concluded with Turkey, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon and Israel.More at : http://xrl.us/bejfwi
