In 1971 I lived in the old student barracks on Mount Scopus, though studying on the Givat Ram campus. Most don't know, or have forgotten, that Mount Scopus was the original site of the Hebrew University. (It's also the site of the ancient Jewish cemeteries overlooking the Old City.) But after the the War of Independence, Mt. Scopus became an island, held by Israel but separated from West Jerusalem by land held by Jordan, and linked to West Jerusalem only by a secret tunnel. Hebrew U thus had no choice but to relocate. After 1967, Scopus was linked to the rest of the city by new roads and that #9 bus that passed through (wait for it) the new neighborhoods of Ramat Eshkol and French Hill. Hebrew U was then able to expand the Scopus campus. If Mitchell expects Israel ever to give up those neighborhoods, returning Scopus back to "island" status, he really has hummus for brains.

It is time for America to cut off all financial aid to Israel. After all what is the point in America paying for a puppet state if that state won't follow orders. There is no law in the world, as in a legally binding law and not just a kangaroo court ruling or a UN vote by the automatic majority, that states that Gilo is Palestinian land. It is built on state land, with no recognized sovereign, in Israeli-administered territory. Legally, Israel has exactly the same rights in that territory as India has in Indian-administered Kashmir, and Pakistan in Pakistan-administered-Kashmir, both of which 'occupy territory' with no recognized sovereign and over which there is a dispute.

It would be good progress if the world were to refer to the Temple Mount as Temple Mount, and not as 'Haram al-Sharif'.

You might want to look up that law sometime. Aid does not give anybody the right to dictate to us.

I really don't care what the Israeli's do or do not do, but a growing majority of my people object to our nation being tied to a country that obviously does not want to have peace with its neighbors. The USA was once at war with the UK, Mexico, Spain, Germany, Italy and Japan. Somehow we managed to find peace. Why can't Israel find it in its heart to try to do the same?
