Israel has the job of guarding the West's oil reserves in the Middle East, doing the distateful work that needs to be done there and generally being the bad guys in the neighbourhood, deflecting most of the local flak that would otherwise be directed at the West. And the price the U.S. pays for having a proxy state in the Middle East is a measley few billion dollars a year -- most of which goes straight into the U.S. arms industry.

The Obama administration and the American President himself has time and again placed wedges between the current American administration and western countries preferring to cuddle and fawn over eastern and African countries while showing disrespect to wester and traditional American allied countries. His knowledge, understanding and appreciation - or lack thereof - of Jewish history, including the history of modern Zionism and the establishment of the state of Israel, and the Jewish people's affinity to the Land of Israel approaches ZERO. He has demonstrated his level of knowledge and understanding more than once, in both speeches and demands of Israel. It is not entirely clear to me that his knowledge of the Arab world is any better incidentally, also demonstrated by his speeches as well as attempts to implement policies that with a bit more understanding he should have known could simply not be implemented in the Arab world. With this background, coupled with ideological concepts derived from various sources, including those of Rev. Wright's, Rev. Jackson and Min. Farakhan, one can't but be critical of the Obama administration and the person who heads it.

I am puzzled by this. The level of hate directed towards Obama by people here and within Israel itself is relentless. Even before Obama got elected he was reviled by some Jews/Israelis. Yet Obama has only embraced Israel, continued to fund Israel, supported the right for Israel to live in peace and security by promoting the ME peace process. Yet at ever turn he is attacked and vilified! Why is this? Why do Jews/Israelis hate Obama so much?!

Why do (some/most) Jews/Israelis and their supporters, here on this website, ‘hate’ so much? Every day there are expressions of vile hate towards a whole host of people. Generally this can be divided into the following groups: 1) Any poster who points out Israel’s moral and social failings. 2) Obama (especially Obama!) and the current American Gov Administration. 3) ‘Self-hating’ Jews (ie: any Jew/Israeli who acknowledges that Israel may have erred in some fashion). 4) All Palestinians/Arabs/Muslims/etc including Palestinian-Israelis living in Israel. 5) Any country/world leader/NGO/human rights Org/person/etc that criticizes Israel for its continued brutal illegal occupation of Gaza and the WB, war crimes, lack of accountability under international law, belligerence/etc/etc. I am still undecided whether it is ‘some’ or ‘most’ of Jews/Israelis and their supporters that ‘hate’ so much. However I can say that the hatred expressed here by rabid, self-ignorance, pro-Israel posters on a daily basis is far in access to what I or anyone one else here can be ever accused of. Everyday I read expressions of blatant hate, racial slurs, bigoted remarks, unfounded allegations, etc from those who claim that ‘Israel’ is snowy-white in the eyes of g-d and not accountable to International Law or Israeli law. I really have to ask, what is this hatred based on?

Woe is the person, who in our day and age bases Israel's existence on a book. Learn from the Holocaust. G-d helps a moving vessel. I, too, used to wonder about the crazy reaction from posters on this and other websites towards anything that is even vaguely critical of Israel. It seemed wierd, the nasty, vitriolic attacks from the (apparently) world-wide pro-Israel brigade directed at any comment that condemns Irsaeli state action as immoral or illegal or aggressive, or is seen to support Israel's "enemies" -- and everywhere a clamouring call to attack Iran. But then, a few weks ago I read this: "Israel's Foreign Ministry, headed by right-wing extremist Avigdor Lieberman, runs a semi-covert program which is openly funded by the government as the "internet fighting team" but which deliberately conceals the affiliation of the "talkbackers". Ilan Shturman coordinates the Ministry effort, which is run out of the Hasbara Department, "hasbara" being a Hebrew word that is normally translated as propaganda. Shturman's young and enthusiastic employees work from a prepared script of official Israeli government positions. I guess I am feeling kinda threatened by Shturman's cohort of blathering, semi-ignorant "internet fighters". But that's probably because there's a feeling of something sinister about it all. Yep, feeling slightly threatened [as threatened as I feel about the mullahs in Iran suddenly breaking out of Persia and imposing their crazy regime on the whole world -- as Israel constantly tells is about to happen]. But mostly I just feel amused, and a bit curious, too, about why the state of Israel, and pro-Israeli groups such as Give Israel Your United Support, feel they need to employ these sort of underhand-tainted tactics. Seems to me that Israel and it's collective supporters are like some sort of self-centered, angst-ridden teenager -- unable to handle personal criticism, anxious to be liked by everyone and loudly demanding respect rather than trying to earn it, defiant and disrespectful, and desperately wanting to be treated like an adult even while they act like a bratty child. Thanks for the info k1w1, very interesting. I guess this is another Israeli project to ‘win hearts and minds’ and improve Israel’s battered and tarnished image. A bit like the ‘Megaphone’ project isn’t it? I think it is safe to say that none of the 50,000 activists are here on this website as the current rabid pro-Israel supporters are useless and wouldn’t be employed by anyone to ‘improve’ Israel’s image as clearly their bigoted comments only act to further tarnish Israel. Interesting to note that Israel has to resort to clandestine propaganda projects like these to try and ‘improve’ Israel’s image.

All the available evidence demonstrates Obama is very hostile to Israel, particularly in his actions. It further demonstrates Obama would be even more hostile to Israel if it weren't for the largely pro-Israel sentiments of Congress and Americas in general. Obama bends over backwards to show submission to Israel's enemies while treating Israeli leaders, like Bibi, with utter disrespect. The disgraceful "shoe" incident is only one illustrative example. Obama's demands for settlement freezes are a direct unilateral scrubbing of Israel's understanding with the Bush administration and previous administrations. The fact that Obama sometimes mouths politically obligatory words of support for Israel does not nullify his almost completely hostile actions.
