1. Religious freedom?
Gary Glaser ,   Hutchinson, MN, USA   (12.05.09)
So,does this mean Iran is actually going to respect the rights of the Baha's and let them pursue their educational goals and hold their meetings? Only when that happens can we really believe their talk about respecting religious rights.
2. Now Iran intends to bully the entire world
zionist forever   (12.05.09)
Switzerland is an independent democracy and whatever the rest of the world thinks of the result Swiss government included they gave the people the right to choose and the majority chose in favour. Iran is now trying to bully Switzerland probably in the form of terror or fatwahs against swiss politicians. it also doesn't help that Switzerland is already in range of Iranian missiles which one day could be armed with nuclear warheads.
3. About Iran...
Robert Rowley ,   Tucson, U.S.A.   (12.05.09)
Screw the government of Iran!
4. Hypocritical Iran
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.05.09)
"Mottaki said last week’s referendum would 'damage Switzerland’s image as a pioneer of respecting human rights among Muslims’ public opinion.” That's rich, coming from Iran, a country whose leadership does not know the meaning of "respect" or of "human rights." "'Values such as tolerance, dialogue and respecting others’ religions should never be put to referendum,' he argued, warning Switzerland of the 'consequences' of anti-Islamic acts, IRNA reported." That's even richer. Tolerance, dialogue and respect for the religion of others. Let's take that up with the Ba'hai and the Zoroastrians. See what they think of Iran's views on tolerance, dialogue and respect for other religions. If all this rhetoric weren't so intensely hypocritical coming, as it does, from one of the most intolerant and ruthless regime on earth, it would be downright funny. But there is nothing funny about the Islamofascist regime in Iran. Nothing funny at all.
5. The Swiss are sick to death of the behavior of
(12.05.09)
the immigrant Muslim populations' behavior. The ban is simply a manifestation of that disgust.
6. minarets
yort ,   usa   (12.05.09)
IRAN is a joke i would not listen to them for one second. THEY ARE STUPID and dont know the first thing about human rights. once iran gers things right then they can start telling the world what they think untill then a muzzle should be put on achmed ablamineblab
7. What,exactly is the problem?
Malone ,   Hfx   (12.05.09)
They didn't ban the mosques, the houses of prayer. People don't pray in a minaret. The minaret was used back in the day to call worshippers to prayer, now these days, with technology, they're not even really needed. It's a symbol of Islam, and that's probably what's gotten the arabs all upset, any excuse to riot, protest, burn flags and threaten will do.
8. Love The Irony...
Earnest Lee Beauvine ,   Mt. Pleasant, Texas   (12.05.09)
The Iranian FM, of all people, talking about "tolerance" and "democracy and human rights"...
9. Any yet, some attempt to avoid seeing Muslim agression as
Avihu   (12.05.09)
a clash of Islamism with liberal-democracy. It is time we take our blinders off our faces!!!
10. Switz must watch out asIran missiles will be pointed at them
Alan ,   SA   (12.05.09)
Europeans Democratic Rights dont count anything for the advancing Eurabian Liberation Forces. If Iran or othe Eastern States dont like way any country votes-they will take appropriate action . Khaddafi also comdemned this vote . Just keep quiet and let the advance of the baby buggies(prams) take its toll .
11. Tell that to Saudi Arabia....
BJ ,   Switzerland   (12.05.09)
and other muslim states where they execute you if your a practicing non-muslim.
12. In Iran Christians are executed...
Carsten Schmidt ,   Germany   (12.05.09)
...just for being Christians and this criminal Mottaki dares to talk about "tolerance, dialogue and respecting others’ religions"? Let's hope Calmy-Rey wasn't to coward to teach him about human rights...
13. "tolerance, dialogue and respecting others’ religions"???
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (12.05.09)
iran is concerned about this? oh, i see. iran wants "tolerance, dialogue and respecting others’ religions" ONLY when it comes to islam. we sometimes forget that the iranian worldview is that the universe revolves around some empire they had (and forever lost) a long, long time ago. we got news for you, iran: you have been a backwards, barbaric basket state for a long time and you keep earning that reputation each day you say dumb things like this.
14. Religious tolerance...
Rina   (12.05.09)
....screaming over the heads of others? Why do people have to be reminded to pray? This should come naturally from having a personal relationship with whomever man believes in. If no personal relationship, please think again.
15. Iran warns Switzerland
Johan ,   South Africa   (12.05.09)
This is now tipical of why the swiss should not change at all. muslims think that they are the only one in the world and if some one is saying or doing any thing that they don't like they all ways threaten them what a lot of bull shite their is other people in this world that also like to live there own lives and it is time you start the respect others to . look at what you are doing to your own people killing them without remorse and just go on living as if nothing is wrong. and what do you say when you read your koran or what ever you refer to it does it tell you to kill indiscremitly or does it tell you to have compasion wake up and start to live a normal life where you respect others in the world This is after all Switzerland which is the home of the swiss peple and if you don't like the way they live go home to where ever you come from ans see if living home is so much better
16. Such gall
Fasz Feju ,   Los Angeles   (12.05.09)
Iran - isn't that the place where they mutilate and rape political prisoners? Isn't that the tolerant culture that hangs teenagers and gays from cranes? I thought so. And those things don't bother them, but the Swiss minaret ban does? ROTFLMAO! Savages, apes.
17. this minaret business
andrew ,   US   (12.05.09)
when will we hear of all of the immigrants to iran and the like, and their freedom to build cathedrals and temples? mosques are a target for other muslims to plant car bombs anyhow.
18. There's no hypocrisy here
Gabriel ,   Brazil   (12.05.09)
Iran is against all type of referendum, be it about religious freedom or who's to be the next president...
19. Minaret Ban
Fred Lacuna ,   Clifton,Va USA   (12.05.09)
Iran and other Moslim countries has the nerve to complain. They have persecuted Christians in their own countries.I ssupport Switzerland's move.Theirs has been a Christian country for centuries,The Moslems came. They were not invited,They have the right to leave and move to an Islamic country. As a Christian,I am sick and tired of worrying if I have offended them when they behave in Lawless fashion. We Christians should get United agints these Islamic threats.
20. irony
Lisa   (12.05.09)
this is really rich: exactly the countries who have no idea what democracy and freedom is- are shooting their mouths off over this ban. Gadhaffi- the mad dictator from Libia whose son is a psychopath- Iran. Pres who is the new Hitler and probably THE Psycho in the world today-. Need we talk about the rights and freedom of Iranian people? About the rights and freedom of muslim women? About Israel's right to exist? How dare they question a legal and democratic procedure in a free Western country?- How dare they threaten Switzerland and the Swiss people?
21. To all you Swiss I will ask you this?
vicky ,   Ashkelon Israel   (12.05.09)
DOES IRAN PRACTICE WHAT THEY ARE PREACHING?????????? They killed, Bahais, Christians, and Jews, desecrated their churches and temples, and demand you live as they do. Is that what you want in your country? If so then I feel sorry for you.
22. Iran is an International Joke
linksman ,   mill valley USA   (12.05.09)
Iran is criticizing another country over human rights violations? What a joke, as is the entire military-based leadership of Iran. I pray the resistance movements within Iran can topple the ignorant, uneducated, unintelligent morons who are currently running the country and strangling its people to death. Unfortunately, I fear that the only way to ultimately deal with the insects running the country is to exterminate them with forceful measures. It's the only thing that simple minded idiots like the Iranian leadership understand. Sooner rather than later, Israel is going to take them out. May God be with you, Israel.
23. What the warnings show
Ana ,   Spain   (12.05.09)
Iran is interested in the expansion of Islam in Europe. It sure is not for the good of the Europeans. Not only are the Swiss right but also fall short of what must be done. The Iranian government’s support for freedom in another country is funny. Is Iran an example of freedom, by any chance?
24. tell that to the Muslim world you are now leading Iran
Jae ,   Lynn US   (12.05.09)
How many Muslim countries dont allow Jews to be citizens, buy property, or even visit? How many Muslim countries allow freedom of speech? How many are state run? How many dont have open elections? How many are run by dictators, despots, and mullahs? How many arm or train or finance terrorist organizations (terror defined as strategy that focuses on terrorisizing and murdering civilians)? How many force women to wear a large blanket like clothing with some allowing for visible eye slats and others not allowing for it? How many Muslim nations decry terrorism? How many people think islam would like to rule the world by birthrate or by force?
25. Minarets?
edward daCosta ,   Canada   (12.05.09)
Oh how it amuses me to hear these Moslem HYPOCRITES speaking of tolerance, and freedom of religion. They want everybody in the non-moslem world to bend back to acommodate them and their religious philosophies. But they put a knife to the throat of Christians and and Jews if caught with the Bible.
26. Read between the lines
Jacob Erickson ,   Holon, Israel   (12.05.09)
You can see from the article that the new law in switzerland is against the building of NEW minarets. I assume with Islam's expansion into all of Europe that there are already a whole heck of a lot of them. SO.... I think it's pretty fair that the Swiss government doesn't want a lot of religious icons sticking up all over the place. They do have a history of neutrality and all that stuff, so to have them start looking like a country a country with any predominant religion wouldn't be what they want.
27. Iran threatens Switzerland
Mohammed ,   France   (12.05.09)
This is part of a calculated plan by Iran's rulers to so legitimize themselves in the eyes of the Muslim world that they are not only able to develop nuclear weapons but to credibly threaten to use, if not actually use, them. Only when Muslims worldwide realize that Iran is actually undercutting them and undoing years of progress will the situation in Iran change.
28. Minorets
D Baker ,   Taunton, Somerset   (12.05.09)
I am glad to see the Iranian Minister Manouchehr Mottaki talk of democracy and human rights. Does that mean that visiting women do not now have to wear a headscarf when visting his country?
29. monarts
Art Schwartz ,   IRVINE, CA.   (12.05.09)
Isn't it interesting how I would be killed for not capitulating to islam and islam is now complaing about being discriminated against. Lets have 3 cheers for the swiss on this issue. HIP HIP HURRAY, HIP HIP HURRAY HIP HIP HURRAY
30. Irans position on Religious Freedom
vicmic83 ,   USA   (12.05.09)
Iran is critical of Switzerlands banning of minarets. Let's see a few Catholic churches with Crosses built in Iran, or Jewish Synagogs. How about a Gay Imam. The world is afraid to say; Islam is offensive to us.
