1. No big deal
(12.07.09)
Anyone who was not invited can just walk in. They don't check names at the door. But I don't know why anyone would want to celebrate Chanukah with Barack Hussein Antiochus...
2. Get over it !
Avi ,   Israel   (12.07.09)
Well unlike the ultra orthadox who think money grows on secular trees, and who demand more without contributing a thing, some of us however ive in reality! Ever heard of cut backs before? President Obama is setting an example to us all in these difficult times.
3. Is this is the 1st White House Party he's cut down on?
rebecca ,   Modiin   (12.07.09)
If so then it is a big deal. He's been spending tons of money and I've not heard him cut back on anything else. But the liberal Jews of America will make excuses for him.
4. ALL such things are symbolic and part of the whole
Mea   (12.07.09)
OBAMA OUT IN 2012!
5. Cold to the Jews
Yehudi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.07.09)
Obama is very cold and indifferent to the Jewish People. He was raised as a Muslim and those instincts are still with him. I suspect that deep in his heart he hates Jews.
6. #3 Hardly cutting back
Cynthia ,   USA   (12.07.09)
The Obama's have planned 28 Christmas events with a guest list of 50,000 people.
7. Yawn! Who cares what the goyim in Ah!merica do?!
(12.07.09)
Ah!merican Jews need to get over themselves and their mighty power and realize that Ah!merica is NOT Israel! Make aliyah and stop whining!
8. Why is Tevi Troy speaking for Israel
Talula ,   Israel   (12.07.09)
American Jews maybe pissed at the downsizing of the party - but do most of us in Israel really care that much? I don't!
9. Tevi Troy
Erez ,   Neve Daniel, Israel   (12.07.09)
I think Tevi Troy was the Jewish liaison for George Bush, not Obama.
10. Step in right direction IF he also slashes Xmas 2 same level
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (12.07.09)
In the U.S. separation of religion and state is mandated by the Constitution. That's been ignored in the case of Christianity in the public arena, often in the case of Khanukkah in the public arena and, increasingly, in the case of Islam in the public arena. There is plenty of private property in the U.S. and, in the U.S. (!), this is where ALL religions belong. Inserting them into the public arena imposes it on citizens involuntarily--violating their rights to freedom FROM it. It would be far better if the Pres. "made the rounds" to participate equally in the different celebrations in their proper respective PRIVATE observances (in churches, synagogues, mosques, etc. or on their private grounds)--not on public, tax-paid, property. Jews' image would improve (if only slightly, given negative biases) by standing up for no-exceptions (including Khanukah) Constitutional principle of separation of religion and government. No exceptions would have the greatest effect on the Christian false assumption that the U.S. was found to be a "Judeo-Christian" nation. First of all, "Judeo-Christian" is an oxymoron by means of which Christians arrogantly and patronizingly presume--yet again--their supersession and displacement of Judaism, insinuating that "Judeo" is now incorporated into Christianity. Certainly, it is never used by Christians to mean legitimate Judaism: Torah that prohibits Christianity or belief in their man-god. Nor is it ever even used to acknowledge legitimate Judaism, which invalidates Christianity by its very existence. In fact, "Judeo-Christian" literally means "Torah-antinomianism," the Hellenist term for anti-Torah; in other words, "Judeo-Christian" means "Torah-anti-Torah"; oxymoronic presumptuous gibberish. The U.S. is not now, nor has it ever been self-DEFINED by the Declaration of Independence or Constitution, as a Christian nation, much less "Judeo-Christian." Rather, it is DEFINED as a nation where freedom of--or from--religion is SUPPOSED to be guaranteed. Christians, who have assumed their predominance implies a right to claim the public square are as anti-American as those, if there are any, who wish to eliminate Christianity of Xmas from American society. In the U.S., just keep religion--ALL religions equally--in the private arena and out of government and the public square. 11. US is a Christian Coutry, get used to it
American Citizen ,   USA   (12.07.09)
Less that 2% of Americans are Jewish, so we should spend less than 2% of what we spend on Christian celebrations on a minor Jewish holiday at best. How much does Israel spend on celebrating Christian holidays each year. echo echo echo!!!!!
12. #2 you amaze me , you self hater, i
nextweek ,   israel   (12.07.09)
came across a similar talkbacker and i can't believe the ordasity you have when speaking of your own kind. and with a name as yours , you would do good to learn from your forfathers especially Avraham. happy hanuka G-d bless Gilad
13. personally i don't see it as a good thing
now ,   israel   (12.07.09)
when a muslim or any non jew lights any candle on hanukka, it is a mitzva for the jews , they can have their cut down "hanukka" party with little cock-tails and umbrellas . it wont have the blessing of the G-d of Avraham. G-d bless Gilad
14. #11 you sound hopefull ..
yesterday ,   israel   (12.07.09)

15. shameless Halloween Party sums up Obama
(12.07.09)
16. #11 For me I think we Jews dont need any non Jews celebratin
Alan ,   SA   (12.07.09)
our festivals or our tragedies. Its often just a political thing! Tell me why should Obama have the Passover meal or the minor festival u know such a lot about! So in a backhanded way I agree with you .
17. #11 Not according to Obama
Ben Israel ,   Kiryat Arba   (12.07.09)
He said America is NO LONGER a Christian country it is the world's largest Islamic country, so eat that with tehina son
18. The best enemy we can have is one who shows his true face
Moish ,   Jerusalem   (12.07.09)
19. Same as Passover
Jackie ,   Florida   (12.07.09)
How can any Muslim celebrate a Jewish holiday such as Chanukah which marks the rededication of the Temple and the rebirth of true Judaism! It's the same as Obama's seder. I am sure he did not end it with singing "Next Year in Jerusalem" unless he said it it Arabic, the language of the Quoran
20. With friends like Obama and Rahm Emanuel who needs enemies?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (12.07.09)
The writing on the wall is clear. Obama has changed US policy toward Israel and, it appears, to Jewish Americans. The writing is so clear that the Jews of America should really consider come home to their country before the 1930's rears its head again!
21. Hanukkah at the White House?
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (12.07.09)
There is a simple solution to this situation: Jews should simply, but very graciously, decline the invitation. The silence would be deafening, and convey more than all the written or spoken comments put together.
22. 2%
Ilana   (12.07.09)
Jews may be two percent, but how about if we now take percentages of accomplishments made in all fields in the U.S.and see what that did for the U.S. Then we can also compare this percentagewise to other religions and their accomplishments. Don't forget, Jesus was a Jew.
23. He has Ramadan to celebrate
Of course he cuts it ,   IL   (12.07.09)
24. Jewish Festivals for Jews only to celebrate
Rland Seener ,   London England   (12.07.09)
25. Hanukah party
Tevi Troy ,   Washington, USA   (12.07.09)
I read your article with interest, but need to point out some errors: 1. I am not Obama's liaison to the Jewish community, but I was President Bush's. 2. I did not "slam" the decision to reduce the party's size, but questioned whether it would be seen in the context of other problems Obama is having with the Jewish community. 3. Most importantly, I did not claim that known critics of Israel would be invited, as I have no idea who will be invited.
26. Do us a favor
Ben ,   Gush Etzion   (12.07.09)
don't make any Chanulka party in the White House, Chanuka is not for shkotzim, especially not for closet muslims who attended reverend Wright's Trinity Church and hob-nobbed with Farrakhan.
27. Obammamma is an anti-Jew guy at heart
Bob ,   Mechanicsburg USA   (12.07.09)
Let's see how many Muslims he invites to the White House now. This guy is an anti-Jew from way back. His actions are quite obvious. I am ashamed to be an American citizen at this time.
28. Amen!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.07.09)
This president's grandmother just returned from hajj. Frankly, for him to light a Chanukah candle is a gross insult to the Jewish people. Better (and more truthfully) for him to dispense with that, and tout the questionable achievements of his grandmother -- which is to say, the Islamic haj). Frankly, this Moslem American president should stick to his proclivities. His future, after all, is to come down in history as the worst American president ever. As salaam aleikum, Hussein Obama. High time you returned to your chosen profession as a neighborhood agitator. You are not qualified for anything else. You and I attended Harvard Law School at the same time. I know all about your academic shortcomings, which are too numerous to name. Keep on keeping on -- failure. You are a most poor excuse for an American.
29. Hanukkah
JUDAH MACCABBI ,   JERUSALEM ISRAEL   (12.07.09)
cut back Hanukkah party all together we do not need the Obamas to give us a CANUKKAH PARTY THE PARTY WILL BE WHEN OBAMA WILL BE OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE
30. Obama's inauguration cost the US taxpayers 120 million
Rivkah   (12.07.09)
dollars compared to Bush's 40 million dollar inaugurations. Obama is uping the troops in Afganistan even though the US cannot afford to be a world policeman anymore and gasoline there costs $400. a gallon! to get it to the troops there. But he wants to save money on a Hannukah celebration but cutting the party in half. He saves pennies and throws away millions and billions. Send him a straight jacket and a one way ticket to a nut house.
