1. Torah has kept Israel, more than Israel has kept Torah
eddie ,   london UK   (12.08.09)
How strange of Meretz to accuse of "disloyalty" to State, when it was his colleague Beillin, who betrayed the state, and went behind rabin's back, and made a deal with State enemy #1, and brougth about a murderous campaign called Oslo, which continues to erode and destroy the state of israel.
2. Obviously Ne`eman Is Correct
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (12.08.09)
Jewish state. Jewish law. There`s no excuse to use foreign law and foreign values in the Jewish state. PS Jewish law isn't at all like the Taliban or Islamic law. Go learn and see for yourselves.
3. everything good that is today accepted by all came fromTorah
Randi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.08.09)
Justice, democracy, treating the weaker members of society with kindness, sexual prohibitions against incest and beatilaity, it's all from the Torah. Before the Jews brought the ethics taught in the Torah to the world, there were no such "enlightened" societies. Instead of being ashamed, we should remeber where our decency cmes from as well as remind the rest of the world.
4. reply Yishai Kohen # 2 Religious coercion
AVI ,   Israel   (12.08.09)
Sorry but i beg to differ, I am jewish although for me being jewish may mean eating apple cake in Rosh Ha Shana, . Point being you cannot force religious law on non belivers. I will barbeQ on Shabbat, i will drive my car when ever i like, i will eat what i want when i want and i will marry who ever i want. We will never accept such laws. Israel is a democratic country and will not become a jewish version of Iran. Will his royal holliness Ayatolla Ovadia Yusuf be supporting the death penalty for women accused by men of having an affair? will we be stoing peopls in the village square ? If its takes a civil war then so be it, because i will fight with every last breath in my body for freedom and democracy.
5. It's not a matter of talibansation,it's a matter of justice!
Keren ,   IL-BR   (12.08.09)
Don't compare Taliban with Israel because one doesn't have nothing to do with the other. These "Jews"of ours are just making mockery and laughing at us!
6. Horrid Little Man
Conceit: G-d's gift ,   to little men   (12.08.09)
I worked for him once - he is nothing but a little man with an over compensating ego who gets off and makes himself feel "taller" by putting down those around him and attempting to make them feel worthless. I looked for another job very quickly once I realised what his personality is like.
7. WRONG!!
Debbie ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.08.09)
Hey! It's called JUDAIZATION. The Taliban got it from us back when we knew who we were and knew how to be real Jews!!
8. torah of today not the same as before
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (12.08.09)
if israel were to adopt rabbinical torah as the law of the land, we'd see a replay of the kingdom dividing and ultimately disintegrating as we saw in the tanakh. obviously i don't want to see that, but lessons learned aren't exactly a strength when it comes to israel.
9. Neeman
chuck ,   The Holy Land   (12.08.09)
One must take note that the remarks attacking Neeman were those of Meretz and Tzipi Livni. To them the mantra of democracy to be mimmicked is the USA and they see their roots of Judaism as archaic. My assumption is they have no awareness of their heritage, but are overwhelmed with sinister spite and horrific hatred. How weird and bazzarre they must be. Should we call in the "men in the white coats"?
10. AVI, start looking for a new country
Debbie ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.08.09)
There is no room in Eretz Yisrael for apostasy. Look in the mirror. You have perfectly described yourself as an apostate Jew. You want free choice to make your life a complete descration of G-d's name, do it anyplace but here. I won't beg you to do teshuva. You are a rebel and the only reason you are in Israel is to spread your rebellion and shake your fist in G-d's face. You should be shaking in your boots, but you obviously have no yirat Shamayim. This has to be remedied before we are all thrown out of a land that cannot tolerate such actions. It's you or me, Avi and it ain't gonna be me.
11. Don't worry Avi
Shalom Hartman   (12.08.09)
Torah law is nothing even akin to taliban-ism. Torah law in the courts would see true human values at their best, lack of bribery and corruption and fair play. It is not about stoning you for driving on Shabbat.
12. AVI: It's A Shame That You Are Ignorant About Jewish Law
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (12.08.09)
The government forces it' laws on people. That's why we drive 80 km/hr and not 180. That's why we pay taxes. That's why I do miluim. Jewish law isn't like Iran. As everyone who knows about Jewish law can tell you, to carry out capital punishment is for the most part impossible, and even according to the Gemara, any court that did so twice within SEVENTY YEARS was considered a "killer court", and that wasn't meant as a compliment. If there will be a civil war, G-d forbid, it will be because of you extreme leftist secularists, who constantly talk about it. It definitely won't be started by us. I personally take the long-view: The Jewish people will be ruled by Jewish law as we should be, and it will happen democratically. Demography and time will ensure that.
13. #10 Debbie and heres some advice for you
Avi ,   israel   (12.08.09)
First of all i do not belive in God, i guess thats my choice as a human being or will that be compulory from now on? You will not force religious law on non belivers, the majoity of this country is secular and thats a fact so i would suggest you deal with the reallity not the fantasy. I think Goldy locks and the 3 bears is more creditable than that religious mumbo jumbo. Oh trust me darling it will be you not me ! i belive you know where the airport is
14. #12 Yishai Kohen in reply
Avi ,   Israel   (12.08.09)
Well good to hear that you pay your taxes and serve in the army , well done. but sorry i do not belive in God and that is my choice and i do not live by the rules of the Torah and thankyou but i was once religious. My secular grandparents were considerd jewish enough to be killed by the Nazis so we are clear on that one. i wish you well, live your life in the way you wish but do not force religious rules on secular people as we will fight with all our might to resist . Just take a look at Shas do we really want corrupt people like that inciting hatred and rulling our lives? People who use religion as a means of gaining political power and money?
15. Torah Law
Pauline ,   israel   (12.08.09)
I'll believe in Torah Law when and ONLY when the rabbinate puts a complete end to husbands being able to withhold a gett as a form of revenge. Until then, those that say Torah Law is perfect and just and fair maybe correct, but - the men that enforce it certainly are NOT.
16. Such fools!
Chaim ,   Netanya   (12.08.09)
And where do you leftists think all laws of the world are derived from? The Magna Carta is based on Torah, Hamurabi is based on the Universal Laws given by Hashem to Adam. What is your problem, are you afraid of Morality and true Justice?
17. Avi, what exactly makes you Jewish?
Shalom   (12.08.09)
If you do not keep the Torah and eat pig on Yom Kippur and drive on Shabbat, what makes you Jewish? Oh, it is because your mother was a Jew, that's why you are automatically a Jew. However this will end with you since the Torah obviously means nothing to you and you will intermarry and produce non-Jewish offspring.
18. Eddie, Yishai, Debby, I couldn't have said it better.
Shalom   (12.08.09)
19. #17 Shalom and whos a jew
Avi ,   Israel   (12.08.09)
How appropriate i was wondering who was going to be the first to asking that rascist question. However seing as you ask, well apparently the Nazi party decided my gandparents were jewish enough to be murdered. Secondly it is a persons basic human right to decide what he or she belives on does not belive. Not everyone needs a religious guide book to prevent them from stealing, murdering and going off the rails, which apparently you do. i would gladly denounce being a jew tommorow where can i sign? You can call me a Buddah for all i care as you dont need to lable everyone by religious affiliation thankyou very much.

21. If he is a sample of our Ministers, we're in trouble
Jojo ,   Prt Wash NY   (12.08.09)
Mister Justice Minister Ne'eman. Why don't you try to restore your scalp to it's past Glory.--- maybe with the few extra strands will suffice to cover your brains from the fierce Israeli sun; and who knows, cohesion and clarity might return to what it was once--- was it ?......!
22. Torah peace
Marcel ,   Florida   (12.08.09)
For 16 plus years Israel has been following the agenda of the world for peace to no avail. And they keep going down the same failed path as they attack and rail against the truth. The stupid people of Israel think they will have peace without Torah or the Creator. They are the ones the missiles of Hizbollah,Hamas and Iran are aimed at.
23. No need for torah laws
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.08.09)
to abstain from murdering , to respect our parents , to not steal . You see , even "religious" people , who should observe those laws , don't do it always . So why should torah laws replace the State ones ?
24. yishay , 12
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.08.09)
civil war not caused by you ? who is demonstrrating violently every Shabbat ? Is'nt that a kind of civil war ? If you will become the majority , who will feed ans defend you ? Those yeshiva bachourim who don't work or serve ? your god who could not protect "his" people , or who did'nt want , or simply , because there is no such thing as your god ?
25. Laura Schlessinger
Ariel ,   São Paulo - Brazil   (12.08.09)
Laura Schlessinger is a US radio personality who dispenses advice to people who call in to her radio show. Recently, she said that as an observant Orthodox Jew, she holds that homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned in any circumstance. The following is an open letter to Dr. Laura penned by a US resident, which was posted on the Internet. Dear Dr. Laura: Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to follow them. a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odour for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them? b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev. 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense. d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians? e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself? f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? g) Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here? h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27. How should they die? i) I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev. 24:10-16) Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14) I do look forward to your enlightenment regarding the questions that puzzle me. Then I shall pass them along to others who may appreciate your moral leadership. Sincerely.
26. 25. Ignorance is not your best look
Alan ,   NYC USA   (12.08.09)
All the things you cite are taken out of context. If a barbarian see a man standing over you with various knives and cutting into your heart, he would not realize hes in something called the cardiac trauma unit. So too your ignorance on all the above. Some of what you write is not accurate, most of it is not ruled that way, and all of it is taken out of context. Canaanites Pharoahs Egypt, Democracy's Greece , Republian Rome) , surrounding it burned daughters at the stake for a good harvest, had women raped repeatedly by all men entering idolatrous temples, incest, beastiality, homosexuality. The days of uber tyrants, emperors, brutality, killing humans "for sport", etc yet you worship these cultures of greece & rome. obviosly some aspects you dont.
27. Oslo
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (12.08.09)
Eddie ! Oslo-Rabin, is the best thing that happened to Israel, the murder of Rabin is the best thing that happened to Arafat-Hamas,had Rabin been alive today and Oslo continued, there would have been peace by now between Israel and the Arabs, the Erev Rabanin who issued a Fatwa (Rodef-Nirdaf) shot the settlers in the foot,no prime minister helped the settlers as much as Rabin did.The shrots haamaleki, under the cover of the Fatwa killed Rabin for personal reasons, according to the N.Y.times the Shrots,(creep) was dating a girl and her parents opposed the match,so,the girl broke up with him, people who knew him said, they noticed a big change in the murderer after the break up,this happens a lot in history,Gavrilo Princhip a poor and sick Serb decided to do a service to the serbs by killing crown prince Ferdinand of Austria, instead he started 2 ww that caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of serbs, his own people, the shrots haamaleki s.r.y.(let his name rot)caused irreparable damage to Israel.Eddi ! by the end of the day,do you believe that the settlers will get more land or less land, had Rabin been alive and Oslo continued ?.
