1. Fire Him
Jerry ,   Eilat, Israel   (12.13.09)
The rabbi is not an officer in the IDF and has no right to order his students to disobey orders. That taxes support this rabbi and students is almost as bad and sinful as paying the protesters for their insubordination.
2. Iran
The Last Zionist ,   Eilat   (12.13.09)
If we don't nip this now, we will soon look like Iran.
3. Remove Barak
Marcel ,   Florida   (12.13.09)
The loser ,retreat and surrender Defenseless Minister is the one that made Hezbollah's rise possible by running away from South Lebanon in the middle of the night. This loser also failed to defeat Hamas last January to please his pimps in Washington. It's time to replace these agents of foreign powers and their fake peace schemes with Israeli's who will serve God and the people of Israel in that order FIRST.
4. Good for Barak! About time!
Oren ,   Or Yehuda   (12.13.09)
First time he has done anything! We should also stop paying money to Hesder yeshivot
5. Maybe it's time
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim,   (12.13.09)
B"H Maybe it's time to have Rabbi Melamed as Defense Minister. We would certainly have a Jewish army that is motivated to fight the enemies of the Jewish people and win our wars, instead of the goyshe army of Barak that is bent on fighting the Jews. How much more anti-Semitic Barak has to be for the Jewish nation to see what he is and show him the way out? Isn't it obvious enough now, as it is, that he is against the Jewish people and anything Jewish? We must say a firm NO to use the IDF for the criminal deportation of Jews from any parts of the Land of Israel.
6. Never thought that...
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.13.09)
Never thought that I would say this: Kol HaKavod to Ehud Barak! About time, too.
7. #3
Good ol' Addle ,   Toronto   (12.13.09)
"The loser ,retreat and surrender Defenseless Minister is the one that made Hezbollah's rise possible by running away from South Lebanon" No. Hezbollah raised because of Israel's occupation of Lebanon (starting in 1982). "This loser also failed to defeat Hamas last January to please his pimps in Washington. " Too many violations of international law in the last war for Israel to keep fighting in Gaza. It was best they pulled out before more pressure built on them. "It's time to replace these agents of foreign powers and their fake peace schemes with Israeli's who will serve God and the people of Israel in that order FIRST." Yeah, you would love Israel to be a Theocracy. People like you are whats tarnishing the image of Israel by mixing politics and religion together. An unhealthy combination that makes things worse then it already is.
8. Marcel the mouth makes Sarah B. look good...
BBSNews ,   Charlotte, NC   (12.13.09)
...and that is saying something. Notice that "Marcel" is comfortably ensconced in Florida where he is perfectly safe to advocate that Israel destroy itself. The Marcels and others of its ilk are a primary threat to the future of Israel. They agitate against the rule of law, they perpetuate negative stereotypes of Israel in the world, in short they are not your friends folks. Unless you believe that Israel should follow in Iran's footsteps, and that is exactly what Marcel and his cronies advocate.
9. Rabbi Melamed's courage
Abba ,   Modi'in, Israel   (12.13.09)
If the remaining Hesder rabbis found the courage to follow Rabbi Melamed's example, Barak wouldn't have an army worth deploying.
10. Marcel in florida
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.13.09)
Israelis serve the STATE first of all , those who serve god in first place sit in florida and can stay there . Barak has done the right thing , the army should obey in a democratic country .
11. Barak will come running on all 4s to get these boys back
Shalom   (12.13.09)
What the Hesder Yeshiva boys did, the chilonim would never be able to. Does Barak expect to win a war with only chilonim??
12. Join Habracha Yeshiva,to get out of Army ?
Roland Seener ,   London England   (12.13.09)
13. One day court will be held in Jerusalem...
Steve   (12.13.09)
One day, testimony will be given and witnesses will be called. It will not be Rabbi Melamed who will stand before the judges; not if he stands strong. It will be the members of this government who seek to divide our land, contrary to our eternal covenant. These men and women will stand before their accusers.

Steve   (12.13.09)
If Marcel is not a Jew, why should it matter where he lives? If he is a Jew, why should it matter to you?
15. Old antisemitism, and new.
eddie ,   london UK   (12.13.09)
the old european antisemitism was something like this: Jews cannot work in the professions, so they are forced to become moneylenders. When finances get tough, then the Jews can be hated for being moneylenders. Today, relgious Jews are taunted and hated for not serving in the army. So the Hesder yeshivas produce the finest and most highly motivated soldiers. When the religious soldiers become CO's - they object to givernemnt policy, just like some objected to fight in Vietnam - the secular givernemnt again finds reason to demonise them. Nothing changes, really.
16. Barak:"I'm the Mighty G-d of the army; its my authority to
observer   (12.13.09)
excommunicate any disobedient low-rank prophet"
17. Barak...
eliezer ,   jerusalem   (12.13.09)
Needless to say that Barak is not equipped to deal with dissension. If the hesder group holds together, it may bring Barak to his knees. Everyone knows that these are some of the finest boys in the army and make the best citizens of Israel. If they stand firm against this tyrant, they will win. People like Barak who like to give ultimatums to others with out understanding the other's position have been ruining this country. Let Barak take his buddy Bibi and go live in the USA. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
18. Barak
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (12.13.09)
Barak has never done anything but fail. Barak was responsible for the errors that led to the IDF's defeat at Sultan Yakoub and capture of soldiers who are still missing. Barak was the mastermind of the 1993 operation that was based on artillery attacks on innocent Lebanese civilians. Barak betrayed the SLA, leading to the murder of innocent women and children and the takeover of Lebanon by Hezbolla. Barak allowed IDF soldier Madhat Yussuf to die for his political gain. Barak's failure led to the start of the Second Intifada with thousands of death and including Barak's shooting of 12 Israeli citizens. Barak not only failed to achieve anything in the Cast Lead operation, he is branded a war criminal by Goldstone, leading to Israel's international isolation.. Now to this dishonorable career of death and destruction, Barak adds another idiotic decision. Sadly, the only one to blame is Netanyahu who lets this incompetent have power.
19. One more stupid mistake for Israel's Mr. Bean
Max ,   Hertzeliah   (12.13.09)
This decision will boomerang and hit him in his smirking face. These Hesder soldiers were Israel's elite, they have two paths before them, either they can not serve and many will follow their example and the IDF will be depleted in all branches or these men can enlist as regulars and mutiny in ways that will send Barak running like a rat like he did at Tzeelim. The most decorated soldier in the IDF has the courage of a wax candle in a burning building
20. 11 , shalom and abba in modi'in
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.13.09)
who has won all Israel's wars ? who gave their blood for this country in 48 you know ? i'll tell you , it were mostly seculars if not anti religious . Who were the boys who liberated Yeroushalaim ? not your yeshive bochourim , they sat on their tachat in their yeshivot . Those boys will have to change to another Yeshiva , with Rabbanim who know that soldiers have to obey orders in a democratic country
21. Do we really need barak in the government?
jason white ,   afula,israel   (12.13.09)
This little weasel worries more about the enemy and less about the defense of Israel. All governments should leave the army out of politics. The soldiers are there to defend Jews and not ethnically cleanse parts of the land of Israel to please the goyim. They are still trying to destroy us after 2,000 years and likud, kadima, labor and meretz are helping them along with our unelected president.
22. Damned if you do...
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (12.13.09)
Damned if you don't. Seculars complain that Haredi yeshiva students don't serve in the IDF, and now the yeshiva students that DO serve in the IDF, they want to throw out. Anything, in order to keep hate on the religious and keep a toe hold on power.
23. I will tell my Kravi Hesder kids NOT to serve the Hellenist
klaus   (12.13.09)
24. Watch what happens now!
Lisa Levy ,   Israel   (12.14.09)
Barak will curse the day he did this - Har Bracha Yeshiva will become THE most popular yeshiva in Israel. AND it will get lots of donations from abroad - Jews (and Christians) who love Israel and love G-d and know the Real Deal.
25. Barak is a failure and must be made to leave
Hen   (12.14.09)
He is one of the deliberate-war-loss clowns and must go - now. Hasn't he hurt Israel and her reputation enough already?
26. Rabbi vs Barak
Brod ,   USA   (12.14.09)
The Rabbi knows the GOD of Israel and the Land of Israel. Does Barak know the Source of Israel's Protection and Defense-Israel's Strength, Rock, Fortress, Stronghold, Help, Helper, Rescue, Hope, Mighty One, Defender Trust, Peace-the GOD of Israel? Since ancient time, the GOD of Israel has helped Israel defeat its enemies so long as Israel is obedient to Him.
27. If the sayreet Matkal made trouble would he remove them
zionist forever   (12.14.09)
If there were a few trouble makers in the Sayeret Matkal which Barak himself served in or intelligence branches would he decide to remove those branches of the IDF because he finds the comments of a few unacceptable? This isn't about a few trouble makers its about the whole idea of religion in the IDF. In what is today a much more secular Israel some people think that there is no place for religion in the IDF and Barak is probably one of them. He has used these comments as a justification to wrap up the Hesder and take another aspect of religion out of the IDF. This will be bad for moral in general and its going to make some ultra orthodox like Chabad who join regular brigades feel that the IDF persecutes religious jews and they may choose to opt out on religious grounds which they would be entitled to do. Can Barak risk loosing regular soldiers because he wants to get rid of Hesder. He should also remember that there are plenty of Labour party members and voters who are untra orthodox ( they dont all go for Shas ). Upset a large sector of society like that Barak risks his party loosing even more seats to Kadima next election. STOP PERSECUTING RELIGIOUS JEWS
28. #11 We did fine in 1948 and 1967 with chilonim
Chaim   (12.14.09)
On the other hand we did poorly in Lebanon 2006 and Gaza 2008. So maybe you should stop constantly inflating your ego and think about what you are saying.
29. Chaim #28 You hit the nail right on the head.
Zionist Mum ,   Israel   (12.14.09)
The proponents of the Hesder yeshivot believe their own propaganda. They are but a small fraction of the army and are not indispensible in spite of what they claim. It is an insult to all the secular majority to state that without the relatively small number of hesder officers the army is worthless. Who needs such arrogance?
30. Get rid of Barak. first lebanon withdrawal/hizbullah empower
Jae ,   Lynn US   (12.14.09)
ment, then same for hamas...now this? Barak needs to go
