1. danger to Israel not existential, says a left wing journalist
go back to sleep ,   mr.Yishai   (12.22.09)
2. This man (the writer) is out of his mind
Darlingboy!   (12.22.09)
If the nuc bomb is used, the entire M. E. will be ruined and devastated, dont mention the tiny Israel. Happy new year every one :o)
3. To the auther
Amr ,   Egypt   (12.22.09)
Be sure that erasing the israeli state from the map shouldn't only be through the nuclear weapons, it is only a matter of time for this to happen, you don't have the characteristics of existance.
4. This feel good article makes no sense. Israel MUST act.
Chaim ,   Israel   (12.22.09)
If, as the article and many independent sources acknowledge, Iran is only a few months from building functional nuclear bombs, how can we believe all is well with Iran? Is our monitoring of Iran so exact we know exactly where the Mad Mullahs stand regarding nuclear bombs? Are we willing to risk all based on a shaky theory? Have the Mad Mullahs invested bilions to make nuclear bombs only to stop at the 11th hour? This feel good article makes no sense. Israel MUST act to destroy Iran's nukes.
5. America's leadership? Must have missed it.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (12.22.09)
Deadline after deadline passes, still without a serious response from the US. Now we're reading that the US is going to give Iran another 6-12 months. Heck, it seems even the French are frustrated with the US. For Israel to act (or rather not act) while hoping for "the regime's collapse in a few years" strikes me as wishful thinking. And why would one assume that a next intifada "will apparently not be violent", especially if Israel foolishly releases 1,000 terrorists to Hamas and hundreds more to "strengthen Abbas"? More wishful thinking. As to the Hiroshima/Nagasaki cases, they're hardly relevant. They, after all, *ended* a war. But an Israel weakened by such a strike will invite Israel's neighbors to pile in to finish the job.
6. A little faith would help too.
Danny ,   Vancouver, Canada   (12.22.09)
G-d has been there for us in the past. He'll be there for us again. He's waiting to hear from us. Just say the word.
7. wrong again
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (12.22.09)
It is always surprising when self-proclaimed experts like Ben-Yishai get it wrong due to their Leftist world view. Iran is not a threat to Israel, but a threat to American oil and its Arab puppet regimes. The threat to Israel is the war with the Arabs of Gaza, Judea, Samaria. In the framework of this war there is no "diplomatic impasse" and no "surprising peace". The Arabs don't need to talk because they are getting Israeli concessions without and there is nothing to be gained by violent confrontation. The Arabs have everything to gain by waiting. Hamas and Hezbolla are strengthening their rule and arming for the next conflict. Fatah is busy Palestinizing Israeli Arabs and taking over land in Judea and Samaria. In the meantime, the Arabs are waging a continuous propaganda war to delegitimize Israel, for example using their Swedish allies, Goldstone, amd organizations like "Peace Now" and "Breaking the Silence". In analogy to the Gush Katif expulsion, the next round will begin after Barak and Netanyahu finish their attacks on the Jews. With a IDF demoralized after its combat soldiers, wives and children are beaten by YSM stormtroopers, a populace hating its undemocratic government and Israeli airport and population centers in range, the time will be right for attack.
8. Stop dreaming : No to Iran’s nuclear program.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (12.22.09)
In order to put an end to Iran’s nuclear program, the U.S.A. has to close the door to investment in the Iran oil sector, loans to the government from the World Bank and from corporations around the world. Only then, it will be possible to negotiate with strength. There is a rumor that the United States is already doing all it can [on Iran] – it is not true. The United States does’nt put sufficient economic pressure on Iran. In the economic area they have been very unwilling to take the steps that have to be taken. Iran is still collecting the physical material needed for nuclear weapons. Iran is using the development of civilian energy infrastructure to assist its nuclear program. If Iran will have the bomb, it will not hesitate to use its nuclear power against the West. In order to have an idea about the possibilities of Iran, lets have a look at Damietta : http://xrl.us/bf3de7
9. Bad reporting and or opinion.
Addle ,   Toronto   (12.22.09)
"On one hand, the Ayatollahs in Tehran continued to enrich uranium and develop nuclear weapons this past year" What? When did they say that? I don't recall any official Iranian leader saying they're building nuclear weapons. This fear mongering of Iran needs to come to a stop and look at the real issues. Israel's nukes in Dimona go without inspection and or regulation by the international community but somehow have the time to bad mouth Iran's nuclear program (to which they have no evidence for building nuke weapons). And even if Iran does build nukes, who cares? Can they not have it for self defense? What moral authority does say, the U.S have or any other country for that matter with nukes to tell Iran what they can or cannot do within their sovereign boarders? If there ever is to be peace, countries need to put away the war drums that kill endless amounts of civilians.
10. In one word? Irresponsible.
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim,   (12.22.09)
B"H Ron Ben-Yishai is ynetnews' military expert and has an impressive bio. He is the man who supposed to know. Yet, let me ventilate a recent personal experience. I gave my modest savings to an expert friend of mine. He is a widely published author of financial articles, specializing on hi-fly, complex, hedge-fund style operations I don't even understand the denomination, let alone how they work. Well, in the last year this expert lost 87% of my wealth. Practically, almost everything. Why do I mention this? In order to make the point that "expert articles" or rather articles of so called experts like this one and reality are two completely different worlds that don't even overlap. Ron Ben-Yishai's latest "analysis" is nothing more than a virtual heroin shot in the arm of a Jew (well, let’s say Jew for argument’s sake) surrendered by a mob of Arabs ready to lynch him. Frankly, his saying to us not worry about the Iranian nuclear threat is nothing short of irresponsible. The correct message I’d expect from an expert would be that we must not allow a nuclear Iran. That we have to find a way to neutralize this threat before it hits us.
11. Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Tel Aviv's fate?
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (12.22.09)
Is this "journalist" serious??? If Tel Aviv is hit by a nuclear tipped missile fired by Iran then the whole country will cease to exist. Israel is not a big country like Japan and most of the population and economic interests are in the Tel Aviv area. The ONLY answer is to attack Iran's nuclear facilities BEFORE they attack us.
12. Comments
Mikael Tapuach ,   London, England   (12.22.09)
Ariel Ben Yochanan & Israeli Israel have hit the nail on the head. Ron Ben Yishai as with other successful journalists / broadcasters of his generation are wildly out of touch with contemporary Israeli society and the threats to our existence.
