63. Meaningless from the disengenuous worst president ever
mea again   (12.22.09)
Although it is possible he may have a successor to that title very soon if stupid arse Obama doesn't get a brain, nevertheless, Carter's apology is not believable--not after all the deeds he has done and with all his intentions towards delegitmizing Israel. Why does he not retrack the remarks in his Apartheid book which were so biased that 34 senior Carter Center executive LEFT THIS JOBS in protest??! What this apology stinks of is a stunt, and an effort to cut a notch in his legacy timeline so that history records he issued it. This apology is not sincere. If it were,he would have done it in a way that retracks specific remarks--instead he covers it under some supposed Al Het--as if a non Jew could do that when it isn't even Yom Kippur. President Peanut you can keep your apology--I,like many bloggers will make sure that history indexes the truth of your sold out Arab sucking lying cheating fabricating lousey presidency and your piss poor legacy as the worst president ever. NOwaswellaslater wewillbe writing about your betrayal of Israeland you truly lousey leadership--long after you are dead. History willnot save you. You betrayed Israel, and neither the people of Israel,Jewish Americans (notice how you pointedly did not apologize to Israelis, a-hole!) Christian supporters of Israel,or G-d Himself will ever forgive you. Go to hell, Carter!
64. Please let me speak to the UJC-GA-we are both for gerush
Jimmy Carter ,   Plains, GA   (12.22.09)
An open letter to the Jewish community at the season of Chanukah from former President Jimmy Carter: The time of Chanukah and the Christian holidays presents an occasion for reflection on the past and for looking to the future. In that vein, I wish to share some thoughts with you about the State of Israel and the Middle East. I have the hope and a prayer that the State of Israel will flourish as a Jewish state within secure and recognized borders in peaceful co-existence with its neighbors and with all the Moslem States, and that this peaceful co-existence will bring security, prosperity and happiness to the people of Israel and to the people of the Middle East of all faiths. I have the hope and a prayer that the bloodshed and hatred will change to mutual respect and cooperation, fulfilling the prophetic aspiration that the lion shall lie down with the lamb in harmony and peace. I likewise hope that violent attacks against all civilians will end, which will help set a better framework for commencing negotiations. I further hope that peace negotiations can soon commence, with all issues on the negotiating table. I have the hope and a prayer that just as Chanukah is the Festival of Lights, the State of Israel will fulfill its destiny as a light unto the nations. We must recognize Israel’s achievements under difficult circumstances, even as we strive in a positive way to help Israel continue to improve its relations with its Arab populations, but we must not permit criticisms for improvement to stigmatize Israel. As I would have noted at Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, but which is appropriate at any time of the year, I offer an Al Het for any words or deeds of mine that may have done so. May we work and pray for that better day. Hag Semach and Happy Chanukah.
65. This Jew will NEVER forgive you Carter!
Words have power!   (12.22.09)
Carter's words made it understandable, if not acceptable to murder Jews in the own land. He is a pig and NOT worthy of any discussion or thought. Rot in hell you lying bastard.
66. Now that our resident Jew hater, "Matty
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (12.22.09)
Groves", is transliterating from Hebrew into English, someone ought to explain to him that "al Het" is incorrect, that the prayer for repentence is written "al Chet" as we have two letters in Hebrew, one for "H" and one for "CH". And "Matty", now that you are beginning to show off your knowledge of all things Judaica while allowing us the advantage of your incredible intelligence, why not actually learn the Hebrew alphabet and, while you're at it, Israeli history and then take advantage of your superior knowledge base by making a personal extended visit to our country so you can fathom the situation from a first-person perspective?

Publish lies, broadcast them all over the world in seminars, town hall meetings, weekly newscasts, and then suddenly ask for forgiveness? Maybe that works in the Christian world... they didn't lose 50% of their numbers up in smoke in 6years. Jimmi the Dhimmi....no tshuva for you.

I wonder how much of our money he sent to Israel. Only $30billion? Scumbag!
73. Hatred of Jews is easier to develop than liking for ...
Ron B. ,   Lod   (12.22.09)
Hatred of Jews is easier to develop than liking for Palestinians. Israel’s enemies made anti-Zionism almost a religion on the Left, especially on college campuses. Hatred of Jews is easier to develop and sustain than liking for Palestinians, (something that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has found effective to exploit.) Jew-hatred is inextricably bound up with the anti-Zionism of the Palestinians, the Arab nations, and the Iranians. And as anti-Semitism has been compared to a virus, is it surprising that it has also affected many of the Western supporters of the Middle Eastern anti-Zionist cause? 74. to #64 too late for apology
ghostq   (12.22.09)
the massive damag has been done, no trust in the Americans from now on cause the first thing they do is side the terrorist who responsible for sucide bombing this is not a matter of oops I said something wrong, some damages r irversal and cannot be mend, if in time in need USA turn her back on Israel than Israel need her help, you can talk peace this and peace that but until now Israel is the only one whi initiate and gave, while arabs countries didn't do nothing. It's about time Israel say enough is enough now Israel will take matter to her own hands and won't let fool drag her by her nose, the Egypt peace is very cold and unprofitable to Israel, Israel got nothing in return. Jimmy mess up in big time and now say sorry but it's too late, for forgivness, in time of need you can see who r your real friends and Jimmy is not one of them. Up untill now Israel was patient with palis when but no more cause they favorit school lesson is hate the Israeli so in other words they didn't initiate nothing and they r not interested in peace and after I heard what Olmert offered them which was very generous they didn't answered it's too late once againe they could do something for peace but missed, so people don't care about palis any more they missed too many opertunities and they told too many lies, noone trust them, they them selves don't trust them, since the Fatah Hamas talk r not finilized. so get real cause the damage jimmy did cannot be mend and he is not trust worthy as much as the palis he run so fast to hug.

77. Carter apologizes for 'stigmatizing Israel'
Anat ,   new york   (12.22.09)
Hmm... Curious timing for an "apology". Perhaps it is because his grandson Jason Carter is seeking to run for a Georgia state senate seat in a heavily Jewish area. David Adelman, who currently holds the seat, has been nominated as ambassador to Singapore.
78. Good step for Carter.
Izik ,   Tel-Aviv   (12.22.09)
79. to #77 really??? :o

80. carter
sas ,   israel   (12.22.09)
easy for him to apologize. he caused enough damage and everyone knows how he feels towards jews and israel. look what he did to family shalit................i have a feeling that obama will be a 2nd carter.
81. Carter, you're disgusting
Cynthia ,   USA   (12.22.09)
You peddled your anti-Israel propaganda all over the world for profit. Now you feel guilty and want forgiveness. Forget it!!! History has already recorded your treachery.
82. Forget about it...
AlexB ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.22.09)
What, you think this apology can atone for or reverse even one percent of the damage you've done? You're either being a cynical politician, or are losing your mental capacity to old age. At any rate, deeds speak louder than any empty words. If you want to atone , then make a positive difference. Do something in the interest of Israel. Something the PEOPLE of Israel (and American Jews too) would like, not the Israeli politicians who have no choice but to thank and kiss the behind of any American politician, past or present. Do something like that, and then we'll see about accepting your apology. As for Abe Foxman, this man has been discrediting himself more and more over the past couple of years. Don't think even for a second you're off the hook because he said you are.
83. carter's appology to the Jewish nation
susan bohbot ,   Israel   (12.22.09)
There is no excusing or forgiving Carter. He will have to do a lot more than his offer of an apolgy to atone for his pro terrorist and anti-Semetic stance, that has attacked Israel's right to defend herself, and supported terrorism all over the world.
84. Jimmy has no apology on his website & refuted it Saturday
DisappointedInJimmy ,   Dallas TX, USA   (12.22.09)
I was excited to read of Carter’s change of heart, and thought it might be on his website, but it is not! I’m sorry, but Carter’s repentance is not genuine! Read his OpEd published Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, by The Guardian, from his website, http://cartercenter.org/news/editorials_speeches/gaza-121909.html. I see nothing in it about a contrite, heartfelt apology! Carter continues to only have a one-sided negative image toward Israel, without recognizing, much less criticizing, any of the terror from the PA, Hamas or Syria. He lies about “the long-standing basic requirements for peace commonly accepted within the international community, including that Israel's pre-1967 boundaries will prevail”, because the position of the UN when it passed Security Council Resolution 242 was that the 1967 boundaries were not defensible, so would have to change. Only recently has anyone even dared to propose this! Carter is wanting to make ’67 lines a pre-condition, along with “declaring any further expansion of settlements illegal” “within Palestine” and saying that Israel cannot retain “control of East Jerusalem”. Hypocritically, he wants no conditions or accountability for the Arabs. He excuses the Arabs from responsibility because he blames everybody else. The loss of “schools, hospitals and factories” was because Hamas used them for terrorism, including 800+ rockets into Israel. Sadly Carter doesn’t yet understand the true intention of his Islamic friends that still want to destroy Israel, and will let their own people suffer and die rather than stop fighting. Neither does Carter yet understand the true meaning of “the season for forgiveness, reconciliation and peace”, so he can’t model it for angry Arabs who don’t understand it either, much less give up his morally inverted passion for stigmatizing Israel.
85. 9 , Brian , what a vulgarity you show !
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.22.09)
86. # 72
(12.22.09)
No doubt you never complain about the billions we gave to Egypt and got some of the 9/11 hijackers in return. And what about the money we've thrown down that rat hole known as the Palestinian Authority...even after we saw the Palestinians celebrating the deaths of 3,000 innocent Americans? Frankly, people like you and Jimmy Carter are both scumbags.
87. To repair the damage done
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.22.09)
he'll need to give much more than some apologies . He damaged a lot with his words and this book . He should have thinked at this BEFORE , now it's too late . But insulting him , or sending him "nice" words is falling very low , and is'nt very smart , the contrary .
88. to #72 check your facts
ghostq   (12.22.09)
when USA gives Israel money it's a loan with intrest basicaly you enslave Israel to debt, and which during this time USA buy Israeli technology, to Palis is more one way street you as American send money one direction and get mad pali in Dalas Army base in return, that the only thing you ever got back so before you talk, check your facts, cause you collect your intrest money each year.
89. you are missing the point
tomek ,   lublin, poland   (12.22.09)
As a Christian, President Carter condemns the sin, not the sinner. Because his opionions unintentionally stigmatized Israel (i.e., the sinner) as a violent state, he apologises for this. It does not follow, however, that Israel's attrocities (the sins) are not to be condemned.
90. Just who does he think he's kidding???
