6. Israel Is NOT "a largely secular society"
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (01.14.10)
An Israel Democratic Institute (IDI) demographic survey 2 years ago found that the secular public comprises only 20% of the Israeli population - compared to 41% in 1974. And the numbers are dropping fast. Nearly half the population, 47%, describes itself as traditional, while the hareidi-religious and religious together comprise 33% of the public. And with half of today's Jewish Israeli children in this latter category, clearly, Landau is on borrowed time and barking up the wrong tree.
7. can't find a publisher
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (01.14.10)
The book is generating no controversy except in Landau's mind. Can't find a publisher willing to "take it on"? That could be because the publishers knows that the no one is interested in buying the book or, just as likely, the book is poorly written.
8. #6 Israel is largely a secular society
Avi ,   Israel   (01.14.10)
Obviously you havent driven down the coast road on saturday . I rest my case ! no one is forcing you to buy the book or eat pork unlike the ultra orthdox who try to ban chammetz telling us what we can and cannot eat based on their religious beliefs and not there, And for the record i have never eaten meat or fish in my life, but i respect the fact that those who wish to may do so. Well dont to the author in breaking down the barriers and ending the religious monopoly! Pork chop anyone ?
9. 1: Get over what - that he's just trying to p_ss people off?
Global Citizen ,   Israel & USA   (01.14.10)
His book has nothing to do with the bible or even cooking, and everything to do with being an in-your-face opportunist - straddling the line between being no Jew at all and being justification for anti-Semitism.
10. Good news but Why put FM Lieberman's front Photo with news?

17. Swine is Unclean
Brod ,   USA   (01.15.10)
The Creator has classified swine as one of the unclean animals that should not be eaten. Swine is a scavenger. Its meat contains trichina worms. Read Leviticus 11:1-47.
18. Pork
TR ,   Israel   (01.15.10)
The majority of Jews here in Israel, observant or not, stay away from pork. Maybe he should publish his cookbook in Russian.
19. Eat more beans and legumes for health
Logic ,   Israel   (01.15.10)
20. Yet another example of Self Hate from a Tsfoni Drek
Naomi ,   Netanya   (01.15.10)
21. What's next, a cannibal cookbook?
Tina   (01.15.10)
As long as the person isn't murdered, and the gourmet isn't Jewish (so they don't care about keeping kosher, which FORBIDS cannibalism or eating blood), cannibalism is a very "green" way to recycle and protect the environment because there's no burial. When a person eats meat at a restaurant that doesn't have kosher supervision, they might already be a cannibal (mixed in with the other treif meat) without knowing.
22. Fanatics
Ariel ,   São Paulo - Brazil   (01.15.10)
Fanatics never accept ideas other than their. Anything contrary to his conception of the world, so it is taxed as incorrect. The answers show us who are the fanatics
23. Glad this goofball is not practicing medicine anymore.
Mea   (01.15.10)
His judgment is weird. What a totally bizarro thing to do. Fruitloop.
24. The truth about pork
NYC Girl   (01.16.10)
First of all, from a medical perspective, pork is healthier than beef and lamb because it's very lean. In fact, these days, a lot of chefs complain about the fact that most pork products no longer contain enough fat. Not only that, but pigs are clean, intelligent animals...which is probably the best argument for NOT eating them. But all this gagging and retching on the part of some people who've demonized pork is silly. Because if you refuse to eat pork due to your religious beliefs, that's fine. But it's utterly ridiculous to talk about eating pork as if it were any more disgusting than eating any other dead animal.
25. So? He is Israeli, not Jewish.
Walter ,   Anchorage USA   (01.16.10)
A disgusting subject by any author, whether Israeli, French, Lebanese or whatever.
26. must have been a slow news day. not news at all

27. This story was headlines on World TV-Israel help in Haiti-no
Alan ,   SA   (01.16.10)
28. Try find a Kosher restaurant in Herzeliya industrial zone
Liberman voter ,   Israel   (01.16.10)
There are some, but most restaurants in this mostly hi-tech zone are not Kosher. Most don't serve pork, but many serve both meat and milk products. If you think pork is not tasty (disgusting?) you're a fool because you never tried it. I like pork and it doesn't make me less Jewish in my mind. Being Jewish isn't just believing in Yehovah, it's also tradition and society. There's no God, but this doesn't make me or you less Jewish.
29. Liberman Voter #28
Brod ,   USA   (01.16.10)
Being a Jew means being a follower of the GOD of Israel.
30. Wonder Why He's Doing This?
Christy ,   Boston, US   (01.17.10)
Since he's a cardiologist, it makes me wonder if he's discovered some ways to cook pork that he thinks are very healthy and wants to share those ways? Seems to me there must be some reason behind this. He certainly couldn't believe this would be a well received book in Israel. If I were him, I'd try getting it published in the US. At least he'd have a better chance of a receptive audience than in Israel.
