If Abbas even tries to back down from his current position of Israel stopping all construction, even in e. Jerusalem, he looses what little political clout he still has after Obama killed it in NYC. And to make it worse he can not bring his people to the table by representing the Palestinian people. He does not represent Hamas, Fatah, Islamic Jihad, or any of the other groups. So what Mitchell can threaten Israel all he wants, but until they hold Palestinian elections and Fatah and Hamas reconcile it is all talk.

What's "Jerusalem, Palestine"? Last time I checked, Jerusalem was NEVER the capital of Palestine in history. Hell, the last time I checked, Palestine was never even a country in history. Earlier in the year Mitchell was going around Israel's back and having EU sanctions for israel.

He does not have the authority to decide on aid, nor does his boss Billary, nor does her boss Odumba. The United States Congress does that.

Israel's economy is doing just fine - better than the US, as it happens. The Bank of Israel is working to prop up the dollar, not the shekel! The IMF recently declared Israel a safe place to invest, and money is pouring in. The US in the mid-1980s couldn't even sanction Toshiba for selling critical technology to the Soviets because so many US firms needed stuff Toshiba provided. Can the US really sanction Israel, given how dependent GE, Intel, Microsoft, Google, Cisco and others are on Israel? Or how about Oshkosh, reliant on Israel for armor protecting US troops in Afghanistan, or Boeing and Lockheed for Israeli orders? For Mitchell even to hint of sanctions on Israel shows both desperation and moral bankruptcy. Considering that the PA have hardly budged from their demands, how have *they* contributed to the peace process? Stuff it Mitchell. Slink back into retirement.
