zionist forever   (01.26.10)
Iran has won the nuclear battle. We have been using diplomacy and sanctions for about 7 years now and Iran constantly defies sanctions then says but we want to talk some more so we go back to talking and at the same time Iran continues to enrich uranium. Since Obama came along more than ever they know there is no way anybody is going to stop them. Sanctions is more about making the world think we are doing something not that they ever expect it to go anywhere. Everybody knows Iran needs a nuke to further their political & military ambitions. Iran will defy any sanctions they might impose and negotiations are just games. If the UN wanted to impose sanctions that would really hurt Iran badly Russia & China will always veto it. They let minor sanctions pass for the sake of their own image but thats it. Europeans have always been pacafists when it comes to issues like this. The US has traditionally been willing to take action but after the Iraq disaster Bush didn't want to use force and Obama ruled out military action as an election promise. As long as Obama refuses to give the go ahead Israel can't even try and go it alone. The US has that nice X Band radar in the Negev they will be on the phone to Washington the minute planes leace israel airspace, no more surprises like in 1981. Obamas new policy seems to be if I can convince Iran not to develop nukes wonderful if not then I will just wait till they get the things and then try and talk them into giving them up later. It wouldn't even surprise me if Obama did a secret deal with Ahmadinejad the US will tone things down and let you get nukes as long as you don't put together the actual bomb on my watch do that when the next president comes along. Time to face the reality that Iran will have nukes because of European & US never had their hearts in any plans to stop Iran they were not willing to do whatever needed to be done.

5. noteworthy?
tom ,   toronto, canada   (01.26.10)
chancellor merkl seems to be calling for urgent sanctions as another way of speaking against urgent action - what the germans are even more afraid of. hopefully, Israeli leaders aren't briefing her on operational plans. it's also interesting to note that der spiegel is now involved in "intelligence work" for the IAEA. unbelievable!
6. Peres & Merkel can coordinate their attack on Iran

9. this *proves* my point
ben Ish   (01.26.10)
Calling out for a new round of talks and sanctions - - - AFTER the deadline has already been pushed back. How does that make sense at all? It has already been decided that Iran has until December 2010 before anything else happens, talks or otherwise. So if they are saying "Oh, we need to have more talks and sanctions..." Who could they possibly be saying it to? It CANNOT be directed at Iran. They just gave Iran another year! Talking about talks and sanctions can ONLY for public consumption. It is only to keep YOU from realizing that everyone is already on Iran's side, and stories like this proves it every single day .
10. For Iran,”negotiation” and “compromise” are euphemisms ...
Ron B. ,   Lod   (01.27.10)
For Iran,”negotiation” and “compromise” are euphemisms for shame and surrender. In the new Cold War shaping up between Islamism and the democratic West, Israel holds the front line. Once again, the values of the opposing sides are irreconcilable. In the Arab and Muslim order, power is absolute and has to be victorious, so “negotiation” and “compromise” are euphemisms for shame and surrender. Islamist Iran has made itself the driving force. The terrorist movements Hizbullah and Hamas are both Iranian satellites, and their presence on Israel’s borders ensures that Iran can already engage in terrorism on its own terms and at times of its own choosing. 11. To #3 and all those who believe iran needs a nuke to..
AR ,   USA   (01.28.10)
Take over the ME. You dont understand the ME at all. Iran's greatest advantage is that it is one of the largest countries in the ME. If it attacked another nation like iraq conventionally it would win (unlike in the iran iraq war iran has a functioning military now) A nuclear Iran would go counter to its military advantage because then the arab nations would all arm themselves with nukes to defend against iran. Iran wants to play this nuclear game so America wont attack it for fear of nuclear retaliation not because it wants to wipe out israel or take over the ME. You all saw what a couple iranians and a few thousand lebonese could do to the mighty IDF they dont need no stinkin nukes to fight israel.
