1. Syria also has the right to defend their citizens
ezra ,   london   (02.03.10)
whats good for the goose...
2. The big lie strikes again
Larry ,   Phila, USA   (02.03.10)
The big lie is an interesting technique. It has been used successfully and repeatedly in history. Syrian's foreigh minister wald moallem appears to be trying to use it again and it will probally work on a lot of people. But not on everyone. Be advised walid that a lot of people who have friends who are Jewish, like myself, will be throwing down with them. We will have G-D on our side you can keep the moon.
3. Curious announcement
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.03.10)
... in view of the fact that all of the aggressive and belligerent rhetoric has come from Damascus. Syria, of course, is welcome to bring it on. As long as they remember that next time, Israel may not content itself with stopping at Quneitra ....
4. Most of his remarks reminds me
Israeli remembers   (02.03.10)
of typical Arab bravado. Hitting Israeli cities were similar words used by the Syrians during the Yom Kippur war. It is their subconscious desire to destroy Israel.
5. Their scret weapon will be this fat slob sitting on us

6. Syria is a dangerous enemy we should crush it without delay.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (02.03.10)
We should not miss a second occasion to destroy the terror state Syria. That way we hurt also the fanatic Islamic state of Iran. As a result of a harsh military defeat of Syria the dictatorship of El-Assad may collapse. This might open a new and positive era of relations between Israel and Syria but the Golan should remain a part of Israel. The facts about Syria nowadays are described at : http://xrl.us/oshmc

8. An Ancient (But Timely) Warning To Damascus ...
Craig Crawford ,   Laguna Niguel USA   (02.03.10)
The BIBLE warns Damascus, Syria will someday be completely destroyed and become a "ruinous heap" . . .  "The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap" (This prophecy has not yet been fulfilled ... but it will be fulfilled) (Isaiah 17:1) The Bible warns it will also be a time of trouble for Israel . . ..  "And in that Day (usually refers to the coming 'Apocalypse') it shall come to pass, (when God says 'it shall come to pass' it always happens.) the glory of Jacob (Israel) shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean." (Isaiah 17:4) There will be a coming time of trouble unlike anything in the history of the nation coming to the land of Israel ... Jeremiah calls it 'the time of Jacob's Trouble ... and it is hard to tell if this happens after Damascus is destroyed, or at the same time. We do know from Bible prophecies there will be a coming 3 1/2 year period of false peace in Israel brought in by a strong, powerful, and very popular world leader (also called the "Antichrist") who will someday enforce a 'peace plan' upon nation Israel just before the coming 'Apocalypse' and Armageddon ... We are told here (and in other prophetic passages) that a faithful few in Israel will turn back to God and His Word ... and will discover, from Scripture, that Jesus (Yeshua), is the Messiah (see Micah 5:2) and Holy One of Israel . . .  "At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One (Messiah) of Israel." (Jesus-Yeshua, the promised Messiah) (Isaiah 17:7) God tells us why Jacob's (Israel's) 'trouble' will come . . .  "BECAUSE thou hast forgotten the God of thy Salvation, and hast not been mindful of the Rock of thy strength (the "Rock" is Messiah) (Isaiah 17:10) Grace and Shalom, www.alphanewsdaily.com www.theprophecies.com

10. anybody would think Syria was a global military superpower
zionist forever   (02.03.10)
Hezbollah is a proxy the Syrian army and their job is to fight wars for Syria but use Lebanon as the battlefield so when Israel fights back Assad can sit back and enjoy the show on Al Jazeera. If your going to fight a war go straight to the top and thats Syria. Even a few well placed bombs in Syria as a warning shot may even make Assad think twice. If we do get the chance to go after Syria instead of Lebanon then Assad doesn't have a chance, all these empty threats mean nothing. Syrias old scud missiles are no match for Israels air defenses. The only thing their fighter pilots are taught to do is eject. Their 30 year old T72 tanks are no match for a Merkava. Their navy is comprised of a couple of old frigates and missile boats that they used in 1967 & 1973 wars. Even more importantly from the Golan Heights Israel has the strategic high ground. Most of the battle would take place in Syrian territory before they got anywhere near Israel. This speech is aimed at Obama, in Israel parties like Labour & Kadima voters who are all turning a blind eye to Assads support for terror so we can do a deal with him whatever the price. Calling for peace but a little empty threat in there is well just provide a little scare remind everybody he is stronger than he really is and why we should worry so if we want to be safe then give him anything he wants.
11. International law says it is illegal to attack cities, you
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (02.03.10)
can only attack military targets but then tell that to any koran reading muslum and he will laugh at you. By the way, what retaliation was there from syria when Israel destroyed their nuke site? They shut their mouths and cleaned it up.
12. Rings false from Hariri's killers

Israel is the 'bad boy'? Well these murdering cowards certainly have chutzpah.
13. #6 nah
ben Ish   (02.03.10)
when they see the smoke rising from the rubble that was once Iran, they will (hopefully) realize their best chance of survival is to capitulate, lay down arms, and re-integrate every family they coerced out of Israel in 1948. What I personally hope for, is that they (and Hezb) try something stupid anyway, so that annexation includes not just Golan, but everything north up to the Litani as well. It just makes a better, more defensible border, imo. Too bad a Jordanian incursion is so laughable. Try it, and you will find yourself with 5 million refugees on your side of the river. (ok maybe not, but it makes for a lovely picture, yes?)
14. "...as that entity lives on aggressiveness."
David ,   Hartford USA   (02.03.10)
So the towelhead can't bring himself to mention Israel by name. What a dirtbag. As for his quote, I think it better describes Syria. It was Syria that attacked israel in 1948, 1956, 1967, 1973, etc, not the other way around. As for the next war that the Arabs will start (and Israel will finish), archaeologists will love it because Damascus will become a gigantic ruin. The next war will see Assad and ilk swept into the dustbin of failed Arab dictators. His people will rejoice, and you, dear Foreign Minister, will be living in France on the millions that you stole from your country, right next to Assad's estate. But we'll let you return to have coffee and pastry, in the rebuilt Israeli city of Damascus.

He gets a few points from A'bad for talking tough guy....English say "PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN GLASS HOUSES SHOULD NEVER THROW STONES"
17. think about it, who would come off worse?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (02.03.10)
if israel and syria were to attack each other's cities, who would get the worse end of that deal? israel has reinforced shelters in most every citizen's home, more firepower, more accurate firepower, greater defensive capabilities, etc. sure, syria would do damage, but in the end, damascus would be in hysterics, their air force would be in shambles, and they'd be crying to the UN (like lebanon was) to get israel to stop. big words. just not sure if they are spoken by a comedian or someone without a brain.
18. threats
alexi   (02.03.10)
maollem and assad should understand that youattack israeli cities and we will level damasus, aleppo, latakia and other key places.Olmert and cowardice is gone. Yoiu think about it carefully. And in the event that nasrollah launches attacks and you join in , that will be the trigger to destroy your cities, your airports, your naval bases, your oil and fuel depots, yoiur electricity grid. Golan belongs to israel forever as in ancient times. There is no more olmert, the gutless israeli buffoon. He is gone. Be warned hafez and take care of your beautiful wife.
19. :: Senior Minister of a minority brutal Dictatorship ......
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (02.03.10)
points to a one of the most democratic and free countries of the world and the only democracy in his region as a "bad guy" Laughable! Eat your heart out impostor!
20. "rubble from Iran" Ben Ish?
Rabbi Cohen ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.03.10)
Why would you advocate such a thing? Every one of our rational planners realizes that any move to attack Iran will result in horrible disaster for us. Why do you want our leaders to commit an irrational act and perhaps put our Israel in mortal jeopardy? Are you one of those types of people they describe as a fifth column working to destroy our state from inside? You must not covet the Litani. Our leaders have repeatedly said that we do not intend to invade Lebanon and take the land to the Golani River. They understand that the world would not countenance that. Even the USA would be moved to vote against us. Our Moshe Dayan said that we took the Golan Heights. It was not taken and held for self-defense. It was taken for the rich land and resources and a nice vacation spot for our fellow Israelis. I would never go there. It is not ours.
21. Israel ignores international law Bunnie Meyer...
Rabbi Cohen ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.03.10)
There is no reason to expect other countries in the region to pay attention to law while Israel is the largest violator in the region. Shortly after the attack on an alleged nuclear reactor, in itself a violation of international law and Syria's sovereignty, our Prime Minister Ehud Olmert offered to return the entire Golan Heights. We would not have made such an offer if there was any truth to the supposed attack.
22. sorry, i must correct minister moallem:
gadi, idf ,   israel   (02.03.10)
of what i know about my country and it's army, you wont even be able to quick enough to push any "buttons". if you defend hizbolla by offensive actions against israel, you're country will look like haiti does right now... my advise, think twice before you act. in the end it's your innocent citizen who suffer the most, simply because a dumbass trigger happy minister wanted to brag with his ego... not so smart.
23. Allah, here we come, just prepare the broads...!
Jojo ,   PRTWASHNY   (02.03.10)
If, We will, When, etc., etc,. etc.. A favorite ' song and dance ' for which Arab are justly famous all over the world. The problems with fantasies like pipe dreams, Pfoof, they evaporate. Just reminiscing : Our Heroes are at the gates of Degania, resistance is crumbling ; our Superb fighters have crushed the enemy on the Golan and advancing ; our Glorious pilots have down xxx jets ; Israeli tanks have been decimated.... Then, reality sets in " we didn't know they were a few minutes from Damascus ". Just like the Egyptians who were sold defective grenades, or Russia sold them defective Migs, Like the Romeo telling his Brunhilda that the dance floor is not leveled. And today, this barrel of fat is selling to the poor people of Syria another " Mille et une nuit d'Avanture " As The Aztec used to say " Plus ca change.."

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.03.10)
Of course he is!! He would do well to remember that it really makes no difference to Israel if there is just one large glowing cinder where Iran used to be or two large glowing cinders -- one where Iran used to be and one where Syria used to be ....
26. To: No. 24
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.03.10)
It wasn't Americans that kicked your ass in 1967. t wasn't Americans that kicked your ass even harder in 1973. It wasn't Americans that shot down over 80 Syrian MIGs in 1982 (although better than half of the MIGs were piloted by Russians). It wasn't Americans that turned you nuclear ambitions into rubble in October of 2007. Dream on. "Eagle, indeed." More like a chicken about to be slaughtered .....

30. The Golan: If you travel to The Golan,
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (02.03.10)
at the end of the route you will see exactly where it overlooks a Syrian Druse village way down below. There is also a small lake right before you get to the village. The water from this lake is not used for agricultural purposes, however. It is a manmade lake which, in time of war, can be used by the Syrians as a means of flooding the area and therefore of holding up Israeli tanks. The Golan is obviously valuable in war as it overlooks both Syria and the rest of Israel. Israel fought hard for it in 1967 and in 1973. Many soldiers were lost in the fighting. The hulks of battered tanks can still be seen on the terrain. These tanks act as a memorial for the fallen Israeli soldiers who fought so bravely on the heights. Israel will, and cannot ever, give up The Golan as its strategic value is so great. About 20,000 Syrian Druse reside in the area. They identify, for the most part, with Syria. There are also about 20,000 Israelis. There are many agricultural fields as well as pastures for domestic animals. The whole area could be made suitable for another 1/2 million people. There is a wildness about the area. There are many trees, rocks and bushes. It would be a wonderful place for young Israeli families to come and put down their roots. Israel will remain the keeper of the Golan and, perhaps, will one day officially annex it. The loss for Syria is trivial except for its strategic location and for the usual Arab sense of "honour". While Syria is bleating about challenging Israel in terms of war, my own reaction is that these statements are made to keep the Syrian masses off-balance so that they do not have the opportunity to see their own government for what it is: an anti-democratic aristocracy which appears to have little or no concern for the social good of their own citizenry.
