31. Why the Golan is no longer tactically useful
To all the arm chair generals on here who actually haven't been paying attention to the development of military technology since the advent of the V-1 missile, the high ground is no longer tactically significant if your enemy has no intention of actually fighting you.
Syria has stockpiled a massive arsenal of missiles all pointed at central Israel. These aren't Hezbollah little missiles. These are big scary missiles with war heads that can knock down an apartment building. The Syrians aren't going to fight Israel on the Golan. They're not insane. They tried that twice and lost badly. If there is a next war with Syria it will involve hundreds of missiles flying into Central and Northern Israel everyday and probably indiscriminately. What will become of the French and Russian aliyah? They'll probably leave the country until the war is over. What will happen to Israel's economy? It will be dealt a terrible and mortal blow.
Naturally, Israel will win. Everything will return to the status quo. Assad will still be in power because America will destroy Israel itself before it sees the IDF in an Arab capital city. We will be left with a crippled economy, short a few tens of thousands citizens with dual-nationality and grieving for the loss of so many lives. It will be a pyhrric victory that will only force us to give up the Golan for peace after we got a bloody nose like we did with Egypt and the Sinai in '73.
You fools with your puffed up pride. A war with Syria Israel will win. But have you asked yourselves at what price? Because even if we do we will still give them back the Golan one day
We achieved our "iron wall" doctrine and now it is time to make peace with the Syrians.

33. When have consessions brought peace?
I see a lot of articles coming from the Israeli, US, and European journalists with pleas for land consessions. The motivation is of course "peace". But why has no one ever raised the question of precedents? In the history of Israel has there been a situation (Egypt aside) where giving up the land brought peace? Ever? The author convieniently forgot to mention that prior to the war in Lebanon Israel pulled the troops from the South Lebanon lands. Prior to rocket attacks in Gaza Israel pullet settlements in Gaza. We can go on with these examples.
How about some intellectual honesty for a change????

34. Leftist nonsence
Are people like Megged capable of any thoughts other than committing national suicide? Don't sixty years of broken treaties, constant threats and unprovoked attacks tell these people anything? There is no negotiation with those who continually seek your destruction. Syria, Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah don't want peace with Israel, they want Israel destroyed.

35. What?!
"PM knows that rejection of peace with Syria will lead to terrible war" ------ Why would Syria go to war after almost 40 years of peace? Do you know something the rest of the World does not? Please, do share.

36. Smith #31 you might want to learn something about war
The high ground is extremely advantageous especially in today's world.
By keeping the high ground we deny the Syrians the ability to self correct their aim since they do not have direct line of sight. Whereas we not only have the ability to detect missile launches from greater ranges, but far more accurately as well, giving us the advantage in counter battery fire. We do not have to maintain AWACS because we have the high ground. We have a force multiplier of about 10 to 1. Meaning the Syrians have to have at least 10 to 1 superiority in arms.
Any idiot claiming that having the high ground doesn't matter knows absolutely nothing about combat. As a former battalion commander I do know. If you think that we won't level their population centers then you at stupid.
I was in the '73 and we did a lot more than give the Egyptians a bloody nose. If Nixon hadn't saved them they would have lost their entire army in another week.

38. I haven't seen a bacterium or virus negotiate
for peace. Negotiations just postpone the war for a little period of time.
They gave Gaza back....what has it gotten anyone but more missiles fired into Israel.
These people on your borders are your enemies. Quit pretending that they have a conscience and won't harm Jews. They hate you...it is a simple concept to figure out.
Why fight the current?

39. get real
You are deceived. You don't want the peace. Israel won the Golan Heights. It is theirs. Because they won't hand it back to you doesn't mean they don't want peace.
You don't want peace. You want piece, a piece of Israel, piece by piece.
Take the Palestinians. Get them out of the land, living with people they despise. You take them in. You have more land and they are arabs.
The US welcomes refugees, but Israel isn't our puppet. The US has shown its colors with the new president and any nation that harms the apple of God's eye will be judged. US included.

43. Megged's falacious reasoning
Can Megged guarantee a future peace with Syria, even after Golan is returned? Don't forget, war without the strategic Golan would be quite dangerous to northern Israel.
Why is giving up Golan the only path to peace? What about peace for peace? Is there some metaphysical reason that Syria deserves to rule the Golan? Don't the Jews living there deserve more consideration than the Damascus thugs? The Golan is part of Israel. That's why Israel doesn't offer to sacrifice it.

44. Eyal Megged, Where did you learn strategic, . . . . .
international policy making. The Golan has strategic, military importance as well as valuable land resources. DO YOU REALLY THINK YOU CAN GET ENDURING PEACE FROM SYRIA FROM TRADING A PIECE OF LAND AND SIGNING A PIECE OF PAPER? Michael Savage was right. Liberalism is a mental disease!

Syria does not want peace. And if there is war, which I hope there is, Syria will be destroyed. Good for them. That is what they deserve.

46. The Golan
You have the history of Islam's relations and conflicts with Israel for the last 150 years. How can you possibly believe that returning the Golan or any other concession with Syria will bring peace to Israel?
