1. this is dumb cause his son is over 18
ghostq   (02.08.10)
so the father can't tell his son what to do with his life, even if he was against it, so the father shouldn't get the boot for other people choises in life.
2. Or maybe now we'll get fair objective reporting
Yitzchak ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (02.08.10)
...instead of the leftist slanted pro-palestinian anti-israel reporting that the Times is famous for!!!
3. The terorists are at it again
Joe ,   Israel   (02.08.10)
First suicide bombings then they use the english justice system and now the new york times. STOP GIVING IN TO TERORISTS
4. Times Bias Known Long Before This
Arik Silverman ,   Milwaukee USA   (02.08.10)
Many Americans stopped relying on the NY Times for objective Middle East reporting almost two decades ago, when the new publisher took over. We didn't have to know who anybody's relatives were, we just noted the changes in the way stories were written and compared them with foreign reports. There was a time when the Times wouldn't even assign a Jew to cover Israel for fear it might be thought biased, but its journalism ethics seem to have been flushed. Since we already don't look to the Times for decent Middle East news, this incident won't change anything for us. Besides, we don't need the Times given the amount of honest reporting in Israel's own papers.
5. You gotta read my comment...
(02.08.10)
The website "Electronic Intifada" , claims that Bronner cannot be objective in his reporting because of his son's military service. By the way, I did not add anything to this article accept quotations... What hipocracy....
6. Al Jazeera
R ,   Israel   (02.08.10)
Most of the Al Jazeera reporters have a connection to Muslims and Arabs so we may consider that they are unable to render a neutral viewpoint.
7. #4 You have exposed your blatant anti-semitism.
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (02.08.10)
"There was a time when the Times wouldn't even assign a Jew to cover Israel for fear it might be thought biased, but its journalism ethics seem to have been flushed." - So, suggesting that someone cannot be an honest reporter about Israel, just because of his Jewish faith, is "journalism ethics"? Ethics my a$$. This is blatant antisemitism. For your information Arik, Israel's biggest, most ferocious critics happen to be Jews: NY Times' own Thomas Friedman, Noam Chomsky, Richard Falk, Norman Finkelstein, Shulamit Aloni, Amira Hess, Gideon Levy, and plenty of others. Ethan Bruner is not considered a supporter of Israel either. And by the way Arik, according to your "journalism ethics", I suggest you should write to all the European news agencies operating in Israel and the Palestinian Authority, to stop employing Palestinian reporters and photographers since they are naturally biased in favor of the Palestinians and against Israel. Your "journalism ethics" should work on both sides you know.
8. NYT end product ?
DT ,   DT Israel   (02.08.10)
As long as he does not turn out like Rahm Emmanuel
9. Pro Palis are as hipocritic as ever, but I agree with them
(02.08.10)
The fact that 99% of the CNN, NYT etc. "journalists" reporting on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are Hamas/Hezbolla/Iranian operatives, quite similar to the Reuters "journalist" who posted doctored pictures during the Second Lebanon War, doesn't bother anybody? Aren't these scum biased? Regardless, I am 100% in support of REMOVING Bronner's son from the IDF since this fact will be used by NYT as a "proof" of its lack of bias. NYT has always been Anti-Israeli. Having an IDF "link" will allow NYT to intensify its anti-Israeli demagogy even more, while hiding behind a facade of "balanced" media, like in "how can you accuse us of anti-Semitism? One of our Bureau Chief's son serves in the IDF"! Yes, "free" the poor guy from the IDF and send him to the terror-loving, racist "journalists" in NY.
10. it's only the NY slime who cares
Ruri   (02.08.10)
an extreme left-wing red diaper doper paper no one cares about they have disgraced themselves innumerable times, starting with covering for Stalin on the Ukraine famine massacre, it's cover for the left every time, a dishonest Stalinist rag.
11. when the nytimes is so left to fire him, i hope he will find
israeli   (02.08.10)
a great job at the jpost.
12. Jobs and Objectivity
Elissa Weisberg ,   Kibbutz ketura,Israe   (02.08.10)
Can anyone be truly objective ?.Only someone who isn't Jewish not married to an Israeli and doesn't have a son in the Israeli army ????Even people who have never visited the region seem to think they can comment and take sides with what ever little information they may have gleaned from " objective sources " What should be considered here is the fact thaT mR bRONNER IS A PROFESSIONAL AT HIS JOB AND WRITES ACCORDINGLY .i AM A JEWISH iSRAELI TEACHER BUT HAVE TAUGHT ARAB Christians and Moslems and I am able to mark their essays objectively because I am a professional and my personal opinion has nothing to do with my work ! Let Mr Bronner do his job and do not be influences by non professional criteria or judgement
13. Hmm
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.08.10)
I wonder how many Palestinians have registered objections to the fact that the children of the so-called Palestinian "leadership" are educated in some of the finer schools and universities in Europe? Now there's a story worth pursuing.
14. The New York Times is caving once again to Arab pressure!!!
Barb ,   Bethesda, MD USA   (02.08.10)
His son, a 20 year old adult who makes up his own mind has chosen to conduct his affairs the way he has. Why should the father pay for it??!! Does the NYT expect journalists whose off-springs became addicted to drugs or alcohol to cease reporting about such subjects? Does the NYT expect journalists sons and/or daughters have joined far-left wing organizations not to report about political developments in the US? The New York Times has lost a sense of right and wrong by giving in to Muslim-Arab pressure.
15. NYT and Saudi Arabia
Robert ,   Karkur, Israel   (02.08.10)
It is very apparent that the MO of the NYT in judging who can or cannot work for them in Israel must deliver the same proof as is demanded in the VISA application for Saudi Arabia where you have to declare that you have no relationship with and relatives in Israel. Although this type of questioning is forbidden by law in the USA, the NYT apparently thinks it stands above the law.
16. All NYT stringers have connections
Shimon ,   Israel   (02.08.10)
If Bronner is removed, then all employees of the paper should be held to the same standard. If they have relatives that are Arabs or are in any of the terrorist groups, they should not be allowed to report.
17. Barb, #14, you jumped to conclusions
Hillel Wallick ,   Brooklyn, NY, USA   (02.08.10)
Did you read the article? The Times didn't cave. The Public Editor, Clark Hoyt, who has no editorial authority, wrote a nuanced column and concluded that Bronner should be re-assigned. The Editor-in Chief, Bronner's top boss, Bill Keller, disagrees. He has strongly stood behind Bronner and is NOT re-assigning him.
18. #7 'Jew" has nothing to do with it
Arik Silverman ,   Milwaukee USA   (02.08.10)
Yes, the NYT would not assign a Jew to cover Israel: that was their idea of journalism ethics, not mine. They also would not assign a gay to cover gay issues, nor anyone else who might be seen as having a personal interest to cover issues regarding that interest because they did not want to seem biased. The point is not "Jew" but assigning people to ANY issue who might have or might be perceived to have a personal interest that could bias their reporting. PS since this is about to roll off the online list of stories, I thought not to answer, but decided that maybe you need an explanation of journalism ethics.
19. #7 - "Stop employing palestinian reporters, photographers"
William ,   Israel   (02.08.10)
Well, that is how the French news agency received blatantly doctored video and stories regarding little Al-Dura, which according to forensic investigators, including Germans, was ruled as patently false. If anything, that incident only underscores the truth in Arik's comments which should be extrapolated to include any Arab working for any media service anywhere.
20. Bronner and The New York Times
Lois Cohen ,   Cherry Hill USA   (02.08.10)
This is so totally ridiculous! A 20 year old American citizen voluntarily enlists in the IDF. How many young Americans can you name who have done that? I can think of only one, but am positive there are many more. Then his well known journalist father at the New York Times is suddenly being forced to possibly change jobs because he can no longer be objective in his reporting. Thank you Mr. Keller for having a much more level head than Mr. Hoyt.
21. #18
(02.09.10)
khaled abu toame is a palestinian arab reporting in the ynet. should ynet dismiss him because they feel that he is biased pro palestinian? no! should al jazeera dismiss any palestinian or arab journalist reporting in gaza because they are pro hamas and hizbullah? no! if bronner wrote negatively about israel, would you still want him dismissed from the n.y. times? i guess your answer would be no! you impotent antisemite to boot. try not to hide behind your "oh so righteous jornalistic understandings" and your righteous argumants. they only point to the fact that you yourself are completely biased against israel and will begrudge any one, any journalist, the opportunity to wrote news reports that may be, just may be accurate about what israel is and what israel does. if the report is favorable, you'll scream "bias". if the report is unfavorable, you will scream "bravo". we all know your self righteous type. we are all too familiar with your type's mental reasoning. BUT WE DON'T BUY IT. SO, STICK TO POSTING YOUR INNANE PSEUDO INTELLECTUAL COMMENTS ON YNET AND LEAVE SERIOUS JOURNALISTIC ISSUES TO JOURNALISTS AND PROFESSIONALS WHOSE THINKING YOU MAY NEVER COMPREHEND, YOU IMBECILE AND BIGOT. hameed aboughaze, iranian
22. The "al Dura" affair
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.09.10)
was commented by Charles Enderlin , a French Jew . There was also another Jewish left wing journalist here from France , not so symphatic to our politics , also reporting in a high level paper . So being Jewish does NOT necessarely mean pro Israeli .
23. How about Taghreed Al Khodary ?
Toni ,   Boston   (02.09.10)
Will Electronic Intifada be consistent and ask for the reassignment of Taghreed Al Khodary?
