1. There is only one key issue: Do the Arabs accept
Eitan ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (02.09.10)
Israel's right to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people or not. So far, all indications, since at least 1920, suggest that the Arabs, Palestinian and otherwise, simply have not accepted Israel's right to exist and have not internalized that their on-going attempts to wipe it off the face of earth, through campaigns of wars or campaigns of terror, stand contrary to decisions of the League of Nations, United Nations resolutions and the simple universally accepted right of all peoples, including the Jewish people, to national self-determination and independence. Let us simply place the question directly to Palestinian Arab leaders and ask them to respond in Arabic: Do you or don't you accept Israel's right to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people; just a "yes" or "no" answer please!
2. Solve your own problems, Fatah, Hamas, Israel, Jordan, etc.
Rivkah   (02.09.10)
Keep the USA out of it. Please. We cannot afford anymore judgments from the Lord that are connected to Jerusalem. The USA must bow out of those conflicts.
3. Arab's must understand that not signing means no deal
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (02.09.10)
Abbas and other Arabs who negotiate with Israel need to understand that by not signing a letter of understanding or any formal acknowledgment of negotiations means that things go back to the start when a new government is elected. Bibi can not start talks where Olmert left them off, nor where Arafat ended with Sharon, as these points were refused by the Palestinians and the new government was elected with a different mandate. Also, until the Palestinians hold unifying elections and have a negotiator who speaks for all of them there can be no negotiations. Anything done now is either wasting time or being done with the hopes of whom ever is next will be able to start at the same point of Israeli concessions while denying any that the Palestinians have promised. So the whole thing is a no-starter
4. No. 1 You can call it whatever you like
Palestinian   (02.09.10)
1. You can call it a state of the democratic Jewish people 2. You can call it a state of the Belfour's (from Eng.land) offer of our homes to people who came/come from nowhere 3. You can call it a state of the immigrants from ..Ethiopia, Czechoslovakia, Russia, Poland .. 4. You can call it the state of the Haganah, Irgun, Lehi & Stern
5. to #4 lol arafat was Egyptan looks like you suffer
ghostq   (02.09.10)
from immigration as well. and there is no such thing as stern org, stern was a man not org, he was killed by the british, funny how all palis got the same source of info, which full of errors, cause translation is really bad, much like the violant riots in the 30's in Israel cause you thought the 1 of may jewish march was protest one, so funny how clueless you r.
6. #1 Eitan
Nour ,   Palestine   (02.09.10)
I suggest you view Dr. Salam Fayyad's presentation in Herzliya on youtube.com. It will help explain the official position of the PA and refute most of your accusations. I might respond to your post by simply saying it is actually Israel that has refused to recognize Palestinian suffering, our right to self determination, historic, national and human rights in our homeland. That is the crux of the matter. The Arab initiative was dumped and shat on by successive Israeli governments, obviously because Israel wants the land and *not* peace. This is something I've internalized a LONG time ago. A negotiated settlement is within grasp, but is it highly improbable given what kind of government the Israelis are willing to stomach.
7. "The Arab initiative" is brought up once again. Well,
Eitan ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (02.09.10)
The question that I posed in my post was: Can any of the Arab leader, Palestinian or otherwise, accept Israel's RIGHT to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people? The Arab initiative does not even go as far as recognizing the FACT that Israel exists. It propose that the Arabs WILL do so IF Israel meets certain dictated requirements placed by the Arab League, including the flooding of Israel proper with millions of Arabs. So far, of the two Arabs who responded to my post, as expected, neither is willing to come out and state the simple truth: That Israel does have the RIGHT to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people. This right, incidentally, is based on decisions taken by the League of Nations as early as 1922 and 1923 and resolutions taken by the United Nations in 1947 and 1949, and all of which are based on the universally accepted right of ALL peoples, including that of the Jewish people, to national self-determination and independence. The Arabs to this day have negated this right as applied to the Jewish people and have attempted instead to wipe Israel, the nation-state of the Jewish people, off the face of earth. This is the very core, the very essence of the Arab Israeli dispute, and they still try to divert attention to other elements of it instead of dealing with its radics, with its roots.
8. Nour - Israel has made several offers why were they declined
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (02.09.10)
Once you realize that Israel always offer to negotiate using the Arab Initiative and was denied the option to discuss any of it , then you will understand why no Israeli government has done anything with it. Even Oslo and the Road Map were declared dead by the Palestinian leadership. When will you have a government that is willing and is mandated to even negotiate peace?
9. "...several offers", all rejected:
Eitan ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (02.09.10)
1. 1937 - Peel commission to set up an Arab state, rejected 2. 1947 - UN resolution to set up an Arab state, rejected. 3 1948 to 1967 - West Bank, eastern Jerusalem, Gaza Strip, all under total Arab rule, yet no request to set up an independent state. 4. 1978 - Begin and Saadat offer for an autonomy to be turned in time to a state, rejected. 2005 - Gaza evacuation and opportunity for a state, rejected. 2000 - Barak and Clinton offer of a state, rejected. 2008 - Olmert with Bush's knowledge to set up a state, rejected. 2009/10 - Netanyahu call for a direct talk regarding a state, rejected. "The Arabs have never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity" for peace, and all because each of the options rejected included an independent nation-state of the Jewish people, as called for by the League of Nations of 1922 and 1923 and by the United Nations of 1947 and 1949. Face it: This is the essence of the dispute and not any other side show the Arabs try to manufacture.
10. The only state they will accept is one without Israel
Rojer ,   Paris, France   (02.09.10)
next door as an independent national home of the Jewish people. With such proposal no one could or would live. Realistically, they are simply not interested in and perhaps are not capable of governing themselves, period.
11. The israel Question.
peter ,   australia   (02.09.10)
Does israel accept the right for palestine to exist?Yes or No and what conditions is israel imposing ?
12. peter #11 unfortunately yes and two
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (02.09.10)
Unfortunately our government is being stupid and the answer is yes they have offered them a state several times. The number one condition is that they are not able to attack us. Since we already know that they have never fulfilled any of their previous obligations we require them to be demilitarized. The second is that they end their war on us. Meaning no moving of everybody that wants to overthrow our government to our country, no more territorial claims, no more incitement, no more lawfare. Those two conditions are what we demand. For the Arabs that neither is acceptable.
13. Peter # 11, why don't you read Eitan's list # 9?
(02.09.10)
14. # 1
Birdi ,   Israel   (02.09.10)
Eitan you dont really expect that Nours will answer your question.
15. #6 - Nour - the Arab initiative was unbalanced
William ,   Israel   (02.10.10)
The Arab initiative was rejected because it was unrealistic. It demanded 1967 borders, which is a non-starter. It demanded all "refugees" (quotes intended) to return to their "land" in Israel which is a non-starter. First, "pals" must prove somehow they owned the land, not just that they lived there. They must also prove they were not part of violent military actions, and are not part of the illegal economic migrants from the 1930s. While the Initiative did say Israel would have normal relationships with Arab countries, it spoke only of sovereign ones and not the terror proxies of Hamas and Hizbullah which could still enjoy support of Arab leaders, launch attacks on Israel freely. Israel would not be allowed to return fire as it would be considered an attack on a sovereign nation (hosting them). It was the same unblanaced nature of the Oslo Accords which "pals" try to mirror in their hudna agreements. "Pals" have a lot to do before they become a credible partner, let alone regular humans. And that includes ending the incitement and racist policies that brought their own utopia from 1999 to a grinding halt.
16. #9 Here are the facts mister
Nour ,   Palestine   (02.10.10)
FACT: Olmert / Abbas understanding was not rejected, but subsequently not followed -up on by Olmert who left office abruptly!!! FACT: The 2001 Camp David "offer" by Israel did not include Arab sovereignty over E. Jerusalem. Get your FACTS straightened up.
