1. Supposed the passports were real.
nero ,   nyc   (02.18.10)
The problems that Israel would face is the use of faked passports in violation of international law. But there is nothing wrong with the real passport holders joining the Mossad and taking actions to eliminate enemies of Israel. Of course they may have problem traveling abroad but they would be heroes in their own country and for the Jewish people. I would have been proud to be a member of the group.
2. Typical Israeli arrogance
Soothsayer ,   Planet Earth   (02.18.10)
which will be Israel's demise.
3. The World is a Better Place
Dallas ,   Canada   (02.18.10)
Anyone Westerner who would cry foul for ridding the world of this terrorist while ignoring the true evil of islamist violence on innocents is truly biased against the West is proclaiming their allegiance to the enemy. I totally agree with the content of this article. We have more important things to do, let's move on.
4. Amen!
Takan ,   Elat   (02.18.10)
5. It was probably his own people...like they did Arafat
D   (02.18.10)
6. was it worth it
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (02.18.10)
Perhaps Haber knows something we don't, but is hard to believe killing Mabhouh was worth it. Just like in the case of Arafat or Yassin, Mabhouh's death won't improve Israel's situation: Mabhouh will be replaced by someone more or less qualified.
7. Why now?
(02.18.10)
If indeed it was the Mossad, and granted this individual was a criminal as we know, why now would Israel decide to kill this person? The crime he committed was almost 20 years ago. Secondly the UAE has warmed to Israel recently and very recently at that having hosted the Deputy Foreign Minsister only a few days before the killing. Why after getting so far in establishing relations with the Gulf States would they want to risk it now after 20 years? One more terrorist dead, great, but at what cost? The crime committed here besides the murder is doing so on foreign soil without the permission of the UAE, to those who compare it to taliban assassinations by the US and UK in Pakistan, it's not the same as Pakistan promotes those targetted killings. Also altering foreign passports which are the property of foreign states is a serious crime. Israel has done this before, and why would they be so callous in doing so again.
8. No one's asking why Dubai hosted an admitted murderer6666
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (02.18.10)
I'm not prepared to "assume" that Mossad was behind this, as it has the hallmarks of a "false flag operation" by other parties who hoped to divert attention toward Israel. al-Madhouh made many enemies over the years, not least in the PLO, which has its own "intelligence" wing and its own hit men. What's NOT in doubt is that al-Madhouh was an admitted murderer, and up to his eyeballs in terror and weapons smuggling. He was an enemy combatant, but apparently free to roam the region. Why is no one asking what he was doing in Dubai and why Dubai itself tolerated his presence?
9. To #2
Gratified ,   USA   (02.18.10)
After all you now know about this Hamas leader, why would you make a slimy remark like that? The United States deems Hamas a terrorist organization. Israel is at war with Hamas. Israel won this battle. We, including YOU #2, are a little safer.
10. I agree! the skunk is dead that's what matters
Talula ,   Israel   (02.18.10)
11. #6 Justice is done
Yossef ,   J'lem   (02.18.10)
It is not the question to be replaced or not. It is a question of justice. This guy killed israeli, he deserved a death sentence. He has been killed with the same way he lived. This is the divine justice.
12. Everyone knows it`s Mossad, acknowledge it rather than hide
Ari   (02.18.10)
People writing there`s no proof it`s Mossad or that it`s a Saudi conspiracy are funny. How could anyone get his hands on the passports of six different Olim living in Israel? Only Mossad can do that, and they have already used European passports it in the past anyway. They`re trying to deny now because they probably did not expect the Dubai police to react so fast, and maybe they fear some European secret services may be able to identify the Mossad agents from their pictures. I`d find it more dignified if people just acknowledged Mossad did it, rather than desperately gesturing "no it`s not us". I mean, it gives a very bad image of Israel to be denying what everyone knows is true. Rather be dignified and silent than try to deny the obvious.
13. Can you believe this?
David ,   USA ISRAEL   (02.18.10)
The whole world is upside down because a criminal was given his due.. You would think they would be happy. It drives them crazy when Jews defend their people
14. JOB WELL DONE !
Mark ,   Israel   (02.18.10)
Hats of the Mossad for a job well done.....The enemies of Israel are terrified...And when you see the Jew haters and Israeli bashers going crazy then you know they got hit where it hurts.
15. IMHO Maboo was a much bigger fish than we all think !
Alan ,   SA   (02.18.10)
16. Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vardina   (02.18.10)
17. Good Riddance and Congratulations!
HSL ,   Kalmar, Sweden   (02.18.10)
Whatever was done in Dubai didn't only benefit Israel but the the whole Western society. While Western governments whose passports were used have to go through the motions and condemn Israel publicly they better be applauding and sighing with relief behind closed doors. Whoever carried out the hit, I thank you on behalf of all Israelis as well as the loud mouthed whining European countries who don't have the backbone to do whatever is needed. The world just became a little safer, and it is thanks to you.
18. Double Amen - 100% Correct!
Hesh ,   Bet Shemesh   (02.18.10)
And I never agree with Ynet
19. arabs frame israel
marcel   (02.18.10)
haber has finally written a reasonable article. All the olmerts and haaretz levy and shavit are agonizing over t his alleged mossah hit. Europeans are doing it publically so as to sooth their arab citizens who are blackmailing them. In private they are overjoyed. Now if haber could jettison oslo, and be central in looking at the world , he would confirm his improvement. or will he be like olmert's children who have the right, but are loathsome nonetheless, a daughter with machsom watch interfering with the idf, a son who advocated soldiers not serve in w. bank , another one who who avoided the idf altogether. No wonder that olmert who never did combat duties due to some injury, wanted to give back the west bank. it was in his and wife's bones. Dubai could have olmert or hamas--you want an israeli, take olmert.
20. Kol Ha Kavode to the hit team
David A. ,   Chicago< IL USA   (02.18.10)
I agree with the author. Target was eliminated, team got away safely. Successful mission eliminating an arch enemy and murdering terrorist. Reality is, we now live in a very camera saturated environment and almost impossible to not be caught on camera at some point - but only published after they got away. Kol Ha Kavode to everyone of this brave hit team, may Hashem shower them with His blessings.
21. Using real Olim's passport info was idiotic and unnecessary,
Abe Froman ,   NY, NY   (02.18.10)
22. You are missing the point...
(02.18.10)
Tactically the assassination is a success, but would anyone expect otherwise from the world class processional organization like the Mossad ? But that is all besides the point, what is important is the message that it sends to the rest of the countries who have weak or no diplomatic relations with Israel, and may be on the fence to improve representation. So what message is this telling them ? It sends a message that Israel wants peace, and good relations with its neighbors, but don't expect Israel to respect your sovereignty, which will bring you embarrassment, and fuel the hardliners position in the government who think that dealing with Israel is a mistake, or at least a headache they could do without.
23. Mabhouh will be forgotten before this crisis with GB
Ilan ,   Ariel   (02.18.10)
If the Mossad really was arrogant and stupid enough to use the passports of olim from Britain then it is hard to see how the killing of Mabhouh could be worth the diplomatic crisis it has created between Israel and Great Britain. And that is the definition of a screw-up, when the cost of success is greater than the benefit the completion of the mission.
24. Eitan Haber, have you ever heard of "retina scan"?
J.P   (02.18.10)
Dubai police chief has said, they have retina scan of all the suspects. If they travelled before, or, travel again, they will be arrested. It is very simple.
25. Israeli arrogance ?? Ha Ha
Don Rosenberg ,   Palatine USA   (02.18.10)
Your just jealous because Israel is a successful country and bigots like you can't stand it. Chew on that chump !!
26. The dogs will bark for a little while...
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (02.18.10)
And that's all that's gonna happen. The official Britain, Ireland, Germany and France will go through the motions of condemnation, this is a very grave matter, should be investigated, yada-yada-yada, there would be some headlines for about a month or so, and then the whole thing will pretty much be forgotten. A reasonable price to pay for the elimination of this bloody arch-terrorist, reestablishing our deterrence, and making active terrorists more concerned about keeping themselves alive than engineering terrorist attacks. The only downside is that British passports which are very handy for the Mossad's covert ops, could not be used again, as next time the fallout will be much more serious. The Mossad would have to wait another 20+ years to do that.
27. @24 - J.P. "retina scan" etc
eporue ,   europe   (02.18.10)
first, dubai police has to prove the guy was murdered, then that the retina-scanned-guys committed it. there is no proof of either yet. until this, they can be accused of document forgery. not more.
28. What a fool you are Eitan!
Wildmandxb ,   M.E.   (02.18.10)
So you think it's ok to kill this scumbag in this form? what's the difference between the way you think and the morons in Hamas? you think you're on the good side, same as they do, you think killing one of their masterminds is ok, they think that killing one of your leaders is ok as well. I have news for you Eitan, they have replacements. I don't think you gave it another thought before posting this silly article of yours. Very, very naive!
29. Yeeeeeeees!
leonhard ,   nürnberg, germany   (02.18.10)
He who lives by sword dies by sword. Easy and simple...Congratulation for these people whomever they are for terminating this scumbag. Long live Israel and her people!
30. #2 & #9
Len ,   Florida, USA   (02.18.10)
#2 is a dumbass. His tag line is planet earth, but he needs to live in Hamastan. A land with honor killings, intolerance, fratercide, jealousy, without fredoom, Jews, women's rights etc. A place that the dumbasses created. The Jews left Gaza---and they made themselves a hell. No one to blame but dumbasses like #2 who cheer their ignorance form a far. Ask yourself--why?
