No doubt that if a regional war(Syria, Hezbollah,Hamas and Iran) broke out , Israel would suffer damage. However, contrary to the hopes and wishes of Israel's enemies, these same groups and the nations of Iran and Syria would suffer more. Even without a nuclear component, Iran and Syria would know a destruction of their militaries and govt structures that would leave them vulnerable to a homegrown opposition and public anger at their pathetic performance. Hitting Israel with missles would leave Palestinians open to damage from said countries as the accuracy of weapons are at best unpredictable. Most of these countries population could not handle the results of all out war and it would be all out. Iran fought an 8 year bloody war with Iraq. Israel and possible the US are not Iraq.There is nothing in Irans experience to compare with modern professional warfare. Strutting and goosestepping on a parade field for their public won't cut it when the bullets, etc starts to fly. In Syria's case, the results won't be much better. Syria has been on the battlefield with Israel in the past, but by the same token, they have not done very well. The last time Syria fielded an army in war was in 1973. The 1982 tukeyshoot of Syrias air force did not include much in the way of groundforces. There again Israel has distinct advantage over Syria as well as weaponry. Having lost so many times psycologically undermines their forces. To Syrian Generals, Israel is still ten feet tall. Hezbollah has claimed to have beaten Israel in 2006, but the initial indecisiveness of the Israeli leadership at the time prolonged the outcome. However, ultimately, Hezbollah suffered a beatdown that they will not admit to for the obvious reasons. Hamas after Castlead is in no shape to do anyrthing but annoy. Hamas knows that if they joined in, in the fog of war Israel would not hesitate to crush their wobbling society to dust. They are still licking their wounds a year later. Also for Hamas with the duplicity in their neighborhood, any caos would give their opponents opportunities they don't have at the present. Better for everyone for this not to happen, but if worse comes to worse I would rather be in Israel than in any of these other places. Good Day.

The last time Syria and Israel were involved in a direct war when Israel bombed Syria was 1973. The Lebonese conflict 3 1/2 years ago was a huge wake up call for Israel. The IDF was slack for quite a few years prior to that conflict, and if Syria had been active then, Israel would have suffered huge losses. But ever since that conflict the IDF has made up for lost time, with it constant and systematic training of all forces, especially reservists! Living up north, I experienced that last conflict and I know that if Syria joins in next time, northern Israel will become Syria's firing range. And life will be very uncomfortable here for a few days. But do they not know what Israel will do to them, if they join the Hizbullah and attack? Are they not aware of the most effective actions taken by Israel during that last confrontation? The destruction of alot of Lebanon's infrastructures? And also are they not aware that Israel did all that with minimum effort, using a small percentage of it's strike force? Stupider than stupid...and such a shame, because I truly believe that the common Arab/Syrian/Lebanese is more interested in putting food on his table than killing Israelis.
