You make a good point. Palestine was to a large extent inhabited by sedentary communities of farmers with deep roots in the land. Farmers are not easily uprooted. It is more than likely that the present day Palestinian fellaheen/farmers are descendants from Christians, Jews or pagans before they were converted to Islam by the conquering armies that came from the Arabian peninsula in the 7th century. These Palestinian villagers actually preserved the old place names, that were hebraized by the naming committees of the State of Israel after 1948 in an attempt to disguise the Arab past. You are right that the original Hebrews propably looked much more like Palestinian Arabs than like white ashkenazi converts as Mr Hagai Segal.
