After a miraculous victory in 1967 (&1973) the Western world (and the US in particular) realized that the Arabs would never destroy Israel (which they were secretly hoping for), and they began a strategy of "aiding" (undermining) the state of Israel. But lucky for Israel, the US government is showing its true colors and shunning its "friend & ally" in front of the world. al-Zaha is referring to statements in the Qu'ran which denounce Jews claiming that Jews turned away from God and so lost His favour and now He favours Moslems.
