1. Obama is NOT America! Just hang on until we remove him
BJL ,   ussa   (03.26.10)
Bibi isnt doing anything wrong! He is standing up for Israels best interests. Obama on the other hand is an Anti-Jew arabist. Obama naturally is going to put the heat on Bibi because he wants a Palestinian state and frankly, no Israel. Bibi! We will get rid of him asap the American people are turning against Hussein Obama. Already he is at record low approvals! Hang on Bibi!
2. All Obama does is play games
A Nice Fellow ,   Montreal   (03.25.10)
Grow up, Mr. President.
3. Obama is America
Nikki May ,   Lebanon, USA   (03.26.10)
PLEASE, PLEASE do not group all Americans as one. Obama is not what most of us consider "our" leader. He has gone against the people of America. He has shoved his beliefs down our throats and has ignored the wishes of the American people. He and his government has slapped the real American in the face.
4. Americans do not play games?
Yonah ,   Toronto, ON   (03.26.10)
Obama is a master of lies and propaganda. +40% of Americans "strongly disapprove" of his leadership. Good on Netanyahu to defy Obama - keep it up, Obama will lose his legitimacy in November.
5. Jerusalem - The Eternal Bond
NormanF ,   Salida, USA   (03.26.10)
Yes... the US can sit down on Israel but Israel is still a sovereign country. There can be no compromise over Jerusalem. If Obama forces Israel to choose between Jerusalem and America, Israel's government will choose Jerusalem. This is a matter of national consensus. The days of the British White Paper will never return in Israel and no foreign diktat will ever sever the unbreakable eternal bond between the Jewish people and its capital.
6. At last, Israelis are starting to use their brains!
Saudi ,   Dammam   (03.26.10)
Thank You Obama. Your rudeness have made Israelis use their brains.
7. eccellent article
Jim ,   UK   (03.26.10)
A fully realistic analysis. quite honestly this would have happened with any president. israel has believed it could get away with anything. the flouting of other countries passports is just the tip of the iceberg. now they are being brought to heel and they have no plan b with this totallycrazu government if the palestinians are sensible they should sit back ignore the provocations and watch israel go into meltdown
8. Eitan, thank you. President Obama is America...
Michael Hess ,   Charlotte, NC   (03.26.10)
...and those that think he is not are currently on the rails themselves over in this country. The GOP thought they could whip the Tea Party into a frenzy, and nothing would get on them from doing so. Polling now shows that Tea Party candidates are likely to pull as much as 15% of the vote this fall from GOP politicians. The racism and the vitriol have now turned into domestic terrorism against Democrats. The GOP is painted with responsibility, with Glenn Beck et al. Now, since President Obama has kept about one hundred of his campaign promises including the major health care overhaul that the wingnuts predicted would never pass, it passed. The next day it was announced a major breakthrough in nuclear arms reduction between the US and Russia. Folks, you claimed he was a naive Chicago stuffed-shirt, and what you are witnessing is a virtuoso who has managed an amazing amount of triumphs in fifteen months. Keep slapping him. Go on.
9. 1,2,3,4
moshe ,   westchester ny   (03.26.10)
YOU ARE ALL NUTS. Netanyahu's purile and childish gestures are threatening Israels interests, even as he manipulates Israels Nationalist sentiments.
10. Obama Can -- and Will
Yes He Can ,   Washington DC   (03.26.10)
Eitan Haber's article is right on the mark. Bibi had better wake up fast or else Israel is going to be facing massive international pressure without US support. For years, Israel has taken the US for granted and thought it could get away with the outrageous growth of settlements in the territories. The jig's up. Those rightwing American Jews and Israelis who think that Obama's going to lose are deluded -- and would be well advised to read David Remnick's article this week in the New Yorker. He's gotten health care reform against huge odds, is on target to accomplish many other goals, and he'll take care of Bibi too unless he wises up.
11. man to man
haber   (03.26.10)
Haber, go back to the 6 million before the holocaust-here is the choice from bitter experience-- a) Learn self defence, arm yourself and maintain your watch independently b) Rely on the big state to protect you Germany was the big state. Six million of our brothers met a terrible fate. You refuse to learn from history that the US when it comes down to it will not protect israel period. Because you are a pacifist lacking courage like olmert, you mus tnot subject the nation of israel to fate of ovens. Arabs are not prepared for peace likely forever and if it wasn't israel, they would fight with someone else. To see a coward write articles like you, did rabin know what he was dealing with??!!
12. It's way past time for Israel to act like a sovereign nation
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.26.10)
Haber advises total subservience to Obama - the most hostile U.S. president Israel has ever faced. Not surprising, since Haber advised Israel to arm the PA terrorists. Haber's advice is never good. It's time for Israel to act like a sovereign nation and tell Obama to butt out of our business. No other nation has any problem saying this to Obama.
13. Obama is dealing with the REALITY not RHETORIC
AK ,   USA   (03.26.10)
@BJL, instead of being objective, you just join in the chorus of not facing reality of how to get the peace talks restarted
14. for all the Jew's who voted Obama
eli ,   sf ca   (03.26.10)
You betrayed your own family . Shame on you!!!
15. I'm sorry
Katharina Stevens ,   Raleigh, USA   (03.26.10)
What Obama did was a terrible insult to the PM and the nation of Israel. What Clinton said and Biden did a few weeks ago was shameful. On behalf of the American people, I apologize that we elected such ill-mannered idiots. ~Katharina
16. Don't include all Americans, because not all agree
EJM ,   USA   (03.26.10)
I am an American who loves Israel. I pray for your peace and safety. I don't like what I see our leaders doing to Israel, but they are making their decisions that many if not most Americans disagree with. So don't think all Americans are against Israel.
17.  EVER SINCE BIBI WAS NICE STOPPING THE WAR TO HONOR OBAMA
........DACON9   (03.26.10)
IT WAS EVER SEINCE OBAMA CAME INTO OFFICE AND IT HAS BEEN SINICE 1948 WHEN ISRAEL SHOWED kindness to the enemy...
18. It is about time
Tony ,   Houston, Texas   (03.26.10)
to have a president to stand up for what is right. You can't have your way all the time and never bite the hand that feed you.. Cheers!!
19. America's interests
Tony ,   Houston, Texas   (03.26.10)
come before any other country's interests even if it were Israel. If you have not noticed, it is not just the US that is angry at the Israeli policies, it is the entire world.
20. Obama denies being anti Israel
Mordechai ,   Boca Raton USA   (03.26.10)
He is anti Israel but he denies it because he knows the voters will punish him for it. Yes ignore his childlike demands. Congress will not go along with his anti Israel agenda. Every single Republican will side with Israel with enough support from the democrats to defeat any anti Israel action by Obama. After November Obama will be a lame duck with a Republican congress. The Republican congress will be to the right of Israel demanding more settlements.
21. AIPAC is not America
Gary ,   NY   (03.26.10)
Obama may not "be America", but neither is AIPAC. I am Jewish and, like most Jews support Israel (but also like most Jews, not unconditionally like AIPAC). It is time that Israel wakes up to the fact that at a time when we are undergoing the worst recession in 70 years and are in the middle of two wars (which are the result of muslim fanaticism borne in large part out of our support for Israel), and a multitude of other issues, the number of people who are against Obama on this particular issue (settlements) are very few indeed. Israel needs to tone down the arrogance and begin to recognize that America needs to act in its interests and that those interests are not always going to coincide with Israel. AIPAC is not America; it's not even America's Jews; just a vocal and wealthy group whose influence is being looked at more and more by the electorate with greater antipathy, and as a result will actually be become less and less influential. Message to Netanyahu: Pride go-ith before a fall.
22. I am ashamed of our government.
Dave Green ,   WA, USA   (03.26.10)
This administration appears to be purposeful in their arrogance and disrespect for our closest allies while selling us out to our enemies. Rest assured Israel, I and 95% of the people I know will be working hard to remedy this situation by voting someone into office that will "roll back the reproach" that has grown on us. Don't listen to the progressive plants who incite hatred such as Michael Hess above. The truth is, it is the progressives/marxists who are violent. Their downfall is coming soon. Marx mao words! Your friend, Dave.
23. It's important to remember
John ,   Boston, USA   (03.26.10)
Obama is simply demonstrating what has always been America's position. He's just accurately reflecting Americans' frustration with Israel over assuming they can do what they want since we are allies. America is committed to keeping Israel safe, but not at the expense of flouting international law and human rights. Play by the rules, it's that simple.
24. Hess, Don't You Remember Obama's J'lem Speech?
Dallas ,   Canada   (03.26.10)
Eternal and undivided. Remember? But now he hasn't bothered to set foot in Israel now that he's shown his true apologist colors. For a faux-Nobel-"Peace"-Prize winner before the face, Hussein in one year has singlehandedly set the "peace" talks back to pre-Olso times. It's a disaster and you seem to think this is victory? What are they putting in the water in Charlotte NC anyway?
25. Reply to #5 Norman F, USA
Mike ,   Portland, USA   (03.26.10)
Jerusalem is the capitol of Israel. It is no more the capitol of all the Jewish people, than the Vatican is the capitol for all Catholics. Israelis first loyalty is to their own country. American Jews first loyalty is to the U.S. We are not 2 co-terminous nations with co-terminous interests. U.S. Jews are mostly liberal voters.Israelis are mostly conservative voters.Kind of easy to tell the difference. It is clear that there is no united Jewish people with a single capitol or single allegiance. That's clearly a myth that some believe in....choosing to ignore the obvious. There are clearly reasons 78% of American Jews voted for President Obama, while only 4% of Israelis liked the idea of him becoming our president.
26. BJL, EVERY threat against President Obama is investigated...
Michael Hess ,   Charlotte, NC   (03.26.10)
...and I believe you just made one. You make three nonsensical claims: "Obama on the other hand is an Anti-Jew arabist." There is NOTHING to suggest that President Obama is "anti-Jew" - you are making it up. "Obama naturally is going to put the heat on Bibi because he wants a Palestinian state and frankly, no Israel. " A Palestinian state is in Israel's national interest or it will no longer be Jewish majority. And again, you are making it up when you claim President Obama wants "no Israel". That is a calculated yet stupid lie on your part. But finally you threaten to "get rid of" President Obama, calling him "Hussein Obama" in a pejorative way and you signed USSA. This implies that you are a flying wingnut and should be investigated as a possible real threat. After all, Democrats are being attacked with domestic terrorism right now. Tea Party GOP types who feel President Obama is a little too "uppity" for their liking. You are transparent BJL, like glass.
27. AMEN #1, end
Ron ,   Jamestown, USA   (03.26.10)
28. Haber is correct, but what is his prescription
Steve ,   boston usa   (03.26.10)
Obama is going to lean even more on Israel, because he sees no benefit to the alliance and feels no moral kinship. Hillary is an opportunist, always was. Israel needs to remember that before 1967it survived in more precarious circumstances and grew stronger without any umbilical chord to the US. Don't give up any land, restart the Lavi program and regain your self-sufficiency and self-respect.
29. A serious correction is needed here...
Paul ,   USA   (03.26.10)
Obama is not America ! He's the American President. The US Congress is where ( supposedly ), the American people are represented. If Obama had made his anti Israel feelings known to the American people, during his campaign, John McCain would be the President now.
30. Obama's support is Crumbling
Craig ,   L.A., USA   (03.26.10)
America is finally beginning to understand and abandon the Marxist oriented pro-Islamic charlatan who they elected. Israel...ignore this fool Obama and conduct yourselves with pride and confidence. Build where ever you damn well please...conduct negotiations on your terms, and don't suffer being dictated to by any leader.
