Great people. Let them be blessed with only good tidings in the future. Hope they accept the unwritten laws of tradition and always remeber that every man is he himself god.
2. You too can be a god and rule your own planet
Rami   (03.31.10)
Depending on how good you are you'll wind up in the terrestrial, telestial or celestial afterlife. It's all there in the sacred books, translated from Reformed Egyptian by serial child rapist Joseph Smith.
3. The Utah Jews should be offended
BJL ,   usa   (03.31.10)
If they only knew that the Mormons believe they are the true chosen people. The Mormons believe they will establish a New Jerusalem with a Temple in the state of Missouri. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zion_(Latter_Day_Saints)

(03.31.10)
They do not threaten anyone with death and destruction. There is no reason for being offended. As long as they are not making a mockery out of it or tell lies about the past.

Christy ,   Boston, US   (03.31.10)
But not every year, as the Mormons seem to do. I know of many congregations that have celebrated it, at least once, to get a better understanding of what Jesus and the earlier Christians celebrated. More and more individual Christians celebrate Passover in their homes. There's a big market for videos and books to explain the food and rituals. (I ordered a special Passover plate from Israel as a Christmas Gift.) Some of the Messianic Jewish congregations around here hold an annual open house (reservations required) each Passover. They invite all Christians, and non-Christians, to learn about and take part in the Passover. It's a wonderful learning experience and helps Christians, and non, have new reverence and meaning for Passover. Christians believe that Jesus celebrated Passover with his disciples just before his crucifixion, aka The Last Supper. Christians celebrate a portion of Christ's Last Passover/Supper through the ritual of Communion that Christians partake in throughout the year. However, I think it's wonderful to be able to understand the Jewish background to Passover, respect it for itself, and also to be able, as Christians, to put The Last Supper in context. I'm sorry if any Jews are offended by this. It's not meant to be anything against Jews. It's Christians trying to come more in contact with the Jewish Jesus and the, predominately, Jewish early church.
10. The more Xtians who celebrate Passover,
Zvi   (03.31.10)
... the fewer will be spreading traditional anti-Semitic blood libels. You can bet that the crazed Christian groups engaged in vicious anti-Semitic attacks today are not doing this. I don't mind Christians celebrating Passover. They'll do it in their own way, find their own meaning in it, and that's fine. It doesn't hurt us (Jews). And maybe it promotes understanding of Jews, just a little bit. The holiday is a reminder that anti-Semitism is an ancient evil (though it did not have a name until recently), that G-d objects strongly to the hatred of Jews, and that anti-Semitic tyrants like Pharaoh can be successfully opposed. It is a celebration of G-d-given freedom, and one that includes the words "next year in Jerusalem" - a reminder that for 2000 years, Jews have been yearning to return to Zion.

that there were ancient Hebrew traders who made it to the US....I belived this was substanciated by a University in CA who found some American Indian tribes had genetics of Mediteranian, and Eastern European which far predated the standard Europeans (Columbus etc.).

To say that there are messianic Jews is an oxymoron, period. For Christians to think that they can conduct a so called Seder without Jews present, and in doing so better understand their Jewish roots, is misguided at best. Pesach is a particularistic JEWISH FESTIVAL that is desecrated when adapted to serve other religious and political agendas. There are better ways to get to know us better - starting with dialogue.

Another post ynet would prefer to censor? The IRS understands the dangers of "imitation." It's counterfeitting and it deceives, misleads and hurts everyone duped by it. Where do you think Jzeus came from in the first place? 14. do missionaries and posthumous baptizing harm Jews
observer   (04.01.10)
Latter-day Saints, seeing themselves as physically descended from ancient Israel (primarily from the tribe of Ephraim), often feel a special kinship with the Jewish people, whom they sometimes refer to as "cousins" of "the house of Israel" of the tribe of Judah leading them to regard themselves and Jews as "two houses of Israel." In many respects this sense of kinship is reinforced when Latter-day Saints portray themselves as a new Israel, suffering persecution and wandering on the "Great Trek" in the wilderness until they came to an American "Zion." There is a growing "LDS effort to relate to Jews, not as an Old Testament tribe but as a living religious community." in 1995, LDS church stoped the practice of baptism for the dead applied in a wholesale manner to Jews (although reaffirming the right of individual Latter-day Saints to baptize their own direct ancestors). Mormon believe that Jesus Christ's Second Coming will be enhanced by preaching gospel to the Jews and many will be converted. That's why in 2000, Israel closed BYU Jerusalem Center. "The Mormon organization is one of the most dangerous, and in America they have already struck down many Jews. At the present the Mormons are cautious because of the tremendous opposition their missionary activities would engender, but the moment their new Center is completed, we won’t be able to stop them." said Kol Ha’Ir.

It says in the Hagada: "Kol Dechfin Yetey Veyechol", which implies, It does not specify that only Jews should join to the feed, it says "Kol Dechfin", meaning, anybody should be able to join to the table and eat!

17. #12 - This is how they refer to themselves
Christy ,   Boston, US   (04.01.10)
"To say that there are messianic Jews is an oxymoron.." They are born Jews and have become Christian. I was using the name they give themselves. This is something to be taken up with them. " ...desecrated when adapted to serve other religious and political agendas." There is no agenda other than celebrating the Jewish Christ's Last Supper the way He, and His Followers, did. The Jewish Roots of Jesus, and Christianity itself, are being more explored by today's Christians. There is no ulterior motive. We just want to understand the Jewish Jesus better. It was started, decades ago, by Messianic Jews who wanted to educate Christians about the Jewish roots of Christ and the Early Church. It started small and has grown. It's not an 'In Your Face' type deal - at least I've never seen it this way. Most people are probably not aware of it because it generally gets no press outside the Christian Press. We aren't trying to be Jews, imitate Jews, or influence Jews. We're just trying to recreate what Jesus' Last Supper (Passover) was and experience it.
18. Mormons Have Some Different Beliefs
Christy ,   Boston, US   (04.01.10)
What they believe about Jewish Tribes coming to America, etc., is NOT what mainstream Christians believe. When mainstream/Evangelical Christians try and recreate the Jewish Christ's Last Supper, there is no thought that we do so as Jews. We don't turn into Jews, won't replace Jews, etc.. We celebrate Christ's Last Supper (Passover) as Christians trying to do what Jesus did just before His Death and Resurrection. No replacement theology, or long-lost Tribe beliefs.

Luke ,   Philadelphia, USA   (04.01.10)
As a mormon i remember attending a couple passover type dinners growing up where we were just taught the jewish customs. I remember it was just to educate us on what others believe and what their customs are. I also know a few members who did convert to mormonism from Judaism. It is not any kind of replacement theology. That's the first time i've heard of that. We do believe in different things such as jewish decendents migrating to the americas but we do not think we are Jewish nor do we think we'll replace them like you suggested. That just sounds wierd.
20. Mormons pretending to be Christians AND Jews
(04.02.10)
I guess if they feel they can do what the established major faiths do, that will legitimize them. However they are just fraudulent fringe wannabees co-opting the pasts of others as their own.
21. #19 - Replacement Theology
Christy ,   Boston, US   (04.02.10)
In trying to respond further to some of the objections raised by #12 "...desecrated when adapted to serve other religious and political agendas.." I was trying to cover all bases this TBer and others may have. I can see what I wrote as ALL being assigned to Mormons. That wasn't my intent. I was just trying to be brief. I honestly don't know a great deal of Mormon Theology, but I do know there's a part that states Jews reached America long before others, except Native Americans, did. How this belief impacts the Mormon celebration of Passover, I don't know. However it impacts, I'm sure the Mormons have no bad intentions, or political motivations regarding the Jews. Replacement Theology didn't come from the Mormons. The Mormons are probably just trying to recreate Christ's, and the apostles', Last Supper/Passover together. Replacement Theology in essence says that the Christian Church is the new Israel. The Jews are replaced by Christians. From what I've read it seems to have been developed by Christians who did not take God at His Word. They didn't believe Israel was going to be re-created and settled again by Jews. I've never met one Christian who believes in Replacement Theology. I only heard about it as I've been on the web. It comes up every so often on Jewish websites that I read, so I assumed it may be something poster #12, or other Jews, may have in mind when they read about Christians celebrating Passover. I was trying to state that as far as the evangelical/mainstream recreation of Christ's Last Supper goes .. there is no thought or desire to replace Jews, usurp their place with God, nor is there a belief we become Jews. No political motivations. No thought of desecrating Passover. No thought of stealing it from the Jews. Nothing except recreating Christ's Last Supper, which was Passover.
22. Christy...there is genetic evidence that not all
Le' Faux Jew ,   US   (04.02.10)
Indigenous American Indians crossed the Siberian land bridge. Some were Eastern European, and Mediterranean. Thats why I posted the information about Dr. Cyrus Gordon from Brandeis U / formost scholar(blessed be his soul), who believed that ancient Hebrew traders came to America.
