31. Israel Security
ben Tzion ,   Chicago,BGALUT,USA   (04.08.10)
I think Anat Kam and Uri Blau should suffer the justice that Lohamei Herut Israel (LEHI) would have provided them in pre-State Israel.
32. She did the right thing
Ronen ,   Ramat Gan   (04.08.10)
Orders that are calling for crimes against humanity must be exposed. Isn't the "shoot to kill policy" forbidden by Israel's own laws?!.
33. Anat Kam - enemy of the State
Spencer ,   Israel   (04.08.10)
The fact that the IDF were negligent in allowing low ranking soldiers access to confidential army material is no justification in stealing it and compromising Israel's security. This woman should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law as should all those who were involved with her and they should go to prison for a lengthy period.
34. Haaretz
Mike ,   Israel   (04.08.10)
Haaretz must be one of the most anti Israel newspapers I have ever seen. In addition it is one of the few Israeli English language newspapers and as such is given disproportionate weight overseas. Surely there must be some way to shut them down without damaging Democracy and freedom of the press.
35. #26, What's illegal about assasinating someone who is . . .
Stewart ,   U.S.A.   (04.08.10)
trying to kill you and your people. Sounds like a pretty rational self defense stategy to me.
36. It's the media's obligation to report crimes by their state
Gil ,   IL   (04.08.10)
If you don't understand that you don't understand democracy. A free press is essential in preventing IDF in implementing orders that constitute crimes. This is not about security, it's about IDF fearing to be charged for war crimes and similar due to the evidence provided by the written orders.
37. If the allegations are true, it's a big shame
Vladimir ,   Jerusalem   (04.08.10)
In any other normal country like the former Soviet Union she would be publicly tried, disgraced and executed. Scharansky can tell you what it means to be accused of espinage.
38. forwarded the materials to a journalist and not to hostile e
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (04.08.10)
Haaretz is one of the most hostile elements in Israel.
39. in the end she will get what she deserve.
Yevgeni   (04.08.10)
hhhhhh
40. The scandal is not that she stole the IDF files
Insider   (04.08.10)
The real scandal is that the IDF files provide written evidence that soldiers are ordered to commit crimes.
41. #21-Must be your fertile imagination..
Yosef Levy ,   Tel Aviv   (04.08.10)
just like the Dakar being some kind of "payback" for the sinking of the USS Liberty.
42. Send some copies to Goldstone
The Hague   (04.08.10)
More evidence that IDF command sanctioned war crimes.
43. to #25 thank you finally someone see
ghostq   (04.08.10)
the truth, send all the Brits diplomates from Israel back to Europ.
44. #37: If the orders are true, it's a big shame for Israel
Observer   (04.08.10)
45. Shooting the messenger again?
Concerned Citizen ,   Israel   (04.08.10)
Who gave the order? Can I get a copy of it?
46. Leftist acussed of espionage.Wow surprise!?
Ana ,   USA   (04.08.10)
ha, ha. You sleeping in the bed you made, full of you know what.
47. #32
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (04.08.10)
Today, Nobel Prize Winner Barack Obama ordered the CIA to murder American citizen Anwar al-Awlaki by any means necessary. I think Kam should be thankful that she is Israeli and the worst that will happen is a few years in prison.
48. #30
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (04.08.10)
What did Kam get? Money and a chance at a cushy job as a journalist. Why do you think she kept 2000 more documents? That way she could have a steady stream of articles. Blau is Kam's handler. He is in England because he wants to avoid arrest. The interesting thing is whether he published the information from greed or because he worked for MI6. If the British grant him asylum we will know the answer.
49. 'Soldier-spy stole IDF files'
Issy Dykman ,   Israel   (04.08.10)
Kam committed treason and should be tried in courtmartial. She was in a position of trust and abused it. The Shabak should check out how and why she was accepted to work in such an important and delicate job. Most probably "protekzia" was used to get her the job.
50. The real story is ignored by the wingnuts
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (04.08.10)
The real story is that the Shin Bet and IDF apparently conspired to violate, and did violate, a court order issued by the Israeli Supreme Court. And that the facts of such agreement were put in writing and then stamped 'Top Secret' not to ensure any 'security' but rather to cover-up the violation and thereby avoid both embarassment and possible legal sanctions. This is a copy of Daniel Ellsberg's release tof the Pentagon Papers showing the duplicity of a government and its agencies, not for 'security' but rather to prevent embarassment. The heads of the Shin Bet and the IDF should be facing charges, not the reporter.
51. #50 Well said, Mikesailor. Anat Kam is a courageous woman.
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor   (04.08.10)
For me too she is a Daniel Ellsberg of the 21st century, a heroin. For her the rule of law and moral values are rightly more important than maintaining a shameful silence and be complicit in a state crime. She is to be admired for that. If I would discover that state officials in the Netherlands were involved in illegal and criminal activities - top secret or not - I would not keep my mouth shut either.
52. If files show that IDF systematically broke the law
Justice   (04.08.10)
then it is the IDF officers that must stand trial and Anat is a hero that deserves the Publitzer prize.
53. Treason Pure and Simple
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (04.08.10)
Treason Pure and Simple documents were classified and also not all of the document info was released. Wasn't pollard also jailed in the US for trading documents? http://ralphsrant1.blogspot.com
54. #51 All thieves and lawbreakers are 'courageous'
Jake   (04.08.10)
It takes courage to steal and leak 2000 classified documents containing all manner of sensitive information on people's identities that are now in the hands of Israel's enemies....just as it takes courage to rob a convenience store: You might succeed, then again, you might caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
55. Mikesailor I appreciate you being honest about yourself
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor, UK   (04.08.10)
Like you I have been looking for a long time for a way to express my strong disgust of Jews without facing criminal charges in the UK and Ynet is an excellent site to do it. You and I are of the same kind of special individuals and should band together until we finish what was started 70 years ago and left unfinished 5 years later.
56. No Principles: Boycott Haaretz !
Roland Seener ,   London England   (04.08.10)
57. # 56
Birdi ,   Israel   (04.08.10)
Right, Roland. I would'nt clean my windows with Ha"aretz !!
58. Boycott Haaretz
Roy ,   Miami   (04.08.10)
They cross the line here.
59. Shut Haaretz down,it's undermining the state
YSL ,   Jerusalem Israel   (04.09.10)
This newspaper's sole purpose is to undermine the state of Israel. It should be investigated whether it receives funds from foreign government's to smear and undermine Israel at every opportunity.
60. Lonon has become a haven for Israeli juoranalists
Danny Toren ,   Haifa Israel   (04.09.10)
Journalists who write anti Israeli articles for The Guardian. There is a whole group of Israeli writers who have moved to London, where it's easier for them to smear Israel in foreign newspapers.Bloody traitors.
