1. EVEN liberal Wiesel understood that Barack HUSSEIN Obama
the historian   (04.17.10)
is a borderline antisemite and gets all he knows on the Middle East from Arab/Muslim sources. He never got ANY of these: http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2010/04/when-muslims-bargained-away-jerusalem.html http://www.mythsandfacts.org/Conflict/3/Jerusalem.pdf

3. It was inevitable: Jerusalem once again is the center of ...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (04.17.10)
... political debates and international storms. New and old tensions surface at a disturbing pace. Seventeen times destroyed and seventeen times rebuilt, it is still in the middle of diplomatic confrontations that could lead to armed conflict. Neither Athens nor Rome has aroused that many passions. For me, the Jew that I am, Jerusalem is above politics. It is mentioned more than six hundred times in Scripture—and not a single time in the Koran. Its presence in Jewish history is overwhelming. There is no more moving prayer in Jewish history than the one expressing our yearning to return to Jerusalem. To many theologians, it IS Jewish history, to many poets, a source of inspiration. It belongs to the Jewish people and is much more than a city, it is what binds one Jew to another in a way that remains hard to explain. When a Jew visits Jerusalem for the first time, it is not the first time; it is a homecoming. The first song I heard was my mother’s lullaby about and for Jerusalem. Its sadness and its joy are part of our collective memory. Since King David took Jerusalem as his capital, Jews have dwelled inside its walls with only two interruptions; when Roman invaders forbade them access to the city and again, when under Jordanian occupation, Jews, regardless of nationality, were refused entry into the old Jewish quarter to meditate and pray at the Wall, the last vestige of Solomon’s temple. It is important to remember: had Jordan not joined Egypt and Syria in the war against Israel, the old city of Jerusalem would still be Arab. Clearly, while Jews were ready to die for Jerusalem they would not kill for Jerusalem. Today, for the first time in history, Jews, Christians and Muslims all may freely worship at their shrines. And, contrary to certain media reports, Jews, Christians and Muslims ARE allowed to build their homes anywhere in the city. The anguish over Jerusalem is not about real estate but about memory. What is the solution? Pressure will not produce a solution. Is there a solution? There must be, there will be. Why tackle the most complex and sensitive problem prematurely? Why not first take steps which will allow the Israeli and Palestinian communities to find ways to live together in an atmosphere of security. Why not leave the most difficult, the most sensitive issue, for such a time? Jerusalem must remain the world’s Jewish spiritual capital, not a symbol of anguish and bitterness, but a symbol of trust and hope. As the Hasidic master Rebbe Nahman of Bratslav said, “Everything in this world has a heart; the heart itself has its own heart.” Jerusalem is the heart of our heart, the soul of our soul. - Elie Wiesel

for Jews christians & muslims to pray for the wisdom of our leaders....even Obama... whom at this point in history Iam at odds with.....ultimatly the prophecies of the scripture will be fullfiled....it is also extremly important that the people of Israel place thier soul trust in G-d and his word in the Tanach for the book says that trust will be put to the test in the time of the end.....

6. Jews' preaching or breaching?
observer   (04.17.10)
Jerusalem is not mentioned in the Torah of Moses even once, while there are thousands of Muslim stories about Jerusalem, and Jerusalem is the place of Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Quran 2:133; (Had you witnessed Jacob on his death bed; he said to his children, "What will you worship after I die?" They said, "We will worship your god; the god of your fathers Abraham, Ismail, and Isaac; the one god. To Him we are Muslims.) Jews say: "God's promise is certain; but our sins prevent the fulfillment of the promise. Therefore we still look forward to it until we have atoned." if God's promise rested on our righteousness, or fell with our sins! That is tantamount to saying that God would have to become a liar because of our sin, and conversely, that he would have to become truthful again by reason of our righteousness. How could one speak more shamefully of God than to imply that he is a shaking reed which is easily swayed back and forth either by our falling down or standing up? The promised land is a loaded term, the promised land is anywhere where the righteous faithful lives. The term Zion has at least four meanings having to do with two different parts of Jerusalem, with Jerusalem itself, but also generally talking “about the people of Israel who viewed Jerusalem and the Temple as their religious center.” So while one hand holds Zion as a place, the other hand holds it as a people. The One G-d's promised land goes beyond our terms, our limiting to it.
7. what's in a name.......
tiki ,   belgium   (04.17.10)
Not because Arabs are living in East Jerusalem, does it make it an Arab city, just as Chinatown in New York/San Fransisco are not China but Amerika. Jews are Jeusalem (J & J), Muslim are Mecca/Medina (M & M & M).......,this is NO coincidence!
8. Jerusalem, Mecca and Medina.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (04.17.10)
Judaism has no designs on Mecca or Medina and does not wish to deny religious rights to Muslims in those or any other city. Indeed, Jews don’t seek to deny Muslims the right to pray at their third holiest place - the Aksa Mosque. Rather, they are simply asking that Jews be allowed to pray on their holiest of sites. The Muslims vehemently deny any Jewish rights to the Temple Mount - in their eyes the First and Second Temples never existed - and militantly pursue exclusive rights of religious worship there. You invitation to Elie Wiesel to visit East Jerusalem with a representative of an Anti Israel organisation is a cheek! Perhaps YOU should visit Jerusalem and let Elie Wiesel show you around. You might learn something!
10. "Why not leave the most difficult, the most sensitive issue,
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (04.17.10)
for such a time?" asks Elie Wiesel in his letter to the President whose entirety I posted above. The answer is simple: Obama is here temporarily, be it additional two and a half years or even six and a half years. But Obama, like many other politicians, assumes that he can where others failed, thus his drive to prove something. Whether he can or can not time will tell, but it is so obvious, he takes no account of the Jewish people, its history and its affinity to neither Jerusalem nor to other parts of the country. Instead of delving into the issue but not as a politician, he acts based on the conviction in his own slogan: Yes, we can. This, sadly, is a shallow way to view history and show respect for the people who have played their roles in it.

Israel became a nation in 1312 BC. 2000 years before the rise of Islam. Arab refugees in Israel began identifying themselves as part of a Palestinian people in 1967 two decades after the establishment of the modern Jewish State. Since the Jewish conquest in 1272 BC. the Jews have had dominion over the land for 1000 years with a continious presence in the past 3,3000 years. The only Aranb dominion since the conquest in 635 lasted no more than 22 years. For over 3,3000 years, Jerusalem has been the Jewish capitol. Jerusalem has never been the capitol of any Arab or Muslim entity. Even when the Jordainians occupied Jerusalem, they never sought to make it their capitol & Arab leaders did not come to visit Jerusalem. Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in the Torah, the Jewish Holy Scriptures. Jerusalem is not mentioned even once in the Koran King David founded the city of Jerusalem.Mohammed never came to Jerusalem. Jews pray facing Jerusalem. Muslims pray with their backs towards Jerusalem.
14. To 6 If that is the case, why is Jerusalem a Hebrew word?
The Dude   (04.17.10)
Jerusalem or Yerushaliem, is actually written numerous times throughout the scripture. You are just blatantly lying. But onto the point, the word Yerushaliem means literally "To see complete or to see whole". I don't think a city that would be that unimportant to the Jewish religion would be named as such... simply pathetic on your part
15. When people stop declaring
Sagi   (04.17.10)
cities and places "holy" it might be a small start on the road to peace. Jerusalem is just another place on this earth where people live and wish to get on with their lives. It belongs to those who live in it and there is nothing "holy" about it or any other pile of stones on this planet. Why is Winchester not "holy" to the British or Montgomery or Richmond "holy" to the Americans, or Kiev "holy" to the Russians. These names were not chosen at random. There is a reason for each one and that reason is very similar to the reason for declaring Jerusalem as "holy".

if Abraham, Jacob, Ismail, and Isaac were Muslims, then certainly David was Muslim; all of them were prophets of Islam. Moses being prophet for Jews doesn't negate that Jews existed before Moses. Make electronic search, for the word Jerusalem, in the text of the five books (Pentateuch) of Moses before bubbling idiocy to the people.
18. is the bible log book record of real state property?, then;
observer   (04.17.10)
For Scripture records that Ishmael, Abraham's son, became a great nation, that he begot twelve princes, also that the six son of Keturah (Genesis 25:1), possessed much greater areas of land than Israel. And undoubtedly these observed the rite of circumcision handed down to them by their fathers. Jews carry the Books but do not carry the Scripture out.
19. "Why is Jerusalem a Hebrew word?" In fact, there is
David Uziel ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.17.10)
no name to Jerusalem in Arabic but "al-Quds", the holy one, and that only after it became a holy place for Jews and then Christians.
20. Jaru+salem is not Hebrew Jaru =Sheru like Bu-sher
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (04.17.10)
Jaru mean Sher that is City in Persian in fact Bu-Sher city of Iran and many other cities use Sher and taken from Persian in Turkey we also use sher as Jar in Jar-u-salem that is city of peace So Jar-u-Salem is PERSIAN You may pack your valises as you are in a wrong city! God promised to you EDEN but not palestine, in religious texts it is written EDEN will be established in Middleast. Zionist wrongly misinterpreted promised EDEN as if already existing Palestine.
21. mr wiesel, you really lost it...

i know, what obama will say to eli wiesel in the white house... and mr wiesel will leave very ashamed, feeling utterly stupid. that wont be an introduction into rocket science, no - but into simple logic. you have to stop those right-extremists. they destroy israel. dont let them talk in the public anymore. stop this. this is initiated by bibi and his fully unintelligent advisers. thats why he doesnt say or do anything... this man destroys you. dont you see, what the effects of those ads are - and bibis non-action ? lets wait, what mr wiesel will tell after his WH meeting... a real challenge to find the right words... stop this.

25. AND JESUS WEPT OVER JERUSALEM
Tony ,   abuja   (04.17.10)
I am not a Jew, but Jesus talked about Jerusalem in Luke 13: verses 33-35 and many other chapters of the Bible/Scripture. 33Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. 34O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! 35Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Jerusalem is mentioned more than 700 times in the Bible/Scripture. Psalm 102:21 To declare the name of the LORD in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem; Psalm 116:19 In the courts of the LORD's house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye the LORD. Psalm 122:2 Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem. Psalm 122:3 Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together: Psalm 122:6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Psalm 125:2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever. Psalm 128:5 The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life. Psalm 135:21 Blessed be the LORD out of Zion, which dwelleth at Jerusalem. Praise ye the LORD. Psalm 137:5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. Psalm 137:6 If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy. Psalm 137:7 Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof. Psalm 147:2 The LORD doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel. Psalm 147:12 Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion. Ecclesiastes 1:1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. Ecclesiastes 1:12 I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem. I fear obama's adventure. He has refused to listen to the voice of reason. Power is might? Well, no one ever fights with the Almighty God and wins the battle. Leave obama alone. The battle is between him and the Lord God of Host. We shall see the winner. O Israel, rest on the Lord your God. For it is a fearful thing to fall into the wrathful hands of the Lord

28. To 17 You need to refine your READING comprehension
The Dude   (04.17.10)
English comprehension is regarded to every aspect of the English language. From understanding written texts to rhetorical speeches and everything in between. Here we are only communicating via text, hence in your case you need to improve you reading comprehension. But onto your point, I have gone onto the Hebrew Bible online (in English) and searched Jerusalem as you have stated and here is what I have found. http://www.mechon-mamre.org/e/et/et0.htm http://www.google.com/cse?cx=003922636974222575695%3A8f0kdrh08aq&ie=UTF-8&q=Jerusalem&hq=inurl%3A%2Fe%2Fet%2F&sa=+Search+ Just looking at the first page which has ten different links and ten more pages with these link references, it means at minimum there are 100 references to Jerusalem in the Torah at MINIMUM! "You have stated and I quote Jerusalem is not mentioned in the Torah of Moses even once" I have shown you completely and irrevocably wrong! EPIC FAIL
29. To 27 You mean like Jaffa? Which is also a Hebrew Word?
The Dude   (04.17.10)
Or better stated an Arabization of the the Hebrew word/name Yafo/Yaffa or 'pretty'. Or all the other cities you just made up names for recently? Like Eilat? What is the Arab name for Eilat? Oh wait, that is a completely new city and does not have an Arabic name. Actually most Israeli cities don't. The only exception is Tel-Aviv which has some really weird word. But is strange simply on the basis that Tel-Aviv is also a new city. All the old cities like Shechem, Hevron, and so on are all old Hebrew words...generally also containing sites of major Matriarchs and Patriarchs of Judaism.
30. Hebrew; so what?
observer   (04.17.10)
Yero-Salem is the city of Salem. It is in Hebrew; so what? the Israelites spoke Aramaic & Hebrew and they were Muslims in the first place (read talkback #6). carved on the Acre crusader coin (1230) in Arabic : Allah (God) is One, Faith is One, the Worshiped (God) is Uniting. Where were the Jews then?: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Crusader_coin_Acre_1230.jpg
