1. Imaginative yet nonsense
FreedomLover-People ,   Jew Lover   (04.23.10)
“For the second time in modern history, the Jewish people is facing an existential test.” May G-d of Israel open your eyes, give you foresight. You will hate what I say and may be not publish. But the Existential Threat to Israel and Jews is every tear that drops from a Palestinian child’s, wife’s, helpless man and woman eyes who’s home you possess, own, bomb and destroy. Who you deport, assassinate. The existential threat isn’t Iran, Ahmadi-mad, it is Nathanyahoo, Liberman, Livini - her Operation Elect Livini (Cast lead) and the like. Those, that in the name of security, your supremacy, for decades and decades, did what they could to destroy others, not understanding that every bullet that you fire, every person that you kill has its effect on your destiny. The cause and the effect, everything in this Universe is connected. The result, today you sit on a couple of hundred atomic bombs, yet you are the most insecure. Have you ever heard Ahmadi-mad talking of existential test. I don’t want you to leave Palestinian Land, all I want is for YOUR G-D to pull the veil from your eyes for you to see how, following in the foot steps of European politicians and Culture, you are bent upon self destruction through destroying others. Will G-d of Israel ever be so kind to you as to just let you see and comprehend. Oh, how I wish you could be the LIGHT unto Others.
2. Preventive War on Iran is Illegal
Ilene ,   Washington, USA   (04.23.10)
Indeed. The decision may result in the complete isolation of Israel from the rest of the world, with Russia and China on Iran's side.
3. Best choice
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (04.23.10)
Hopefully Netanyahu and Barak will wake up from all the disinformation. No matter what, Israel cannot stop the Iranians, only set them back a little. An attack would strengthen the Ayatolla regime and damage the world economy for which Israel would be blamed and internationally isolated. Iran would attack Israel from Lebanon and Gaza and thanks to the failed Kadima Regime and Goldstone, Israel won't be allowed to defend herself. On the other hand, if Israel does not attack Iran, as long as Israel holds Judea and Samaria, the worst Iranian attack will be harmful but not deadly. As soon as the Iranians have nuclear weapons, they will dominate the Arab world. The Americans will then be forced to fight to protect their Arab puppets. With Egypt under Islamist rule, Turkey allied with Iran, and Putin happily watching from the side, Israel will be the only useful ally the Americans have.

6. #2, we sure know whose side youre on..
Jake ,   USA   (04.23.10)
The war is already in full-swing, it just isnt being played out in front of cameras yet. An all-out confrontation is inevitable. Every war America has fought, has been "preventative", you have some nerve lecturing Israel.
7. Good Timing
Robert ,   USA   (04.23.10)
Good article and in site for such an important decision for State of Israel. Everything is in place and I pray for Israel to grow in land for them and the protection of the Jewish people. Their strength and courage is most important in these times and I stand with Israel for ever!
8. The alternative would be far worse
Brod ,   USA   (04.23.10)
It is a tough decision. But the alternative would be far worse for Israel. It is a decision that has to be made in defense of the Nation of Israel. A country ruled by fanatical Islamist-Jihadists who have threatened repeatedly to annihilate Israel and are feverishly working on their nukes to accomplish their evil intention, Iran has become the new Nazis-in-the-making. When nukes are mixed with fanaticism, the combination is lethal for the region and the world.
9. No weapon forged against you will prosper...
Neil Turner ,   Watford, UK   (04.23.10)
A fascinating article - thankyou The God of Israel knows precisely when this moment will be He will watch over you to prosper and defend you Nothing takes Him by surprise, and He sees precisely what your enemies are doing in secret You are nor on your own, though you may often feel that way. He is with you, and you have many Christian friends around the World who hold you in prayer As Watchmen, we stand guard with you, and pray the Lord keeps you in the palms of His hand

12. "Weeks, months or years later"
Sagi   (04.23.10)
If Israel attacks Iran I have my grave doubts as to whether these "weeks or months or years" will be relevant to a non existent Israel. The retaliation for such an attack will be instantaneous with immediate "jumping on the wagon" by Syria, Lebanon and Gaza plus activation of dormant internal fifth column organizations. Call me defeatist if you will, but I believe it will be the end and others will be writing our epitaph in the hallowed world media that loves us so much. The looney left with their policies of appeasement will never bring peace. Likewise the extreme right will do no better. I do not propose a middle of the road approach, in fact I believe with ardent sincerity that the only solution will be one of total capitulation by one of the sides. Given that this will never happen, because the fervour is Messianic driven, on both sides, we shall have stalemate with constant "minor scruffles" until the "big one" comes. It is coming in the shape of the Iranian A bomb and a pre-emptive attack by us, or US will only aggravate the situation more and with or without the bomb we shall find ourselves in a war out of which we shall not emerge unscathed or indeed in a position to continue in a viable fashion. Pessimistic, yes. I also believe, realistic. Just my opinion.
13. # 5 Chris
Sagi   (04.23.10)
Gary Cooper faced the music. He did what a a man has to do. We shall also face the music. In this particular operetta we wrote the musical score and the lyrics, we have also been conducting the orchestra for a long time now. It has never been an International hit and never won any awards, not even a nomination.
14. #6 Israel was Behind Preventive Iraq War
Ilene ,   Washington, USA   (04.23.10)
I am on the side of peace, justice and international law. The Iraq War is projected to cost the US $3 trillion. An Iran war would be astronomically higher. The US is not willing to bear the cost, regardless of the illegality of it. You all are dreaming if you think that Israel starting a war with Iran will not lead to international isolation for Israel. The US is no longer willing to bear the cost of wars for Israel. I'm sorry, that's just a fact.
15. Don't dither - do or die. Strike fast and hard.
Avi ,   Geneva   (04.23.10)
Every moment of hesitation is a moment of weakness and allows the enemy to grow in strength. If Israel had struck 2-3 years ago (as soon as Iran declared its aggressive intentions) - as did Begin some decades ago - without dithering, the job would have been much easier and now done. Don't waste time!
16. Interesting article
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (04.23.10)
17. #14 both Iraq wars
(04.23.10)
The Americans attacked Iraq both times to protect the Saudis from Saddam. In both cases, Israel had nothing to do with it.
18. #14 Ilene - diatribe littered with "facts"
(04.23.10)
You write as if you are "the American People". You talk for yourself. Your opinions might be shared with others but they do not constitute as "facts". There's just as many people who think you're wrong. Israel is already isolated - that's precisely WHY such an action might be taken. That IS a fact. Dont worry, if Israel starts something with Iran - it will be comprehensive. "Peace lovers" will just have to put up with Israel defending itself against an enemy that is already at war with it through proxies. No thanks to the 'pinkies' of the world pre-occupied with the "victims of Israeli oppression'...what a joke.
19. Why attack nuclear facilities 500 feet underground?
Jake ,   USA   (04.23.10)
The correct response to a regime that is threatening your annihilation (with or without nukes) is to topple their regime before they have the ability to do it. Why attack nuclear facilities 500 feet underground, when you can cripple the government & military facilities with relative ease? Netanyahu can get on TV and give a speech about how Iranians deserve nuclear technology, but the Ayatollah's cannot be trusted - using Ahmadinejad's "nuclear rights" propaganda against him. No need to worry about "strengthening the Ayatollah's" since they will be eliminated. Considering an all-out war is inevitable, a relentless attack on the regime seems much more effective than any other course of action.
20. #14, I suppose Israel was behind the Vietnam war as well
Jake ,   USA   (04.23.10)
Israel will do what is necessary to safeguard its people from genocidal tyrants. You speak of "legalities" as if the UN has been running the world for centuries. If International law meant anything to anyone, the Iranians wouldn't be building a bomb in the first place. International law is a failed experiment.
21. Iran will reach an international agreement
Ilene ,   Washington, USA   (04.23.10)
The US and the world will allow Iran nuclear power monitored by the IAEA. Israel will not be allowed to strike Iran. If Israel does it anyway, they must be prepared to face international isolation. Even your Defense Minister says Iran is not an existential threat, even with a nuclear weapon. Dreaming about making a war of choice is not healthy behavior in a sane society. It is irresponsible to encourage this line of thought. We want to bring Israel into the world of nations and to love and respect Israel again. You all are making it awfully hard with all the warmongering and the refusal to consider anything but military solutions to your problems. I am but the tip of the iceberg in the USA on this issue. The US military gets this. Israel can not prevail over the President of the US and the US military. This is why Israel is now being restricted from offensive weapons, folks. Please note that Israel is not being provided with the F-35s and nuclear bunker busters required to fulfill your fantasies but rather only with mundane C-130 cargo planes. This should tell you all you need to know.
22. Israel-use your nukes B4 its 2 late
Craig ,   L.A., USA   (04.23.10)
My prayer is Netanyahu has the strength and understanding to do what has to be done. Israelis, you must, MUST, rally behind Netanyahu. You must strike while you still possess military superiority via your nukes. Iran won't stop, they will destroy your nation unless you confront them with devastating force before it is too late. Obama is an Islamic sympathizer and you can't count on him anyway. It is time to depend on your God....a tough thing for a huge percentage of you who no longer believe, or never believed in a living God. I am 53, but would be honored and willing to take up arms in an instant and risk my life for Israel...and I am not Jewish. Be strong Israelis - You are the Chosen Ones, Your God will not be silent forever...but you must go forth and possess what God has granted you.
23. Ilene
Ilana   (04.23.10)
I am on the side of peace and justice. And if the world isolates us, at least we will be around to be isolated. Since when is that something new? Instead of isolating Iran, terrorists, extreme islam, you dream of isolating us. Remember the statement: "THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. THEN THEY CAME for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. They came for the gypsies, the crippled and the handicapped and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a gypsy or crippled or handicapped. Next they came for the homosexuals and lesbians and I didn't speak up because I was not gay. THEN THEY CAME for me and by that time no one was left to speak up." You may think you are on the right side but that is just an opinion. Perhaps you are not.
24. The strength of democracy.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (04.23.10)
If both political leaders and public opinion are convinced of the rightness and necessity of war, it is extremely difficult to withstand the wrath of a democratic country. The staying power of such countries does not depend on the damage they suffer in human lives and property. Their power lies in what defines their very existence–their belief in democratic values and their wish to protect them. If a democratic society believes in the rightness and necessity of its struggle, and if its leadership can provide a simple and clear answer to the question, “What are we fighting for?” the public will be willing to bear any burden required of them. At the most critical junctures of its history, the citizenry is not the weakest link in a democratic country, but its greatest resource. We will fight for our country because it is ours and we have no other as explained in 6 parts at : http://xrl.us/bi5c6
25. THE MOMENT OF DECISION IS NOW !!!.
Arn. ,   SWEDEN.-   (04.23.10)
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3879609,00.html ISRAEL MUST STRIKE FIRST !!!. CAN ISRAEL AFFORD HER ENEMIES THIS PREVILEGE ???. IF ISRAEL ACCORDING TO MR BIDEN ABOVE, WAIT FOR DIPLOMACY AND SANCTIONS, TO SUCCED OR FAIL, IF THEY FAIL, EVEN THE ENEMIES OF ISRAEL WILL UNDERSTAND, WHEN THE STRIKE WILL COME. THEN THE ENEMIES OF ISRAEL WILL STRIKE FIRST !!!. THE TIME FOR DECISION IS THEREFORE NOW, WHEN A STRIKE IS NOT EXPECTED !!!. Arn.
26. #21, Israel doesn't need bunker-busters to topple the regime
Jake ,   USA   (04.23.10)
27. Ilene
Marty ,   USA   (04.23.10)
What inane drivel. Are you sure your name isn't Jane Fonda? You can't camouflage your true agenda by claiming to be on the side of of peace, justice or international law. You are not and never will be. You are on the side of dhimmitude and cowardice. The only peace that a troll like you supports is the peace that dead Americans will rest in if we fail to stop the menace of a nuclear Iran. Only an idiot puts a price tag on freedom or preventing genocide.
28. It a terribly difficult decision. If we strike
we'll be hit hard   (04.23.10)
It's a choice between 2 terrible options: If we strike, I'm afraid Israel will be hit in a way never hit before. It's going to be Tel Aviv, Haifa, maybe Jerusalem (not sure because of the importance of east Jerusalem), Be'er Sheva, every major city. Probable also chemical and biological weapon. Just think of the hysteria, the thousands of civilians dead. People running in the streets seeking shelter and their gas masks, which I doubt will be effective. Skyscrapers reduced to rubble, collapsing with the people working or living in them. It'll probably be something Israelis never experienced. Because the wars used to be in the front. The soldiers were the ones fighting and getting hit. During the wars, life in Tel Aviv continued almost as usual. Now, it's going to be us civilians and our home and cities who'll get hit by hundreds of rockets. On the other hand, if we don't do anything and Iran has a bomb. It's going to be a new era in Israelis life. Living with a constant existential threat. How many Israelis will not be able to bear the tension, the fear for their and their children's lives and will leave Israel? And what if Iran drops an atomic bomb, or a few bombs on Israel? Israel will become a history and historians will look back at our present time and ask themselves - why didn't they do something to prevent it? why didn't they learn anything from the holocaust? Yes, they would have suffered many casualties and their cities would have been hit hard, but they, as a nation, would have survived. Thousands of people would have have been killed, but not millions as would happen if there's a nuclear war, and Israel would have survived. VERY TOUGH DECISION.....
29. Iran strike
Gerard Bron ,   France   (04.23.10)
As stated avove, Israel has simply not the military might to strike the evasive targets so far from its bases and the consequences would be terrible for the world and for Israel. In 1979-82, the Occident had to cope with an energy crisis due to the demise of the Pahlavi regime and the installation of the islamic republic. The mollahs weren't that fools and they quickly resume the deliveries of oil to the West who impose them the war ignited by Saddam Hussein, here again, the stupid mollahs were able to limit to a 4 percent drop in their oil xportation mainly because they're was an oil glut orevious the crisis but this time, the response of the whole persian people might be of severe consequences for the world as it still is a major producer not het replace by the Iraki and they're no oil surpluses anywhere. And one of the first customer of the mollahs will be Israel itself which used to by its oil to the Iranian mollahs who, in response, may stop their deliveries ot oil making the Merkavas which gulp one hundred liters per hour out of use.

Who - for heaven's sake - is coming now for the Jews? Ahmadinejad??? Its not the reality. You are dreaming a bad dream.
