1. At any moment, I expect an incident to occur
Erastus CoupeDeVille ,   Ong's Hat, NJ USA   (04.30.10)
which will cause one or both sides, in a moment of pique, to withdraw from these scheduled talks.
2. What excuse are the arabs going to come up with this time?
Asdf   (04.30.10)
3. Vassal Jews
Marcel ,   Florida   (04.30.10)
Once again the Jews are being herded to the rail cars. Israel is no longer sovereign and ruled by crafty, devious Washington and their latest Jerusalem puppet. This time naive Israel is led to destruction under the guise of peace and proximity talks,
4. Recipie for War
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (04.30.10)
No more concessions from Israel period. The current US started spat has increased the chance of war 10 fold. It may well be a hot summer thanks to Obama. http://israelprotect.blogspot.com
5. Hillary should resign
Brod ,   USA   (04.30.10)
instead of being a puppet of Hussien. Bill has also been receiving millions of dollars from the Saudis. The Saudist Wahhabhists have the Clintons in their pocket to do their dirty work. It is time for Hillary to resign and stop being a zombie of the dark forces.
6. talks
colin   (04.30.10)
the courtsen of the Islamic american president blabbers again. Nobody gives a damn what she sprouts. Somebody must advise her to get of the occupied land the americans took from the INDIANS. This will keep her busy as she does not please her husband with her bullshit
7. This is great news!
M Wohlberg ,   Baltimore   (04.30.10)
So why are so many people here against talks that will lead to a peace agreement that will make Israel safer? Don’t people here want Israel to be secure? Like any true American Obama wants the very best for Israel and has gone out of his way to offer reassurances and said in no uncertain terms that he will ALWAYS support Israel so why are people here so against peace with the Arabs?
8. Netanyahu, Why Are Agreeing To This Trap?
Armchair General ,   Wisconsin, USA   (04.30.10)
Binyamin, why are agreeing to be led into this trap? The Americans have a million ways to punish you if you don't accede to an imposed plan. No veto at the UN, holding the unilateral declaration of a PA state over your head, etc. Already we have read countless times the games the US is playing in holding up sale/delivery of aircraft, bunker busters, etc to Israel. From the reports we read, Israel has stopped building anywhere over the 1967 lines. You, Netanyahu, appear strong in public, but the news articles say it is obvious that you have frozen building in Jerusalem. There is a Hamastan state in Gaza. Yet the Americans are pushing for a truncated Israeli state, with a divided Jerusalem, and a somehow non-contiguous territory. If this Israel can remain viable is a serious question, but this tiny Israel will always be under the gun. Bibi, are you sure you want to walk into this trap? You will be putty in the hands of Obama, Rahm, State Dept. Until we hear more, I'm going to have to go along with #3 Marcel - although the cattle cars aren't quite there yet.
9. Who Is Israel Supopsed to Talk To?
emanon ,   USA   (04.30.10)
There are multiple entities claiming to be the head of the arab side and each denies the others. This way, whoever Israel meets with the other sides will say they didn't agree and they are free to continue killing Jews. It's all a farce.
10. #5 Brod - everyone is silent about the Clintons' conflict
Carl   (04.30.10)
of interest. You are right to mention that. The Clinton foundation receives tons of money from Arab countries. And she's not the only one in the present administration to be tainted by Arab money. Now that I remember, UK envoy Tony Blair is also up to his ears in investment connections with Arab countries. The whole thing stinks. But the Netanyahu government, who knows all that, dutifully follows foreign leaders' orders and will soon be herding Jews out of E. Jerusalem and the territories. Under orders, of course.
11. To all Commentators
Harold ,   NY, USA   (04.30.10)
When President Obama wants to do something he will do it. You know why because he has no links to ISRAELI LOBBYIST
12. Does this mean that a war is coming?!
Salma ,   Palestine   (04.30.10)
13. Now you can announce that you are building
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (04.30.10)
a Wal-Mart in Jerusalem ........and ignore the Pompous moron who thinks she was elected to the Israeli government. Who are these clowns that think they can dictate to Israeli leaders from an apartment in Washington DC? Send this cow back to her pen in Arkansas. The United States embarasses Israeli's by announcing government policy, when they aren't even part of Israel.
14. Stop Building in East Washingon
er der   (04.30.10)
& East London, & East Paris, & East Sydney, & East Tokyo, & . . . .
15. Translation
zionist forever   (04.30.10)
Next week Obama will start going all out to create his legacy as the president who created an arab state even if it doesn't actually bring peace. Obama will have created the state his legacy is assured. Hillary is kicking off her campaign to become the Democrat presidential candidate in 2012. If they are not careful and Obsma starts trying to hurt Israel so he can have his legacy come November the Democrats might just lose their majority in Congress and without that Obama is seriously weakened.
16. ARAB FOREIGN MINSISTERS??? IN THESE NON-TALKS???
stude ham   (04.30.10)
give us a break please... just who is negotiating and what? obviously abbas is out of the talks and can only demand what the arab foreign ministers tell him to demand or to concede. so... all that will be on the table will be the stale old stinking rot of demands... like jerusalem... golan... judea and samaria... and lebanon??? this is a propaganda exercise which will go nowhere and must never be allowed credence.
17. USA - divine curse working already !
Jaacov Baumann   (04.30.10)
This US administration is a curse for Israel, therefore the God of Israel is cursing this US administration ! Just look at the oil desaster - there will be more of this kind ! ''He who curses Israel will be cursed!''
18. 1st agenda item - Has Abbas even accepted "2-state solution"
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (04.30.10)
Talks should not proceed on any subject until both parties have agreed that the basis is - 2 states, one Jewish, one Arab. So far, Abbas rejects ever explicitly recognizing a Jewish State, reiterating the 63-year cause of the entire problem, Arab refusal to recognize Israel as the Jewish State, as the UN 1st demanded in 1947. It is not sufficient for Abbas to agree only to "a state for Jews and others" - this has the appearance and reality of agreeing only to 2 Arab states. Talks should go forward only if both parties accept that a Jewish State and an Arab State is the explicit outcome. If Abbas and the Arab League want to be ambiguous about this, it must influence how much land Abbas gets - like maybe 30% or less of the W. Bank if he or the Arab League refuses "Jewish State". This also rules out massive (or even token) Arab "return" to Jewish Israel - they go to PA state only. So far, so-called Saudi Peace Plan rejects a Jewish State, demands "right of return" for Arab refugees to Israel. So...no "Jewish State", explicitly and in writing, then nothing further to talk about. The American people and Congress will not tolerate any Obama "compromise" or waffling on this central issue. It has to be up front and first.
19. Israel cant but abide by, or else
observer   (04.30.10)
Israel will face a U.S. abstention on any resolution, rather than a veto,
20. Oh hardly, observer
Cameron ,   USA   (05.01.10)
Remember, Obama walks a fine line with the Congress & populace in terms of jeopardizing our alliance with Israel. He is experimenting, and ever so carefully picking his way along in terms of selecting pressures to employ. It's a dance, and he's very mindful of his footwork and pace so as not to bring the dance to a dramatic, sharp end. This is not the domestic policy arena, and their are forces & barriers present he cannot openly face off against. A push here, and a prod there........
21. No progress unless...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (05.01.10)
All indications are that little if anything will come out of such talks, for several reasons: 1. If the parties truly seek peace they should conduct direct talks. So far the Arab leadership, both local and regional, i.e. PLO' PA and Arab League, refuse 2. The Arab side has an incentive not to talk so long as the Obama administration conveys the message to them, directly and indirectly, that it - obviously hostile to Israel - will do the job for them and "deliver" Israel on a silver platter 3. So long as the Arab leadership, local and regional refuse to accept Israel's RIGHT to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people - based on the San Remo conference, 1920, League of Nations decision, 1922, United Nations resolution, 1947; and as long as it refuses to accept a peace treaty as the "end of the conflict", there is no incentive to take additional steps that will risk even more Israel's security. Note, Israel is a tiny country, one the size of Wales in the UK, Slovenia in Europe and a bit larger than Rhode Island with only 5.5 million Jews and no natural resources but its people. This David by Biblical proportions faces Goliath, the entire Muslim and Arab world that has attempted to wipe it off the face of earth!!!
22. As a Jew, I feel Emperor Obama is pushing us to become
Avigdor Ezrahi ,   Israel   (05.01.10)
his gladiators so that he will be able to satisfy his ego, Mr. Barakeh Hussein Obama, being a devout follower of Rev. Wright and a confidant of Min. Farakhan, must demonstrate to himself and those in whose name he acts that Yes, HE CAN deliver the Jews to the Molekh...
23. #18: You Are Partly Correct
emanon ,   USA   (05.01.10)
To put in simpler terms: The arabs want a one state solution, THEIR state. No Israel, no Jews, no non-Muslims. That will leave them free to fight among themselves over who is in charge.
24. Talks? I know a parrot that talks.
Joey Rose ,   Portland   (05.01.10)
So far, that is all anyone is talking about.
25. Peace will be the result only of an Israeli victory
Ron B. ,   Lod   (05.01.10)
The goal of victory is not exactly something novel. Sun Tzu, the ancient Chinese strategist, advised that in war, "Let your great object be VICTORY." Raimondo Montecuccoli, a seventeenth-century Austrian, said that "THE OBJECTIVE IN WAR IS VICTORY." Carl von Clausewitz, a nineteenth-century Prussian, added that "WAR IS AN ACT OF VIOLENCE TO COMPEL THE ENEMY TO FULFILL OUR WILL." Winston Churchill told the British people: "You ask: what is our aim? I can answer in one word: VICTORY - VICTORY - AT ALL COSTS, VICTORY, IN SPITE OF ALL TERROR, VICTORY, HOWEVER LONG AND HARD THE ROAD MAY BE." Dwight D. Eisenhower observed that "IN WAR, THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR VICTORY." These insights from prior eras still hold, for however much weaponry changes, human nature remains the same. 26. The Oslo Accord : A “war process”.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (05.01.10)
Many Jews and Arabs living in this part of the world really miss the good old days before the Middle East peace process began -- before Yasser Arafat and the PLO were brought to the West Bank and Gaza Strip after the signing of the Oslo Accords. It is time to cry out loudly that this peace process has been nothing but a disaster. Has anyone ever noticed that more Jews and Arabs have died since the signing of the Oslo Accords than during the period between 1967 and 1993? This peace process, correctly dubbed by some as a “war process,” has failed; it is time to try something else. More at : http://xrl.us/bgtivf
27. As if talks never took place before!
Norma Fares   (05.01.10)
"Secretary of State Clinton says US expects indirect Israeli-Palestinian talks to get underway next week," as if direct, and not only indirect, talks never took place before? Unless Palestinian leaders recognize the Jewish state of Israel, no progress would be made whether talks were direct or indirect.
28. #19 BREAKING NEWS
Nour ,   One-State   (05.01.10)
BREAKING NEWS Military solution has not worked! 130 years of evidence suggests that it has not worked in the past, and will never work in the future. The solution will be a political one - paving way for the 1-state eventually. Welcome my neighbor. Mi casa es tu casa.
29. why must Us involve
josh ,   mal   (05.01.10)
Us is trying to play God. Why should Us involve in all this? It is between God and Satan. No one can put his hand into this. God is only to blame not the Us or others for all these problems between the palestinian and israel. God will judge those who get involved.
30. Obama the great
josh ,   mal   (05.01.10)
If obama is so great, let him solve the oil spill in the us first. Judgements have come upon the us already for dividing the land.
