1. Factually incorrect
Menachem ,   Israel   (05.04.10)
Jewish women have on average 2,7 and not 2,1 children, in other words closer to 3 than 2. This figure has remained stable and even increased slightly the last few years. At the same time the fertility rates among Muslim women have fallen to 3 children per woman and even lower birth rates among Christian Arab and Druze women.
2. #1 Sources?

3. What is the Truth?
Elijah ,   Israel   (05.04.10)
So, what are right figures since Menachem mentioned that there is a mistake in the article?
4. Huge differences between census and CBS
Tom ,   serbia   (05.04.10)
Please explain the huge differences between central bureaus of statistics datas and census.Acording to the CBS awrege Jewish family have 2,7 children, more than Druze and Christian families, while the Muslim fertility rate is shrinking dramaticaly
5. My guess re. discrepancy - people lie to census
Debbie ,   USA   (05.04.10)
You can say anything on a census form. Other government stats, however, can be more accurate. Palestinians, for example, have over-inflated their population statistics to scare Jews into partitioning their land.
6. # 2 & 3 , Tom # 4 is right
Menachem ,   Israel   (05.04.10)
Tom (#4) correctly points out the huge difference between this poll and the far more accurate numbers presented by Israel's CBS. Check out for yourself. The average Jewish woman has 2,7 and not 2,1 children which is higher than the birth rates among Christian Arab and Druze women. Meanwhile the birth rates among Israeli Muslim women is shrinking rapidly and converging with Jewish birth rates.
7. Not a journalistic mistake
Gershon ,   Haifa   (05.04.10)
The discrepancy is between the census data: http://www.cbs.gov.il/w/censusshtml/UN-SSI89902410.shtml and the regular data: http://www.cbs.gov.il/reader/newhodaot/hodaa_template.html?hodaa=200801231 Both are from CBS. Very strange indeed. The 2.1 figure seems to be incorrect, judging from population age diagrams.
8. Age 15?
???   (05.04.10)
I don't understand using the age of 15 to see how many work, are married or have children. How many 15 year olds have or do any of the above?
9. Census figures
Nili   (05.04.10)
Interesting for a conversation, but as we all know people don't always give "all" the right info and figures can be manipulated. I am more curious about the housing numbers. Did anyone count the homeless--or those sleeping on other peoples sofas? Just asking.
10. This doesnt match CBS and Hospital figures, why not?
David ,   Boston, USa   (05.04.10)
While I know statistics to possibly be way off the differences here are huge. I think someone needs to review the data for errors before publishing.
11. statistics in article unclear
david ,   new york   (05.04.10)
"the average israeli family has 2.2 children" is very different from a fertility rate of 2.2. remember, many families are still in the process of having children and if they have 2.2 now, they may end up with 3 or more when they are done. this article does not differentiate the 2 statistics so we have no idea what the census found.
12. Just give all the Jews a passport
Yoni ,   Poloni   (05.05.10)
Give all the Jews a passport, From the USA, France, UK, Australia, South America and South Africa - then nobody will care about birthrate. If Israel is the only 1 Jewish Homeland, then all Jews should vote, that would make the Muslim vote very small %, thus securing the future of the State, as the only safe house for Jews in this dark world
