1. Why don't I have any sympathy for this woman who continue
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (05.12.10)
to demonstrate, even in and out of the court of law yet accuse the Israeli authorities of living under military rule...
2. hahahah they got more freedom in Israel
ghostq   (05.12.10)
thsn in Arab Countries, if they were living in other arab county nobody would have let them even to protest. baaaaa they just like lil infintile kids, need for constant attantion.
3. arabs have it better in israel than anywhere in the mid east
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (05.12.10)
by the way, you break security laws in israel, you are arrested and go to jail. in other arab/islamic countries you are arrested, jailed, tortured, and executed. its' funny that if arabs actually live under military rule in israel, how can they possibly be protesting in public and speak freely to the press about it? their actions show they are lying.
4. #1 - #3 : so you are saying, that arabs in israel should be
eporue ,   europe   (05.12.10)
treated like in a sharia state, and not according to the law applied to israelies ? ok, then dont complain if anyone calls you an apartheid state... and - you should also make that clear by law. not pretend to be a democracy, while you are not...
5. All Israeli citizens are equal before the law!
Avigdor Ezrahi ,   Israel   (05.12.10)
Is it different in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc.? Israel is a liberal democratic state and its citizens are dealt with in such a way, no better and no worse than in any liberal democracy on earth.
6. AN END TO HAVING IT BOTH WAYS
steve ,   Israel   (05.12.10)
No doubt it's heartwarming for his daughter "to see the support of Jews who came here to protest dad's situation". It would be equally heartwarming if Israeli-Arabs protested Gilad Shalit's situation.
7. Arab countries EXCUTE!
(05.12.10)
The Arabs would excute any of their citizins that act like this! The Arabs in Israel have it better than in all the other Arab countries.
8. Are they complaining that Israel's law enforcement wouldn't
Elinor ,   Ottawa, Canada   (05.12.10)
let them deal with espionage? But this is what they sound like, and they sound it in a state they claim to be a military state, and doing it in broad daylight without any fear of being arrested for speaking their minds. They are nothing but a joke!
9. Why are they complaining?
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (05.12.10)
They think they are living under military rule. In the next election, they should all vote Lieberman. His plan is to release them from military rule and let them be citizens of a new Arab state. This is a humane solution as the Arabs will have what they want and no one jews will have to be ethnically cleansed.
10. Not human right
Serge ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (05.12.10)
it is not a human right to be a spy. it is up to the judges to decide if they did something illegal. the release yesterday of Sheikh Raed Salah confirms nobody is convicted without proof. the suspect's brother confirmed there is something, the question is how big is the issue.
11. First Free Shalit
emanon ,   USA   (05.12.10)
Then we talk . . .

I wouldn't have responded, recognizing you're just another anti-Israeli European, until you had to call Israel an "apartheid state." I can tolerate a difference of opinion, but this is simply factually wrong. South Africa under apartheid denied blacks of their rights as citizens. Heck, many were denied even their citizenship by the government. There was forced racial segregation, and they had an entirely different set of public services (including health care). This is not Israel today. Israel is a thriving democracy, and Arab-Israelis enjoy rights that black South Africans were outwardly denied. There are Arab MKs, Arabs are allowed to protest and practice their religion freely, and integration occurs in many aspects of daily life. (Go to any health clinic here--it's a microcosm of Israeli society.) They are expected to be good citizens (just as Jewish Israelis are). So please, before you call Israeli and "apartheid state," build yourself a time machine and check out what the situation was like for black South Africans. Then come to Israel. I'll even show you around. Hopefully that will open your judgmental eyes.

15. THE CHUTZPA!
OZ   (05.12.10)
arabs in israel enjoy the very best civil liberties anywhere in the m.e their life expcetancy is the highest, their education the highest, their economical progress- the highest.yet ,they tend to be as ungreatfull and unfaithfull to the state that has given them so much, and only asks loyalty in return. hell, we even protect them from hizbullah missles... she can protest all year for all i care-- when there's smoke, ususally there's fire. if he spied for our enemies ,let him rot in jail for the rest of his pathetic lives.
16. The Big Lie...
Mikesailor ,   Miami,, FL   (05.12.10)
Is that Israel treats citizems equally under the law. Jews, in Israel, do have a 'special' treatment except where 'security' is invoked by any state agency. The curious aspect of this case is the secrecy surrounding the matter. Why is this person being held? We know what the 'security' services say, yet they have been known to 'fudge' the truth if not outright lie, repeatedly. The routine use of 'secret' gag orders is another problem. Closing the courthouse doors when a 'remand' i.e.further incarceration, is determined also raises suspicions of skullduggery by the authorities. Yet, the majority of Israelis seem unconcerned with this procedure; the unfairness and secrecy. Once the authorities cry 'security', most Israelis fall into line and approve any procedure used in the mistajken view that it will 'keep them safe'. Especially when the defendant is a non-Jew. You are truly a nation of sheep.
17. israel is far too tolerant
abraham ,   toronto   (05.12.10)
of the 5th column. Throw them to gaza
18. #4: No, that is not what they're saying.
Tahl ,   Ashdod   (05.12.10)
First, you wouln't know what "Apartheid" is even if it smacked you in the face. Michelle at#12 responded to you perfectly, so I don't need to add another word on this topic. Second, as #5 correctly pointed out to you, all Israeli citizens are equal before the law. This means that if a Jewish-Israeli would be suspected of leaking sensitive intel to an enemy state, they would be treated similarly. Witness Nahum Manbar, Marcus Klingberg and Mordechai Vanunu. So there is no double-standard here. The major difference between Jews and Arab citizens, though, is that the former engage in such nefarious espionage activities that much more often.
19. "Arabs under military rule "
DT ,   TA Israel   (05.12.10)
They are fee to leave whenever they want !
20. #14 I'm not calling for the death penalty.
Janice Cohen ,   ירושלים   (05.12.10)
Although for High treason he probably deserves it. Don't be concerned, be happy !
21. Wife : " Won't be broken."
Vinny ,   Brooklyn N.Y.   (05.12.10)
My money says he WILL be broken in prison, and won't come out the same chaste virgin he went in. Condolences not only to this wife, but the 3 or 4 others that were'nt mentioned.
22. #9
Daniel Francis ,   Berrien SPrings USA   (05.12.10)
So you support the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians?
23. to #4 you contradict yourself
ghostq   (05.12.10)
you blame Israel in Europene invention for Islamic law, do you even read your post, it as if you said the global warming is because someone from mexico scarched himself with chopstiks.
24. The demonstrators haven't convinced me that Israel
Dave ,   Cardiff, UK   (05.12.10)
is either a "military state" or that Israeli authorities should have acted any differently in facing cases of espionage against the state by the state's own citizens. What they have convinced me is that there must be truth to Israel's suspicion about the two gentlemen, and that their supporters use the arrests as an anti-Israel political act.
25. #4 - Freedom is not an absolute privilege anywhere
William ,   Israel   (05.12.10)
Neither in Europe, Asia, nor the US. Someone who uses their freedom to take the human rights of others and hurt institutions that eventually hurt many citizens can and should lose some of their freedom. There is nothing "apartheid" about it. Infact, the "apartheid" issue is really exhibited from the Arabs' side who demand one law for themselves and another law for everyone else. Arabs and Leftists want the majority in Israel to be ruled by the minority - now that's APARTHEID! last I checked, sedition, violence, and supporting terrorism was never a human right.
26. #16 - no different than in any other democracy, Mike
William ,   Israel   (05.12.10)
Get over your racist self. It happens daily in the West for various reasons. But since you seem hell-bent on insisting that Jews have different laws for themselves than Arabs, please tell me which benefits that Jews receive that Arabs do not - and be sure to consider all State institutions, citizen obligations including paying taxes, and freedom of movement. I am curious how Floridians feel about the "poor, mis-treated Israeli Arabs" from 7000 miles away.
27. Janan Makhoul should move to Iran ,where there is no militar
Silvio Mantoani ,   Roma Italia   (05.15.10)
Where there is no military rule, and she should take that circus that's around her, with her.
