1. Pa and NATO
jeremy ,   hula valley kibbutz   (05.19.10)
Let's face it, the PA wants this so Israel will not retaliate for their terror, hopefully NATO and the US won't agree to this but knowing those Europeans they will
2. Oh, you have got to be kidding, Abbas
Cameron ,   USA   (05.19.10)
No NATO member is going to place itself right in the middle of that BS. Not a chance on that scenario. Cannot believe he spoke that nonsense with a straight face. The brass of such a statement!
3. NATO - It;s Obama's Scheming
tony ,   nigeria   (05.19.10)
The proposal is nothing but the scheming of the islamic born president of the US, President Hussein Obama against Israel. But with God on the side of Israel, NATO or NATO, Israel will prevail against them. Besides, Americans have realised their mistake in voting Obama as president, and they are only waiting for the November election to kick him out. The Senate should please, initiate impeachment process against him immediate before he disgrace and destroys the great US to the advantage of Russia. Obama should resign immediately or the electorate will disgrace him and his party. He has failed the US.
4. PA has met its security obligations, in Road map?
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & New York   (05.19.10)
Abbas says "PA has met its security obligations, as detailed in the Road Map, in full." What about all those missiles coming from their territory - Gaza? Or will that not be part of the Palestinian state?
5. Will NATO go after AL AKSA GANG or AL Queda gang for Israel
Alan ,   SA   (05.19.10)
6. yes, the UN pawns in south lebanon are SO effective
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (05.19.10)
the 'peacekeepers' in southern lebanon know very well their role among the islamists: see nothing, hear nothing, say nothing, know nothing. the only exception is if they slam/blame israel, that is. and give the UN folk credit - they dutifully serve their hizbullah hosts obediently.
7. Turkish NATO troops Protecting Palestine
Robert ,   Brisbane, Australia   (05.19.10)
#6 " yes, the UN pawns in south lebanon are SO effective" Then you should have no objection to Nato forces protecting the Palestinians if you have such a low regard for them.
8. NATO in PLO
Jim Brown ,   TN USA   (05.19.10)
Sure they will prevent arms smuggling just like they have in Lebanon.
9. 3 wasters, Abbas, Mitchell and NATO
DT ,   TA Israel   (05.19.10)
Of course the PA would love to have NATO as they would be totally pro Palestinian and easily manipulated. Just hope the IDF pull out soon and Abbas will be history not that he is anything but a very bad chapter now

Nour ,   One-State فلسطين   (05.19.10)
You missed the point. It's not Obama's scheming as you call it, but the collective will of the entire world including the Quartet and the UN. European nations are apparently determined to impose the 2-state solution, after persuation and dialogue with the US. Personally, the 2-state outcome is not palatable to me as it would most probably deny the right of return to most Palestinians such as myself. I much prefer the one-state (Palestine) solution with real democracy and equal rights to all. Knowing how hypocritical the West is, the former solution might be imposed. Little do they know that it is not sustainable or even possible. "Israel" will never be recognized as a Jewish state, for the simple reason that "Israel" sits on our ruins as the Palestinian Arab people. How's the suya?
11. Why NATO and not UN? If UN useless lets disband it.
leo ,   usa   (05.19.10)

Brod ,   USA   (05.19.10)
Israel should reject this foreign intrusion in the Land of Israel.

14. Foreign Troops in the Land = END OF ISRAEL
David P. ,   USA   (05.19.10)
NATO will open the door to a wave of terror that will engulf Israel!

Nour, When you say Israel "sits on [your] ruins as the Palestinian Arab people", you approve of your people's presence in Palestine, of course. That means you also accept that it was okay that Islamic forces conquered by force, some 1200-1400 years ago, what is modern-day Israel/Gaza/West Bank. Before 600 C.E., there were no Muslims in modern-day Israel/Gaza/West Bank because there was no Islam at that time, correct? Islam came not from the Jordan River area but from the Arabian peninsula, so Islam was an invasion into the Jordan River area. That's history, right? So then what was fundamentally different about Britain taking over what is modern-day Israel/Gaza/West Bank from the Ottomon Empire at the end of World War 1? The Ottomons, your ancestors' former overlords, (1) decided that fighting in World War 1 was important to them, and (2) they chose the losing side. They lost. Fair is fair. The British took over about 1920 and decided to do with the land as they pleased. This included a homeland for Jews, who had been immigrating there **with permission from the Ottomon authorities**, in significant numbers anyway for the prior 40 years. That was okay for Islam 1200-1400 years ago, correct? Why not for the British 90 years ago? The League of Nations, the 1922 version of the modern United Nations, even approved the British plans for a Jewish homeland. The British let Jewish people into what is modern-day Israel from the 1920's onward. But the Arabs in the land responded with riots. So it was abundantly clear Jews would not be safe in a binational state, a "one-state solution". So two states were proposed in the British White paper in 1939. This idea apparently was not a bad idea, so the UN adopted a two-state solution, *including a Jewish state*, in 1947. Let's not forgot that this Jewish state occupied less than 20% of the land, both east and west of the Jordan River, over which the British took control from the Ottomons at the end of WW1 - the other 80% went to Arabs (i.e., Jordan and the UN-proposed Palestinian state). Islam did it 1200-1400 years ago, why was it wrong for Britain to do it 90 years ago?
16. Ahlan wa sahlan ;)
Salma ,   Palestine   (05.19.10)
Perhaps we can communicate more with the NATO forces, than " Israeli" occupation forces :)
17. It is a good Idea that should be highly considered
Joseph Blough ,   NY, USA   (05.19.10)
Clearly some form of international force will be needed to keep the two apart, so the use of NATO forces to protect the Palestinian border is a great idea.
18. #17 It has worked in Lebanon
Mark ,   Boston   (05.19.10)
There have been only 3 attacks since the war and they were not by done by Hizbullah. Before the war, there were monthly attacks. The UN has been on the Golan-
19. Mark #18
Brod ,   USA   (05.19.10)
It has worked in Lebanon? It is a big joke. Hezbollah has infested S. Lebanon and hidden their rockets there.
20. How long would NATO be allowed to stay
zionist forever   (05.19.10)
Create the state give it 6 month - 1 year the palestinians are going to start shouting this is an occupation by NATO. They would demand their government kick NATO out and if they don't then we will probably start to see the begining of terror attacks against NATO troops. If they stop terrorists carrying out attacks against Israel such as rocket attacks its only going to increase the hatred towards them and NATO will be seen as there to protect Israel and that makes them legitimate tagets. If they don't want to be seen as traitors the PA will then have to kick out NATO going against the terms of any political deal they might make in exchange for independence. Has anybody asked Israel how it feels about the idea of NATO troops in this state because it would probably make it impossible to carry our military action under any circumstances in future if there is good reason. It would be seen as putting NATO troops in harms way which is would never get away with doing. So the reality is those troops were there to protect palestinians from Israel and make them untouchable. If NATO become responsible for peace keeping Israel has no say in how its enemies are dealt with and would just have to HOPE that somebody else can manage to get the job done for us.
