31. Boycott only on settlement goods not on all Israeli goods
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (05.21.10)
I think this is a good non-violent move by the PA, the people need to feel they are trying to win their independents and control of their lives. A focused boycott is better than fighting with weapons and settlers could move companies to Israel proper. The real question is who owns and controls lands both sides claim as theirs.
32. to #15 "observer"
daniel ,   israel   (05.21.10)
Actually, it was Israel who accepted the partition plan, while the Arabs rejected it outright and started a war of annihilation against Palestine's Jews. I wonder what sort of observation it requires to turn history around so you can somehow make a moral assertion that is just ridiculous to begin with. It is the Arabs who have to accept partition, they are the one's who rejected the resolution, and somehow people think that the facts are the opposite, as with your case. Bizarre.
33. :: Ralph Levy - #11
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (05.21.10)
You are 100% wrong. The Israeli high court has determined (in line with the ICJ, US State Dept, International Law, etc) that: “...Judaea and Samaria and the Gaza Strip should be regarded as one territory (and is) subject to a *belligerent occupation*” (2002). The only people who claim that the ‘land is disputed’ are Ynuts like you – everyone else (who matters) recognizes that the land is ‘occupied’.
34. :: Eaglebeak - #26 - Correction
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (05.22.10)
"Can Israel attack Iran? No because Obama said no (see post #16)" My bad, this refers to post #16 under the article: 'Russia: We'll sell advanced missile system to Iran'.
35. Tit For Tat, and We Have the Advantage
Dav Lev ,   Burbank. CAUSA   (05.22.10)
I have advocated that Diaspora Jewry (and good Christians), buy from a list of 500 that can be shown on the Net. We could import these products locally. What if thousands of Kroger, Rite Aid and Walmart set up special stands? 200m possibly lost to Jewish enterprises, could be made up in a few weeks. Then, fire the Arab employees if business declines in the W. Bk, and Jerusalem. The bottom line will tell. I mean is this the two states, side by side living in peace and love, as predicted by the Arab side? Oh come on. I am ready with 1,000 in purchases to aid my Jewish brethren in Israel.
36. the author refers to a "price tag"
dave berg ,   usa   (05.22.10)
Isn't there already a price tag policy by the settlers to burn mosques and olive groves, shoot at unarmed people and steal Palestinian land when they can get away with it? (which is most of the time). How much more can you punish and persecute the people in the occupied lands? Is it war or peace that Israel wants? You must choose between giving them their freedom via a state, continuing the system of apartheid or making them citizens of Israel.
37. #1 - interesting that you find that funny
William ,   Israel   (05.22.10)
unless you're one of the self-righteous who either do not work or consider themselves in a class above factory workers. Either way, being in Tel Aviv, you're a member of the society, and be hurt equally by any economic downturn as you predict. Unfortunately for you - the center of the universe is NOT Tel Aviv nor is it separate from the rest of Israel.
38. #14 - Terrorism/corruption the real cancer to Pals
William ,   Israel   (05.22.10)
And that's where they should focus their energies on fixing. Since 1920, it was solely their racism, corruption, and use of terrorism that has placed them in this position....well before any "settlement" was ever built. It's the same reason they lost their best chance at Statehood and dumped the fastest growing economy in the world back in the late 1990s! "Pals" are just puppets with the strings reaching far to other Arab capitals. That is their cancer and that is why they suffer.
39. #15 - Changing history again, mis-observer?
William ,   Israel   (05.22.10)
Israel did accept the 1947 partition, it was the Arabs who did not. It was also the Arabs who launched a genocidal war right afterwards to..."cause Jewish blood to run through the streets like a river....our attack will be worse than the Mongols". That silly little "land expansion" you mentioned? It was the cease-fire result of Arabs losing their asses in a war they illegally started...the first of many against Israel.
40. #23 - except that their hate drives their actions
William ,   Israel   (05.22.10)
First, the land is not technically or legally "occupied". Second, the best way for the PA to become successful as a State is to provide infrastructure and an economy. Right now, they not only rely on Israel but demand jobs from Israel. To gain political points and personify their hate, they boycott settlement products. Ok - fine. But what they should be doing is what China and India have done. Partner with some Israeli companies and create co-owned subsidiaries in the WB, which will become PA owned but still doing business with Israel, once their State venture is viable. "Palestinians" can eat whatever they want, and they usually want high-quality items which is why their wallets did the talking when they bought Israeli products. The point is - the PA has provided no real labor alternative for its people NOR even attempted to increase the quality of their products. At the end of the day, their people suffers and Fayyad gets political points.
41. Are you crazy?
Truthseeker ,   USA   (05.22.10)
Why should anyone in their right mind expect Palestinians to buy anything made in the settlements - settlements that are not only illegal but built on stolen Palestinian land. People should never buy products made by those who oppress them and who have taken their land..Today there is a growing group of Jews and other concerned citizens in America and Europe who will not buy anything made in the stolen land of the West Bank.
42. Matty #33
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (05.22.10)
Matty you can make up law all you want but that is basic International Law. The State Department does not make International Law, and previous law circumvents other International Law. So go back to your BDS US goverment or EU Nut friends and crawl under a rock. http://israelprotect.blogspot.com
43. # 3
Birdi ,   Israel   (05.22.10)
To the one who knows it all, Matty. The following is happening already; instead of Arab Labourers, Chinese Thai & African labourers are being hired to work in construction & orange groves. Every Israeli I know & I know MANY, (including me & my entire family) do not buy produce from Palestinians. So you see Matty the Pallie boycott is already working. Eat your stone heart out !!
44. # 33
Birdi ,   Israel   (05.22.10)
WRONG again.
45. # 5
Birdi ,   Israel   (05.22.10)
Kudos to you & your wife, Ehud.
46. good move
US palestinian ,   USA/Palestine   (05.22.10)
palestinians to continue their policies until Israel draw their borders in solid lines . Violating human rights for the palestinians has some consequenses . israel can't cry foul here ..they are the violaters . Palestinians should have done that 62 years ago . but never too late i guess .
47. This guy is an academic?
John ,   Jerusalem   (05.22.10)
Seriously, if this guy is a philosophy lecturer then the standard of non-science faculties in Israeli universities must really be low. The Palestinians are boycotting Israeli settlement goods (while explicitly welcoming Israeli goods into their markets). If you want to organise a counter-boycott, then by all means boycott the PA factories in green-line Isreal. Oh wait....
48. Punishing Palis for not boycotting is the most disgusting
Sharona ,   Jerusalem Israel   (05.22.10)
Palestinians could (up to now) choose to buy whatever they want. If they choose to boycott goods produced by Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria-their choice. But to be forced to boycott or punished if they don't is blatantly a PA power grab and terror threat against its own people. Israel should shut out all Palis from working here. Please put up a comprehensive list of these goods so I can make it a priority to buy them!!!
49. To Matty number 3
Simon ,   Karmiel   (05.22.10)
I have just let go all of my Palestinian workers and changed all of my companies procurement to never again buy any produce from the Palestinians. In addition My company is to gradually phase out all purchases from Israaeli Arab companies in the area that support the destruction of Israel. Needless to say we shall continue to do business with Israeli Druze and Bedouin and Israeli christian companies that support Israel. Whilst I am in pronciple against 'boycotts' I believe the time has come for Israelis totake a stand. We can hurt them much more than they can hurt us!
50. In many cases it buy settlement goods or do without
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (05.22.10)
Israel blocks many goods that compete with settlement goods and makes it very hard for Palestinians to start their own companies. By blocking permits, imports of supplies and exports, in many cases a company must have a Jewish partner to start a company or move goods from one area to another to sell. Rich Palestinians is not something most Israeli want, since they are more likely to buy land than sell it.
51. it is the occupation stupid
Mohammad ,   USA/   (05.22.10)
Israel is insisting on being present at the jordan Valley in any peace treaty ....they claim that it is to stop the arm smuggling but the truth is : 1- to control the flow of the palestinians goods in and out to the arab and islamic world .. 2- prevent 1.5 billion Muslims to visit alaksa Mosque with paying fees to israel .. having said that .. the future Palestinian state will be richer than Kuwai and Qatar combined .Israel Knows that ...Fayad knows that ..we all know that ..even an average 4th Grader knows that . it is all about Money not Religion when it comes to the cousins .always been for 5000 years .. at the end of the day it will blow in Israel 's Face especially when the europians won't have the money to buy the nice Fruits grown in " temporarly occupied Yafa "
52. 51 mohammed...'occupation' is in the minds of those who hate
abraham ,   toronto   (05.22.10)
you should have thought about 'occupation' before your people launched Jihad agaisnt Israel
53. #32,39 accepting 47 partition good deed but breaching is not
observer   (05.22.10)
was that accepting a false flag operation? Yes, it was. how can anyone trust Jews after the guilt of WW II passed away, and the tricky acts have grown obvious?
54. # 53
Birdi ,   Israel   (05.23.10)
What are you doing on a Jewish website ? distorted as you are.
55. boycott
renee Kaminetzky ,   New York, US   (05.23.10)
Perhaps Haddassah hospital should boycott the use of bandages, medications and treatments for arabs?
56. #27 minor correction
(05.23.10)
You see that Israeli political leaders do what gains them the most American money and not what they are elected to do. Look at Ehud Barak and Ehud Olmert. They have nothing to say, yet they get millions on lecture tours in the US. The US bought and owns the Israeli leadership, not Israel.
57. retaliation
solemnman ,   israel   (05.23.10)
It's time to doff our halos .The odour of goodness, that Israel exudes,,that israel is addicted to, is an indulgence we can ill afford.Let Arizona be an example of how to behave.Their governor has made it clear that California's boycott will cause a cut off of the electricity Arizona supplies to that state.
58. Oh, yeah
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.23.10)
Absolutely. Ban entry into Israel for each and every one of those West Bankers. There's enough of a labor pool already Israel to make up the shortage. Let's see what the Palestinians do for themselves then. We know for a fact -- sixty-two years of fact -- that their Arab brethren will not come to their aid and their leadership will turn a blind eye and steal ever more money to pad their private bank accounts and purchase ever more luxurious homes in Europe. We've been watching this drama unfold for over sixty years. Besides, there is a huge market for Israeli and settlement produce in the United States. I live on the Upper West Side. Not exactly what you can call a Jewish neighborhood. The local grocery where I shop cannot keep Israeli melons in stock. They fly out the door. Israeli wines are gaining a high reputation. We'll have more of them now. And skhug? So hard to find in the U.S. I welcome anything that makes it easier. Grate a little fresh tomato into it, spread it on a slice of toast -- breakfast of champions. Trust me.
59. Buy from settlements
Eran ,   Singapore   (05.23.10)
We Jews/Israelis of Singapore have decided form now on to BUY from the list of products from the west bank settlements as a response to this stupid boycott joke. No more dates or Hummous from the boycotters. You rip what you sow.
60. To #58
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (05.23.10)
If that skhug you refer to in your last paragraph is the same as shakshukah, it's to die for! I had a visitor from Israel last month and since I'm a lousy cook, he made a big pan full of shakshukah out of desperation. It was so delicious, I've been living on my own interpretations of the stuff since he left. Just one caveat: Spinach doesn't add a thing, except a horrid, green color :-)
