5. Iron Dome is useless
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.21.10)
The defensive rockets cost far more than the attacking one. I can stop the rocket attacks in 24 hours given the chance. No more Gaza either.
6. Keep those letters comin', Michael Hess.
flyingdoc57 ,   Florida, U.S.A.   (05.21.10)
Your Israel-bashing letters to Obama, Congress, FBI, CIA and Sarah B's employer are having an effect. Unfortunately for you, the effect they're having is to expose the rabid hatred for Israel/Jews, and support for radical Islam, which exist in our own country. While hate-filled nutjobs like you, Hess, are bad, your devotion to exposing yourself as such is a very very good thing. Keep up the 'good' work, putz. The world needs more idiots like you to expose themselves for just who and what they are.
7. :: Three cheers for Obama!
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (05.21.10)
Isn’t it nice that Obama is getting more American taxpayers money to fund the 51st Jewish State of the USA? Of course all the Ynuts who have spend months racially slandering Obama will quietly accept this generous funding and support and bite their tongues, after all they can still call him ‘Obuma’ and a ‘Muslim in the White House’ after the money is in the bank. Israel could fully fund its own ‘Iron Dome’ project but hey why reject free handouts from Obama? After all it will only cost Israel further erosion of its so-called sovereignty. In truth nothing is ‘free’ not even the billions of dollars that the US pumps into Israel each year. Ultimately the cost for Israel will be acceptance of a two state solution based on the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative and the establishment of the State of Palestine beside Israel. While this solution is not cheap (for the US taxpayer that is) it will ensure Obama’s entry into the history books as the US Prez that established an overall peace agreement in the ME between Israel and the Arab States – after all Israel could never manage this feat by itself. Yep Obama is another Jimmy Carter pushing Israel along the road to peace, helping Israel establish peace treaties with neighboring countries. And to imagine that some Ynuts here think that Israel is in control of its own ‘destiny’?! Just sit back, relax, accept the US handouts and let Obama decide what is best for Israel - after all its not as if ye have a choice in the matter...
8. Something does not make sense.....
Abir ,   Chicago, IL   (05.21.10)
These Gazans make rockets that cost sub $20, and manage to terrorize Israel. And the response is the development of a multi-million dollar system to mitigate that threat....!!
9. JDAMs and mid-air refueling ok
Mongo ,   Paris   (05.21.10)
Iran threatens to destroy Israel in one week. Sounds eerily similar to Saddam´s war cries before being arrested. Israel remains quiet. I have a feeling that the current Iraninan leadership will suffer acute pain and humiliation soon.
10. Mistake
Joe ,   USA   (05.21.10)
Two hundred and five million is not much money for Israel. Now Obama will use this to boost is horrible image on Israel, and try to fool naive US Jews again.
11. Don't buy Hussein PR
Frank ,   Canada   (05.21.10)
He wants to prove American Jews that he is a friend of Israel in spite of his anti-Israeli policies. This funding is nothing in regard of what he did and what he intends to do.
12. "Star Wars" Fantasy. What is Needed Is:
Dallas ,   Canada   (05.21.10)
- a good arsenal of OFFENSIVE weapons because we all know that they will be needed for very quick and very effective counterattack against Iran and its proxies. Anything less and a strong Israel is just feel-good fuzzy leftist fantasy.
13. G-D Bless America!!!
Joseph ,   NYC   (05.21.10)
14. US better ally than Russia/China is for Iran
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (05.21.10)
The US pays for building defense system but Russia sells them without delivering S-300 system. Spending like this and on wars in ME are going to cost many congressmen their jobs in a few months so many will be looking for work in Jewish controlled companies soon.
15. Math.....4/410 =0.009756..Eat yr hearts out, usual suspects

Always a joy to read your posts Flyingdoc. Keep them coming.
17. This was planned before Obama!
Jay3 ,   Israel   (05.21.10)
Nothing to do with Obama....if he had his choice, ISrael would be destroyed! Obama cant go against past plans by congress, that Bush initiated, so know he is trying to take credit over something he cant stop. Dont be fooled by this anti zionist!
18. Decisions for the security of Israel should be taken in ...
Ron B. ,   Lod   (05.21.10)
Decisions for the security of Israel should be taken in Jerusalem not in Washington. Today the U.S. is doing everything it can to restrain Israel from hitting Iran’s Nuclear facilities – despite Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s frequent promises to “wipe Israel off the map”. Israel will not be allowed to refuel in or fly over Iraq (despite control by American forces) because the Arabists in the State Department say “No!” There is no argument that Israel can offer in terms of her vulnerability that will change their collective mind-set to allow Israel to defend herself. In order to understand the immediate danger to Israel : http://xrl.us/bizzs
19. "Flying Doc" must be wrong and we need
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (05.21.10)
to give credit to where credit is due: Michael Hess and his partner, Kandy Ringer, are the American letter writers responsible for all four of the members of the House who voted against this proposition. You and Kandy did well, Michael, and keep up the good work. Your consistency and persistence has been noted! In another six years, you'll convince another six.
20. Whats the political price Israel must pay for this
zionist forever   (05.21.10)
Obama may want to use Iron Dome funding to try and get political concessions from Israel and if he can then its been money well spent for him. It will probably go down very well in the peace camp. Obama has also been seen rightly as being anti Israel and this will give him an image boost. Iron Dome is a purely defensive system so the palestinians will have a hard time objecting unless they are going to say our rocket attacks this is supposed to protect Israel from are legitimate. He doesn't want terrorists trying to derail things with multiple rocket attacks forcing Israel to respond. They can fire rockets but if Iron Dome is shooting them down then Obama can say the rockets are being fired I know but they are not hurting anybody so I don't want you doing anything. If there is one thing we can be sure of Obama didn't recomend giving this funding because he has suddenly discovered he loves Israel.
21. Thank you, America, for helping us protect our lives in the
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (05.21.10)
face of Islamism and for assisting us to stand firm in the forefront of liberal democracy facing the dark forces east of us eager to overrun the larger civilization behind us, in the west. Thank you, members of the US Congress, for understanding the strategic assistance that Israel and its people provide, despite the lack of appreciation shown consistently by the US President who has been pushed into his odd hoc position by political wisdom shown by others in the US. And thank you, the people of the US, for standing shoulder to shoulder with the people of Israel in their defense of the very lives trying to avoid the kind of disasters brought about Americans by the bombers of the Twin Towers etc.
22. upgrade now
war monger ,   The meadow, EU   (05.21.10)
As we have heard, Iron Dome is only of use against flying objects which have a minimum size and which fly in a minimal altitude. Too small, too low? Bad luck for Iron Dome! What I mean: Buy/develop alternative systems for that purpose, asap. Plus develop your own bunker-busters, just in case.
23. A gesture to keep Israel from acting?
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (05.21.10)
In 2008, then Pres. Bush was trying to discourage Israel from acting against Iran. Since he would neither sanction an attack nor support it, he offered to station an X-band radar site on Israeli soil to watch for a potential attack. (Of course, it was a US-personnel only site, so the US could see everything Israel had in the air, and would tell Israel what it decided to.) Now the US is concerned Israel will act against a rapidly arming Hizbullah in Lebanon. No, it doesn't want another conflict there, as it would undermine the US "outreach" to the Arab and Muslim worlds. So here's a bone for Israel - a defensive system that, even if it can actually shoot down some missiles, will be easily overwhelmed by sheer number of attacking missiles.
24. Iran is going down. And soon.
Joey Rose ,   Portland   (05.21.10)
25. If it were only in Barakeh Hussein Obama's hands, I can't
John J. Hue ,   Cleveland, OH U.S.A.   (05.21.10)
believe the U.S. Congress would have approved this move. But fortunately, B.H.Obama, the disciple of Rev. J.Wright, while wilding a lot of power and authority, is not America yet. Indeed, his popularity in America is sliding dramatically, certainly among Christians and Jews but also among other members of the public. I thought the good people of Israel should know that and should rest assured that we, Americans, have elected the President for only four years.
26. THIS IS A DEAL IN RETURN FOR DELAYED IRAN SANCTIONS.
Jeff ,   Philadelphia   (05.21.10)
Everyone seems to be totally missing the point with this... Congress had already passed a unilateral sanctions bill that would totally isolate Iran's oil industry by banning any foreign entities investing in Iran's petroleum sector from getting US government contracts (ie sanctions that would actually do something, as opposed to the watered down nonsense that's currently slogging through the Security Council). The bill has been sitting in conference committee going nowhere for the last several months, most members of Congress have been wanted to reconcile it so that it could go to Obama for him to sign it, but the State Department has been putting tremendous pressure on them to stall it because Obama has preferred to do everything through the UN, and not unilaterally. Most of the pro-Israel members of Congress (including Democrats) are getting tremendously impatient with this, IT'S AN ELECTION YEAR, and so throwing money at missile defense is essentially what Obama is doing so that he can give Congress something positive to campaign on to deflect attention from the fact that they've been letting him totally kick the can down the road on Iran sanctions that are actually legitimately tough. The deal was "we'll give Israel money for missile defense, and in return, you can't complain about unilateral Iran sanctions getting delayed to favor the process in the UN." I suppose it's always nice to get extra military aid, but the fundamental question is whether or not it's worth it being used by Congress as an excuse to ease up pressure on Obama from passing unilateral sanctions on Iran (that might actually work) instead of just doing everything through the UN.
27. This Iron Dome is BS
Matityahu ,   Slovenia   (05.21.10)
And defence can be beaten, sometimes even by simple measures. The fact of the matter is, that it will solve nothing. It may prevent some mortars and missiles, but given the 2006 events, when thousands of rockets landed in Israel, the system is simply too expensive and ineffective against a great number of simultaneous projectiles. We all know what needs to be done. Instead of the IDF making small moves and then pulling out, a major offensive must be undertaken in Gaza and Lebanon, to create a buffer zone that's necessary for the safety of the Israeli state.
28. Iron Dome technology
Ilana   (05.21.10)
pushes Israel ever forward. A narrow tunnel type vision is Iron dome cost compared to qasssam missile costs. A wider vision would include the ever broadening technological capabilities of Israel, the sale of this and similar systems to various countries (some have already taken place), including the U.S. and western Europe along with others including some Asian ones.. There are other systems for others missiles. Iron Dome is not the only one.
29. Gullible American Jews:Obama husein stole your MONEY&VOTES!
John ,   NY   (05.21.10)
its in obama huseins interest to help Israel now just so he can steal more of your votes and money before Novembers elections! (Officials said this marked the first upgrade of an Israeli combat platform used in the war against Hamas in 2009. They said the Obama administration has REJECTED or WITHHELD approval for the procurement or upgrade of such platforms, including the AH-64 Apache attack helicopters, to prevent another war in the Gaza Strip. )
30. No real money offer. .
Sarah ,   Jerusalem   (05.21.10)
Didn't anyone see the paragraph next to the Chrome Google ad? "The vote did not actually free up any funds for Iron Dome, but put the US Congress on record as supporting the plan."
