Rabbi = Rabbit
62. real Debra the prophet was nice lady and she did
ghostq   (05.27.10)
he doen't even get close to what she did, sound like some stories in the bible escaped him, especially when I finded out that in Judaism is for equality between men and women, which is good, as it should be, I guess his wife made him troubles (jewish women remember every detail, damn, and they won't miss any chance to remind the bad doing... anyway) so he took a swing at other women.
63. #40 Mike from #25 Yitzchak
Yitzchak ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (05.27.10)
But Mike we have a serious problem here. Bible vs. democracy. God vs. man. This law of women not holding office is official Jewish law as dictated by God himself. See Rambam - Laws of government. So, I ask, are we above God? Do we know better than God? If you believe in God then the answer is NO. If you don't believe in God well then hey we can make up any rules we want.
64. #10 - Yeshiva Girl
Yitzchak ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (05.27.10)
Your talkback is written by a woman and I suggest that you go back and study the Torah already. Women NEVER "LED"!!! They "suggested", they "advised". they "told"... BUT except for Devorah, THEY NEVER "LED". Hey Yeshiva Gal, go check out Rambam - Hilchot Malachim - Laws of Governing.
65. Hava , 52 , we live in the 21st century now !
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.27.10)
This Rabbi based himself on Rav Kook's sayings . Fine . But now we live in the 21st century , the situation of women has changed since Rav Kook .
66. halachic or not
(05.27.10)
it has no place in a halachic state either. Please let the rabbis provide one example of Hashem's law, that isn't an interpretation of a man, that Hashem says that women should not? incapable of? not permitted to? be in a position of authority.

I never said I agreed with him; only that if you want to disagree, do it respectfully and not in the disgraceful way so many people here did. Learning to respect the opinions of those you disagree with is the only way you can have a civil society.
69. To Keren # 56
Ariel ,   São Paulo - Brazil   (05.27.10)
I'm an Bnei Akiva line. My sons learn at a orthodox zionist school here in São Paulo. This does not prevent me from having a critical view of everything that happens to Jewish orthodoxy (which is influencing the Rabbis of Bnei Akiva). If you are unable to see, that the Torah and the customs are modified according to the social reality of each season you are covering the sun with a sieve. This comment about women, is just the tip of the iceberg. If he could (and I'm talking about a rabbi Bnei Akiva) enforcing the laws of the Torah to all , you surely would be prohibited from writing this type of comment, because you are a woman.

Keren ,   IL-BR   (05.27.10)
Ariel, your comments seem to me to be more related to a kind of Reform,Reconstrucionism,or something similar, because for Jews(and "Orthodoxy"simply represents Judaism in its roots)Torah is not "modified according to the social reality of each season".Torah is Torah and it represents the Truth. "each season"should adapt to Torah and not the other way around ,because the "other way"is ruled by temporary "phylosofies"that not always belong to what G-d( that's what we believe) wants things to be. Torah is Jew’s eternal guide. As long as a Jew strives to follow “the other way”,Redemption-meaning true spiritual and material fullfilment-does not arrive. A Jew must follow their own roots and grow in them and not outside them with "personal opinions". There is not such a thing as "personal opinions"for us. What Jews who follow their roots understand for "personal opinions"is nothing else than a deepening in His will.
71. JUST BECAUSE HE IS A RABBI, DOESN'T MEAN HE'S RIGHT
JEWISH DOCTOR ,   NYC USA   (05.27.10)
ANOTHER BLOW AGAINST DEMOCRACY BY superstition, senility, ignorance, awful extremist fundamentalist dogma surrounding SHEEPeople who have their heads in the sand. SHAME ON YOU! Ariel ,   São Paulo - Brazil   (05.27.10)
Your comment is scary. "There is not such a thing as "personal opinions" for us."??????? Like I said before, and you just proved, this is just the tip of the iceberg. So good luck with your kind of life and remember CREATE RAVENS AND THEY'll EAT YOUR EYES
73. # 72 Ariel
Keren ,   IL-BR   (05.27.10)
" CREATE RAVENS AND THEY'll EAT YOUR EYES". This is a Spanish saying and does not belong to Jewish culture.
74. To Keren #73
Ariel ,   São Paulo - Brazil   (05.27.10)
Mi Col Melamedai Hiskalti (I learned from every sytudent i had) , belong to jewish culture? Or you prefer to learn from R Ishmael like this story : R' Ishmael rejects the results of the experiment, even if he has to use a far-fetched excuse, that the female embryos were implanted earlier, because of his exegesis on the Torah. To quote from the original: "[The Sages] told R' Ishamel: There was an incident where Cleopatra, queen of Alexandria, judged her maidservants to death. [The maidservants were isolated and inseminated; then] they examined them and found that both [male and female embryos] were fully formed at 41 days! He said to them: I bring you a proof from the Torah, and you bring me proof from the fools…It can be said that the females were implanted 40 days before the males. Then what about the Sages? [According to them, the maidservants] were given an abortificant. Then what about R' Yishmael? [According to his view,] there are those upon whom that drug does not work." (Niddah 30b). As he says , when he gives a proof from the Tora , this is the real true (have you ever ear this before in this talkbacks????) And to be honest with yourselve and to see how much things wrongs are in the Tora go to www.daatemet.org.il and answer the questions that they make. Good luck...
75. Hava 68 , Sorry
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.27.10)
You can have a "civilised" and respectfrull discussion with people who disagree with your opinion , that's correct . But will you also talk "respectfully" with our enemies ? Will you talk "respectfully" to people who ignore your rights as a woman ? To people who hate you ? To people who bring in lies or their ideologies , who deceive others ? I not .
76. #68 Hava
Paul ,   Trinidad   (05.28.10)
... and the godly rabbi deserves respect for.....? Demonstrating that judaism is no different from Islam in its treatment of women?
77. free women
dr daniel mostrel ,   paris   (05.28.10)
as a religeous jew i say i am ashamed by this rabbi and others too stop this disgrateful statements against the women the Torah never said this discrimination
78. Women
grandestgrandma ,   petach tikvah   (05.28.10)
I think this man should go back to cheder I am an orthodox as you would call it women went to bais yakov and it seems he did not get proper schooling go back in history and see how many Jewish women have saved the klal yisroel it's disturbing that every shmoi gets authority I do agree that it is not proper nor healthy for women to mingle with men but who says holding a position in office defines mingling there are very religious women holding important and successful positions so let him grow up and get educated. I wonder if his wife sits behind the wall everytime a man walk by
79. Rabbi Levanon gve your ruling in Levanon
Fay Crevoshay ,   San Diego   (05.29.10)
This 'rabbi" has no authority to ban but his daughters to run for office. He also does a terribleChillul Hashem bacuas he makes Torah people look like complete barbaric idiots. Hope women in that community ban him
80. Here you go,
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (05.30.10)
women in the orthodox community begin to open their "peh" against the rabbis. If so, what behaviour do you expect from secular citizens?
81. #79 Fay
YItzchak ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (05.30.10)
Excuse me! Are you an ordained Orthodox rabbi qualified to make a halachic determination as to what constitutes "Chillul Hashem"? I suggest you go read Rambam - Hilchot Malachim - Laws of Governing. (see my comments #63 and #64) If there is a Chillul Hashem here, it is YOUR preaching to those of us who live here and fulfill the great mitzvah of "Yishuv Hararetz" "settling the land" while you judge us from the comfort of your diaspora sofa? That's chutzpa and chillul hashem!
82. Rabi Levanon tzadak
Yossi ,   Eilat   (05.30.10)
83. #21 This is what it means to be a rabbi in Israel
Ellen ,   Arad, State of Anarc   (06.01.10)
You should see what happens during election time. They dictate and threaten their ignorant congregations that they must vote for religious parties. Often they are paid state rabbis. In 50 years Israel will be indistinquishable from Iran.
84. Why ask the rabbi in the 1st place?
Israeli taxpayer   (06.02.10)
The real root of the problemis the utter and totallack of separation between religion and state in Israel. Without such a wall, theocracy is just a matter of time.
