1. NO International Inquiry
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (06.08.10)
Any external board of inquiry would be a kangaroo court. Israel made one mistake that no country should make. Israel has to stop apologizing for every action, and she has got to stop making concessions and getting nothing in return. The building freeze was probably the greatest mistake that Bibi has made during his tenure. Israel has become the laughingstock of the world because Israel would not stand up and defend herself. People like Peres Olmert Livni and Ehud Barak has done more to damage Israel's deterrence factor than any other leaders in the history of Israel. Israel should immediately get back to deterrence factor and respect for other nations by doing the following. Refuse to go back to the peace talks. Israel should also attempt to replace the government of Jordan and make it into a Palestinian state since 80% of the population is Palestinian anyway. Israel should also create a public policy of mutual assured destruction designed to protect Israel and the Jewish people from destruction and threat. That policy would be design against any country that threatens to destroy Israel either militarily, economically, or physically. The same policy would be used to protect the Jewish population in any country of the world so that there is never any possibility of another holocaust. Again I stress that Israel must not succumb to pressures of the outside world for a international inquiry. No other country the world is being held in the highest standard. It would only invite more pressure on Israel, invite another war, and would only be a kangaroo court. http://ralphsrant1.blogspot.com
2. prof Yaalon????????????
john ,   jerusalem   (06.08.10)
Isn't this the same guy who lead our failure in the latest lebanon war against hizballah?? Prof yaalon can give lectures now but was also a failure when he was in power..our leaders are good talkers but little action and wisdome.Lets jyst say we screwed up.
3. to #2
David ben Yaakov ,   Toronto/Tel Aviv   (06.08.10)
Just to correct you, Lt. Gen Halutz was the commander of the IDF during the 2nd Lebanon War. Ya'alon's term was cut short by Sharon b/c he refused the IDF's participation is the withdrawl/evacuation of Gush Katif...
4. # 2
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (06.08.10)
Moshe Ya'alon had no role in the second Lebanese war. He was involved in the first major assault on Gaza and he succeeded. His military record is impa Moshe Ya'alon had no role in the second Lebanese war. He led the first clean up operation in the Gaza and he succeeded. His military record is impecable.
5. Well said General but how do we fix it?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (06.08.10)
This is not the first time that Israel has fallen into the Arab trap but it is going to go down in history as at least one of the worst screw ups in the short history of our country. What makes the matter worse is that our Seals were sent into harms way with "paint guns" and did no know what was waiting for them! This matter alone warrants a full Government Inquiry as those Seals, as are all our soldiers, are our children and are NOT expendable! Israel must do something about PR and the world is not interested in arrogant statements and ranting about Iran. We all know that our security and the security of the Jewish people is paramount but lambasting Iran is no substitute for dishing out to Turkey what it deserves. The Turks are using Israel as a scapegoat for their failure to be acceptable by the EU. Its own human rights record stinks but no one has raised the issue of its persecution of the Kurds and what it has done to the Armenian people and to the Greeks on Cyprus. Turkey was responsible of one of the worst genocides in history and Israel has shied away from bringing Turkish brutality into the fore! All Israelis know that this situation is hurting our little country and something must be done. There is a time for ideology but now is the time for common sense to prevail! A full inquiry must be held and its findings must implemented.
6. navy raid
Marcel   (06.08.10)
Yaalon's comments along with the navy captainss in reserve indicate that barak will be retired after the commission findings along with perhaps senior navy men. Moshe dann's article lists too many times where allegedly barak screwed up. yes he was in beirut as a commando and he was in entebbe and sabena all in small commando raids. But when it comes to commanding larger operations on land, he did not do well at all. Take the manner of lebanon withdrawal- he looked weak I remember. Take instances of him not helping-training accident, yacoub, chinese farm. Look at his paralysis when 2 soldiers were lynched in ramallah and that was pathetic. look at his pathetic do nothing approach in suicide terror. Even in cast lead, he hedged his bets and wanted to end early before hamas was bloodied. No, ladies and gentleman, barak is gone. Bibi keeps him because he was his commanding officer and bibi is insecure. The commision will find fault with barak for certain on this mission of signing off or advocating paintballs-another sign of weakness. Commandos wereliterally lynched within a inch of their lives and this schmuck says go in softly and underequips them. What if the worst case happens which it did.IDF shhould have sprayed the deck with paralysing gas. Instead commandos rapplled down in small numbers and were savagely beaten. The holocaust said we would not allow that again regardless of what the cowards in france europe and the us say. No fans, ehud barak's career is over. He may have even forced ashkenazi to agree with this dumb decision. A grade 8 student would not have agreed to paintball guns.
7. To #2: Check before your write!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (06.08.10)
Ya'alon was Chief of the General Staff BEFORE Dan Halutz who held that position in the Second Lebanese War! You owe him an apology. Let's see if YOU can admit fault!
8. #7 David, Karmiel
Michael ,   Haifa   (06.08.10)
Didn't you know that nobody in this country ever admits to faults ?
9. idf and barak
marv   (06.08.10)
a reporter for haaretz is alleging that the idf is furious that barak forced the commandos to enter the ship without their kalashnikoffs. Just like ramallah where barak did nothing in the case of israelis being lynched or his abysmal record in fighting terror, ehud barak is turning out to be one of the worst generals in israel's history. His paralysis and naievete are dangerous for israel. He will be dismissed or resign following the commission findings. Next to olmert, barak is a failure and israel's enemeies do not fear him. When effie eitam returns to a position of power, turkey will note his appointment and exercise more caution. With yaalon at defense and eitam backing him up, the islamic troika of turkey will be stricken with fear. israel is not going willingly to the gas chamber and if a fireball is wanted, the islamic region will get one.
10. "Someone" who answers to the name of
Uzziel   (06.08.10)
Ehud Barak.
11. Barak should take political responsability
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim,   (06.08.10)
B"H - Barak should take political responsability and be sent home for having sent troops down on the rope armed with toy paintball guns: unacceptable.
12. my apologied to prof Yaalon
john ,   jerusalem   (06.08.10)
thank you guys for correcting me... I screwed up...sorry
13. Sheyetet 13 are absoluteley heroes, that's not in doubt
Brian ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (06.08.10)
and yes they fought against horrible odds, but WHY!?!?!?! Why the hell, were they fast roped in one at a time, into an angry armed mob that out numbered them 10 to one, not even able to open fire until permission was given, that's the DAMN QUESTION!!!! Are nation was embarrassed, are military demoralized and are deterrence once again greatly eroded. The politicians and generals keep defending the troops, no one is attacking them they are heroes, WE ARE ATTACKING YOU IDIOTS!!!! SOME OF YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR ASSES KICKED HARD!!!! So much for those that want to replace Barrak with Ya'alon, I SURE AS HELL DON'T, I want them both kept out of military affairs, this fiasco was a damned disgrace, every time our worthless politicians blunder our soldiers bleed, this was a simple damn operation, SOMEONE NEEDS TO ANSWER FOR THIS, WE NEED TO UNF##K OUR MILITARY AND QUICK!!!!!!! MANY HEADS SHOULD BE ROLLING!!!!!!!!!!!! This was a damn disgrace, sickening.
14. IN RETROSPECT - YES !!!.
Arn. ,   SWEDEN.   (06.08.10)
"The fighting on the deck was heroic and took place under impossible conditions," he said, while adding that "there were some malfunctions during the planning and operational stages." IF INDEED ONE COULD KNOW THIS FROM START, THE PLANS WOULD HAVE BEEN OTHERWISE, AND CONDUCTED OTHERWISE. NO BLAME ON ISRAEL THOUGH !!!. Arn.
15. #2 IDIOT!!!
tanya ,   tel aviv israel   (06.08.10)
16. raid a failure
abraham sokol ,   scarsdale ny   (06.08.10)
Not realy a failure. It was bound to happend sooner or later. Now the big guns of Iran and Turkey want to go one step forward and instead of infiltrated NGO it would be the Gov against another government.
17. ya'alon's operational failure
moron ,   galut   (06.08.10)
resulted in injury to brave commandos--this is the only failure and not what israel's critics-among them its press-are complaining of
18. THE IDF'S MISTAKES
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne,   (06.08.10)
As far as I can see the biggest mistake that the IDF made was confusing the term 'Peace Activists' with 'Peaceful People'.When dealing with people supporting Islamic terrorists, this is a gross error. I suppose that it's comforting to know the the IDF can still have faith in human nature, but here it was misplaced. This first mistake led to the second one of not going in with sufficient force to discourage a violent encounter.Indeed,it was made known days in advance that there would be a soft approach. That was also a mistake. It's really bizarre to see that Israel is being criticised for not being tough enough to discourage violence.Oh well,in the arena of world opinion Israel's always wrong whichever option it takes,so why worry about it.? THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
19. # 15
Birdi ,   Israel   (06.08.10)
Tanya why call John an idiot? we are all human & we all make mistakes. You are out of line Tanya.
20. lousy soldiers
hp ,   austin, usa   (06.08.10)
Not only are they lousy soldiers, they are real lousy soldiers. I can't ever remembering a time when these third rate punks ever fought bravely and well. Every time they actually had to fight a real battle with someone like, well, you know who, they were whipped easily.. Maybe the newly issued piss proof underwear will help.
21. #13 -You hit the nail on the head!
Mark ,   Bergen, Norway   (06.08.10)
The leadership of the raid was able to produce alot of footage showing how brutal the passengers were, even if it was a nighttime raid at sea. This is much harder than stopping the vessel. And they managed to get hold of almost all footage showing how the passengers were injured. This requires alot of planning. The Floatilla 13 can't be this incompetent, not a chance. They must have had someone outside the IDF picking their tactics. And no, they are not disgraced by the recent Turkish photos. The photos show soldiers who faced impossible odds, nothing more.
22. and Kadima is still talking????????
Brian ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (06.08.10)
KADIMA IS JUST CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone who votes for Kadima is an ass!!!!!!!
23. Itzik....
Brian ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (06.08.10)
another rotten hag just like Livni, two of the very worst hags ever. They don't care about the nation at all, they are the worst most opportunist hags ever . So dumb the both of them, they never miss an opportunity to show how rotten they are. The criticisms from them are just crap, what would those two have done, I shudder to think.
24. Ian of Newcastle
David ,   NJUSA   (06.08.10)
Thanks for your support. We love Jordies
25. The doctrine of IDF should be expanded.
Keren ,   IL-BR   (06.09.10)
IDF should be divided into IDF,IOF,IPAF,meaning the tradicional "Israel Defense Force"plus "Israel Ofensive Force"and "Israel Pro Active Force". I mean,Israel should stop with only this defensive mentaly in the Army and start developing an ofensinve and a pro-active doctrine.
26. He missed the point
Jerrold Cohen ,   Seal Beach, USA   (06.09.10)
Ya'alon missed the point completely. The mission was a failure not because of procedural problems, but because this was one time when the entire world saw that Israel is a sadistic paranoid terrorist psychopath. Right in front of their eyes.
27. kadima and yaalon
alexi   (06.09.10)
Firstly, yaalon was not the chief of staff during the hezbollah war. Halutz was chief of staff and Mofaz was defense minister who overseed the lack of idf preparation for hezbollah asymmetrics. talk about cowardice and lapdogs-livni, hasson, idzik and boim sat there like slaves while ehud olmert cowered and hesitated and cried and lost 150 soldiers instead of allowing and encourageing the idf to regroup and take a surround and asymmetric approach to hezbollah farms and bumkers. Remember how pitiful the leadership was. Some nerve. Yaalon should wait for the commission. Barak forced the decision to use paintball guns and if he did not, I will formally apologize. Either way, he has to go. Kadima is th ebiggest collection of cowards next to meretz that israel has ever had.
28. Jerrold Cohen #26
(06.09.10)
u got it all wrong sir. israel ahs a duty to defnd its citizens by stopping the IHH a terrorist , not pacifist, organisation approached its shore. what the Navy did wrong is: 1-it did not send more experienced people than these youngsters. 2-didnt have CNN and BBC reports on board its helicopters. 3-did not use the special guns used to put animals to sleep as a defense weapon. IHH was condemned by the previous Turkish Government and proven by the French DGS to be linked to Jihadist movement.
29. I like it!!
The Phrophet ,   Iran   (06.09.10)
The whole thing was heroic. Yet the rats have started jumping the ship. Wonder why. May be the propaganda has failed. It was a good try though. Nathanyahu, has an alibi, he was the first to jump. Now this moron, next Barak and .... May be Abbas ordered the operation? Can we hold him responsible and kick his butt!!
30. The missing point in my super important opinion
Jerrold Cohen ,   Seal Beach, USA   (06.09.10)
The most important point in my pompous opinion is that I have to bash Israel and Zionism on every opportunity I have regardless of topic or who is right or wrong. I simply have this itching urge, day and night non-stop. In conclusion I ask anyone to take my point in #26 with more than a few grains of salt
