32. #20 Top notch soldiers/heroes
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (06.09.10)
hp, you should know even our elite U.S. Marines and "Seals" are ambushed sometimes. This "Love Boat" had aboard some 50+ mercenaries trained by Al Qaeda. The Israeli mistake was believing that this boat #6 was like the other 5 that peacefully surrendered. It turned out to be a Trojan horse. Nevertheless, the Israelis achieved their goal of stopping the boat from breaking the blockade. One soldier was an absolute hero - saving his wounded comrades while "taking out" 6 of the 9 terrorists all by himself.
33. Kadima is misfiring
Brod ,   USA   (06.09.10)
Why should Kadima be ashamed of Israel for sending its soldiers to protect the nation from external intrusions? The nation should be proud of its government and soldiers for its strong action against external entities that are trying to undermine Israel's security. It is time Kadima learns to defend the government and the nation's armed forces rather than being on the side of external forces that are barking at Israel.

35. im not so sure, if yaalon is "responsible"
eporue ,   europe   (06.09.10)
the decision making was guaranteed with bibi, and the full cabinet. im not sure, if the responsibilty for results of previous decisions, operations, or events are passed onto the proxi, just because the PM was clever enough to pretend a meaningless meeting and steak in canada... yaalon isnt more responsible, than the other cabinet members. main responsibles are PM and DM. jmho.
36. Historian claims Hitler escaped from Spain to Patagonia

37. Jerrold Cohen #26: I corrected
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (06.09.10)
you when you used the same terms describing the state of Israel on a Maan News post but you don't seem to learn or you don't want to learn. The terms "paranoid" and "psychopath" refer to individuals, not nations, and their proper definitions can be found in the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Psychiatric Disorders. As you maintain that you have a PhD in Educational Psychology and a retired healthcare worker, perhaps you have simply forgotten all that you have presumably learned. The most noted modern expert on "psychopathy", incidentally, is Dr. Robert Hare of UBC. In addition to the copious amount of research he completed, he also wrote a popular book on the subject. I recommend you read it in order to assist with your (lack of) credibility. As to the term "paranoid", given all the posting you have constantly written against the state of Israel, as well as the contents of your website and your professed hatred of Judaism (the religion of both of your parents), I would diagnose you, yourself, as having a "Paranoid Personality Disorder". Now, as you know, Jerrold, personality disorders are excruciatingly difficult to alter, especially in seniors, like yourself, whose worldview has been crystallized for so long that no amount of rational discourse will ever dislodge you. Nonetheless, this post should assist others in being aware of the predictability and extent of your own psychiatric disorder, how you have turned against your own people (most recently, donating money and helping to organize the "freedom flotilla"), how much you enjoy being accepted by the world of Jew haters in your isolation and alienation from your own original family. From an emotional perspective, I would say you are "poverty-stricken", Jerrold.
38. Re: NO International Inquiry
Solange   (06.09.10)
The author of the comment is correct that it would be a kangaroo court. That is because it would defeat the purpose of holding an inquiry, if IDF soldiers dont have to be interrogated. The author of this comment needs to quit perpetuating Israeli apologetics. Israel was wrong, and that is a bitter pill for them to swallow! http://solangeunedited.wordpress.com/
39. What needs to be done
Naor ,   USA   (06.09.10)
The only thing that needs to be done, is make sure that when the next flotilla comes, we send Ehud Barak with all of his infinite wisdom to storm the boat with a paintball gun. Then maybe we'll have the brains to put someone worthy in his position.
40. Cowardly putz
S. Michael ,   Carversville, USA   (06.09.10)
He abuses the Turkish ambassador and blames others for his mistakes. Not only he should go, but his employer, Bibi, should be outahere.
41. Oh dear! Passing the buck already!
Harry Wright ,   UK   (06.09.10)
Two heads have to roll for sure - Ya'alon's and Barak's. Surely, Ya'alon must know that in the absence of Netanyahu he is the de facto Prime Minister. Seems like he is clueless about his responsibilities when he is acting as Prime Minister. What if Netanyahu was confined to bed? Ya'alon would have just stood and wrung his hands and let the state run itself indefinitely? Which is exactly what happened because the Ag PM is incompetent. Where was his voice all along? He just crawled out of the woodwork. As the Defense Minister, Barak has to take FULL responsibility because he endorsed the plan of action. He certainly did not sign a blank cheque. Maybe he could get Obama to put in a good word for him since he says everything that Obama wants to hear.
42. "I warned of this before the operation"
Gur   (06.09.10)
Not good enough, is it. And why is Barak perennial loser and incompetent still around?
43. Am I CRAZY??
Yitzchak ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (06.09.10)
The only failures that I see here are that 1) some of our guys got hurt and almost killed and 2) our guys didn't kill every one of them holding a club or a knife!!!
44. # 37
Birdi ,   Israel   (06.09.10)
Perfect post Robert. Kudos to you.
45. idiots #3,4,15
observer   (06.09.10)
do you consider the 1996 shelling of Qana filed, massacring 106 & wounding 116, not a flaw in the Israeli military record as a whole?, least to say Yaalon's military history.
46. BARAK is to blame and he should be replaced
Avi ,   Geneva   (06.09.10)
He was "Min. of Defense". This mess up was just his style - self-imposed weakness, retreat without cause, etc. Get rid of him, Israel, if you want to survive. He is a curse upon us.
47. How much straw
Yossi. D. ,   Israel   (06.09.10)
How much straw and gravel we should eat from the hands of this man, Ehud Barak, just because decades ago he was fortunate to get a picture with a pistol on the wing of the Sabena? How come that this rusty gun puffs up for decades the career of this failed man?
48. Moron #45
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (06.09.10)
First, the Qana incident was perfectly legal as it was an automated response to a Hezbolla rocket attack from next to the civilian target. It was far more legal than Obama's massacres in Afghanistan, for instance the murder of the baby granddaughter of one of his opponents. In any case, the strategy during the Qana incident was invented by none other than Ehud Barak. Another reason to fire him. The army (including Ya'alon) was against that strategy, but was ordered to use it by extreme Leftist Shimon Peres who wanted to appear tough for Israeli elections. The world did not make an issue of the dead because they figured that 106 dead was a reasonable cost to get Peres elected. Fortunately, he lost because Israelis aren't impressed by him.
49. again disinformation
tanya ,   tel aviv israel   (06.09.10)
cabinet knew for a coule of weeks before about flotillia
50. Operation could hjave been better executed
Michael   (06.09.10)
This is a case of an operation poorly executed in spite of the fatal provocation and resistance by the IHH self proclaimed martyrs
51. #5 no other holocausts before thee
observer   (06.09.10)
The Knesset decided to shelve a proposal for a parliamentary discussion on the Armenian genocide, in compliance with PM Ehud Olmert's request. The state of Israel does not officially recognize the Armenian Genocide, despite the fact that the Jews themselves were victims of a similiar genocide for which Adolf Hitler himself used the Armenian massacres as an example. Turkey has not only warned Israel of cutting off ties if it recognizes the killings as genocide, but also said that ties would be harmed if the United States recognizes it as genocide When the Anti-Defamation League, recognized the killings of Armenians as "tantamount to genocide", it prompted Turkish protests against the State of Israel. The ethics of the Knesset & morality of the army blocked the recognition of the Armenian holocaust.
52. #48 then why Butcher of Qana banned from Capitol Hill
observer   (06.09.10)
Yaalon ordered the firing 38 artillery shells measuring 155 mm at the UN compound in the village of Qana, Lebanon where 800 civilians took refuge; against intertnational law & war crime. the timing and intensity of the attack, the absence of a military target, as well as return strikes on rescuers, suggest that Israeli forces deliberately targeted civilians. Human Rights Watch found no cases in which Hezbollah deliberately used civilians as shields to protect them from retaliatory IDF attack. HRW & Journalists, rescue workers, and international observers who visited Qana on July 30 and 31 saw no evidence of Hezbollah military. Ya'alon is currently facing a civil suit in US Federal Court on charges stemming from his involvement in the Qana attack. He is on the list of wanted in Spain and New Zealand. In 2002, Yaalon ordered a one-ton bomb to be dropped on a house in Rafah, Gaza, in order to assassinate Salah Shehadeh. The bomb caused the deaths of 15 people including 9 children, and injured dozens more. Bombing neighborhoods where civilians live is forbidden under international law and is considered to be a war crime.
53. Volkan read Hurriyet Ozdemir Ince today
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (06.09.10)
I can understand your anger based on emotions but there are also some facts that you must consider. First start by reading one of your intellectuals Ozdemir Ince: http://www.hurriyet.com.tr/yazarlar/14969661.asp?yazarid=72&gid=61 then let me ask you this. If someone breaks into your home in the middle of the night and you wake up to see a burglar. When he sees you he attacks you with a piece of furniture that he grabs but you grab the sharp knife in your kitchen and stab him to dead. Now are you the bad guy or is it the burglar? The whole world know that Gaza was under a blockade by Israel and Egypt and Israel would not allow these ships to get to Gaza. All other ships surrendered peacefully. And in Mavi Marmara only Turks were injured, all other nationals must have been more peaceful. Think about it. And try to be fair. And also: In 1972 Israeli ambassador Efraim Elrom was killed in Turkey. At that time Israel did not stop diplomatic relations with Turkey even though Turkish government was negligent in protecting the ambassador. Strangly after this incident Turkey cut all diplomatic relations with Israel until Turgut Ozal became PM. As you see even in worst cases Israel tries to stay friends with Turkey. Unfortunately the AKP administration is responsible of the bad relations of today.
54. Lesson for Commandos
Brod ,   USA   (06.10.10)
It looks terrible to see Israel's elite Commandos being beaten up by thugs. This would never have happened had they been more prepared. The fact is landing on a ship full of belligerents should not be treated as landing on a picnic. They should have expected the worst such as thugs waiting to attack them. The moment they see the thugs converging on them with clubs and knives, they should have fired at the attackers with UZI submachine guns. What were they thinking? Were they thinking that they would be greeted as friends? They should have expected that they were landing on a hornet's nest that was ready to attack them.
55. #54 elite arrogance should be added, not subtracted?
