4. Turkey is no democracy
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (06.19.10)
Just like the rest of the Arab world and Venezuela and the attempt by the former president of Honduras to overthrow their constitutional government and become a dictatorship. How pathetic can these fascists get?
5. He had to let it happen, He had to change
oferdesade ,   israel   (06.19.10)
Do these people not see what is happening? can't they make it stop on their own? Is the slide into repression one that is unavoidable? When will the protests break out - after he steals an election so blatantly that even they can no longer deny what's become of them? if to become king of the lepers you need to become a leper, wouldn't you rather simply not be king? is regional dominance so important you need to play by iran's rules? syria's? do the turks really want to become just one more islamic theocracy?

10. We can expect Obama to try something similar.
rebourn ,   arad israel   (06.19.10)
More and more Americans are becoming increasingly worried about Obama's extreme left wing policies and they have good reason. He was an active member of the New Party (communist) just 13 years ago and now he's out to try and control the media .. http://www.ourchangingglobe.com/does-obama-want-to-control-the-media-all-the-media-including-the-internet/ The Internet needs to be put under his control so that he can shut down parts of it for up to thirty days in the case of a cyber attack - yes, we all believe that. And he wants to start subsidizing newspapers and we all know where that would lead. He'll most likely become next to powerless in November which means he won't be able to do any more harm to the America or its allies, but it also means that the country will have to limp along for two years whilst it sinks deeper and deep into debt.
11. waxing dictators begin by amending constitution
bernard ross ,   st anns bay jamaica   (06.19.10)
12. Ah yes #10, Obama must be a commie Turkey parrot
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (06.19.10)
Yep, we can definitely expect Obama to copy Erodogan. Yessirree indeed, Obama is going to parrot Turkey. (and with some diced onions and chilli sauce sauteeed for 20 mins on medium heat might tast just great!) But #10's best line was how Obama is going to pilot America "whilst it sinks deeper and deep into debt. " Whoops! He forgot that it was Bush who put America deep into debt, not Obama.
13. Bye bye 'democratic' Turkey!
Lee ,   Manchester UK   (06.19.10)
how long does NATO think it can have a terror sponsoring state in it's midst?! Turkey sounds more like Iran with every day that passes.
14. #9 - I hope! That's best for the world
William ,   Israel   (06.19.10)
Turkey illegally occupies both and oppresses the people there greatly. Cyprus needs to be re-united and sovereign, and Kurdistan needs to come into being as a ancient homeland of the Kurds.
15. #12 - Brian, it was Clinton who set the stage for US debt
William ,   Israel   (06.19.10)
The real debt we see today comes from two sources: 1) the Internet bubble burst which caused all of the fake valuations to be normalized which brought real GDP way down....beginning in 2001. 2) The Dems under Clinton pressured the banks to ease lending requirements so every can own a home, even the poor who probably couldn't pay it back. As a result, real estate prices climbed, people bought houses they could not afford, and the entire bubble burst. 3) Clinton signed the NAFTA agreement which was to allow free trade and a larger, stable economy. Rather, it sent US jobs to Canada and Mexico and made the US an importer. All Bush did was spend heavily on a war, and that's only partial of what drove the US economy straight down.
16. Well duh, William, it's all Bill Clinton's fault?!?
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (06.20.10)
The real debt we see comes from the fact that guys like you don't know how to count. Yea right, two sources and 3 points. Duh!?!? 1) the bubble burst in 2000, meaning Bush had 8 years in office to fix the debt. He didn't. 2) The mortgage crisis came from banks selling junk mortgages and Bush's refusal to impose regulation on the fat cat bankers. 3) NAFTA send jobs to Canada? You wanna check with the Canucks about that? And don't forget that Republicans just luv cheap labor and not paying taxes, so Republican controlled big business is more than happy to screw their fellow Americans and export the work to Mexico. All Bush did was piss away 8 years on excuses blaming other people for his incompetent leadership. It wasn't Clinton who left America impoverished, it was Bush. Trying to blame Clinton for Bush's screwups is pretty lame. Bush had more than enough time to set things right, but it was his choice to overspend and invade Iraq looking for the non-existent weapons of mass destruction. Sure, it's nice that Saddam is gone, but at the price of bankrupting America?
