1. WTF!
Johnny ,   Aberdeen   (06.21.10)
You can't just demolish people's houses. This is sick.
2. To #1 Yes you can if they are illegal
ezer   (06.21.10)
Even in Aberdeen, illegal structures get demolished.
3. Strange!
Ricardo Macher ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (06.21.10)
How strange! Meretz once again siding with arabs against Israel! Anybody has any idea about why this ALWAYS happen? As per #1, do you have any idea what you are talking about?
4. if this is true I'm joining Hamas

5. #1, where I live you have get a permit to do anything
yehoshua ,   usa   (06.21.10)
Here in the good old "free" USA I can't do anything to my land, house etc w/o getting a permit, and I mean anything. You can't even paint the house the color you want. If I tried to even build a shedd w/o a pemit it would get buldozed before you could say "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE"
6. totally innaccurate
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (06.21.10)
Who wrote this article? The neighborhood "al-Bustan" means "the fruit grove" because throughout history and recently under Turkish, British and Jordanian rule it was illegal to build there. Under the failed Leftist Israeli rule, Arabs stole the land, ruined a priceless green and archeological treasure, and illegally built a total of 90 illegal houses. Suddenly everyone forgets "the rule of law" that was so holy yesterday and Barkat not only legalizes the crimes of all but 22 thieves, but he approves giving all 22 alternate plots of land. It is no wonder that Johnny of Aberdeen does not understand and hates Israel. Remember, if the thieves had been Jews and not Muslims they would be immediately sent to jail, like we saw in the Emanuel incident.
7. Yes you can.
Jason ,   US   (06.21.10)
Eminent domain.
8. To #2 #5
Abed   (06.21.10)
Except for illegal Israeli settlements!!! never demolished, never need a permit....
9. #4 You want to join a losing cause ??
Joey Rose ,   Portland   (06.21.10)
10. #2 I proclaim your house to be illegal...
Nour ,   Palestine   (06.21.10)
I give you 1 hour to vacate, prepare for your house to be totally flattened. I do not care where you go, nor do I care that people of your race and religion are NEVER given construction permits anyway. How do you like that? And afterwards, I will send you the demolition bill. How's that for sick?
11. East Jerusalem is arab capital. Need no permit
Josh   (06.21.10)
Why Arabs need to ask Israel a building permit? East Jerusalem is occupied according to International community. Leave Arabs alone. Build Negev if you need space.

better observer ,   usa   (06.21.10)
The San Remo Treaty, Mandate for Palestine - Covenant of the League of Nations and the UN Charter ALL state that the land west of the Jordan River belongs to the Jews and cannot be given to any other government or group. Can you name a SINGLE international law or treaty that gives the Arabs any claim to the land?
13. Arab houses in Western Jerusalem
observer   (06.21.10)
there are Palestinians, among them those who live in East Jerusalem, who have title deeds to homes in Talbieh, Old Katamon, Baka, and other neighborhoods in the western part of the city. The name Baka, was taken directly from the Arabic word meaning 'Valley', which of course is an indication of the topography of the area. It was established in the 1920s when wealthy Muslim and Christians families decided to build homes in that attractive valley – Baka – and beautiful private homes they were. Virtually entire Christian and Muslim population of Jerusalem was forcefully expelled from the Jewish occupation zone in 1948.
14. another israeli provocation
US ,   USA   (06.21.10)
Israel trying to absorb the Flotilla Fiasco ,they eased Gaza to hide their Piracy face ..to come up with another theft ..a different ugly face . i don't think the Israeli would dare to demolish a wall(not 22 houses ) in east Jerusalem .. time for MR Barakat to realise that he doesn't belong in east Jerusalem .. the world calls you shamless occupiers .
15. #12 Better Observer
Baffled   (06.21.10)
You and I know that international law supports Israel's ownership of the land west of the Jordan. What is baffling in the extreme is that the government!!!! is silent about this. It's as if you knew you have a legal title for your property in YOUR name, but you chose not to say anything about it when others call you an occupier. But considering what governments are like - it's even more baffling how informed Israelis ALSO remain silent about it. Or if they mention it at all, they choose not to do anything about it. Very strange. What is going on? Any ideas?
16. #13, as usual, you provide no proof to back up your claims
