31. illegal action by stoping the attempts 4 breaking the embrgo
Galut ,   Selah   (06.29.10)
baloney --- the history of the gaza blocade is once Israel left gaza in 2005 they almost imediatly started launching qassams ...after much pleading from the israeli government to stop qassams and sucide attacks on israeli civilian centers ....israel took the step of shutting down the flow of weapon making materials.... the floatillia was designed to provoke most on the upper deck appear to have been weilding clubs (weapons) and definatly not exhibiting the role of peaceful protesters....and many of them have connections to radical islamist organizations...

34. Turkish hypocrisy
A_kurd ,   Rotterdam Netherland   (06.29.10)
The turks are siding with palestinians when they are propagating the destruction of Israel. But when kurds ask to secede territory where kurds make a majority, they answer by killing 45.000 people, burning 3000 villages and displacing 3 million ethnic kurds. Even when kurds want to secede from another country, like Iraq; they threaten to invade it. My message to the Israelis is to let Erdogan bark.
35. My assessment of the interview
mea   (06.29.10)
It is unfortunate the writer left off the opportunity to make a deeper analysis of the interview, which could have pointed out that the main thrust of the questions by Rose were an attempt to get Erdogen to own up to "facing the east" and responding to the decades old sunning of Turkey by the EU by making new and dangerous alliances with Syria and Iran. This is an important--perhaps the MOST important relationship in the world at the present moment. Turkey has the second healthiest and growing economy in the world and sits in a unique relationship to the west and the east, and because of that position, stands to gan hugely by brokering relationships between other countries. The EU has cost the world a great deal of trouble in the future by refusing to allow Turkey into the Union. Although Erdogen strongly rebuked Rose's suggestion that he is condemning Israel's response to the Flotilla Raid as a means to "gain credibility on the arab street", the fact is, this is true and it is dangerous. Over and again, the west "manufactures" new and dangerous enemies each time we deny leaders an opportunity to come into the fold. Obama should take this opportunity (while Erdogen is visiting) to make strong demands for Turkey's acceptance into the EUnion, before it is too late. Turkey is soon into a position of stepping infront of the US's alliance with Israel and inflaming tension to a dangerous point. This is the new "northern front". I suggest going to PBS.org and watching the interview for yourselves.
36. IHH calls commando raid 'terrorist attack'
African ,   Africa   (06.29.10)
Yes... a terrorist attack - BY TURKS
37. Erdogan propagating for terrorist
noah ,   TX   (06.29.10)
Hamas was given an opportunity to govern when they were elected, Hamas and others opted to use their governance to launch attacks against Israeli civilians. Erdogan sounds like he is fishing for support now that most people know his governments support for these terrorist and role in provoking the violence that led to the deaths of 9 people onboard that ship. The people responsible for their deaths are Erdogan and his goons IHH. They try to create facts (lie) and make the israelis out to be the terrorists when they engage in terrorist activities themselves in an effort to deflect blame and responsibility for these acts against Israel. Just like how the UNHR Council operates: deflects attention away from the council members own grotesque human rights abuses by only focusing on Israel.
38. Backpedaling
Steve ,   Boston   (06.29.10)
After a public rebuke by the US, Erdogan is backpedaling as fast as he can. Being a hero to Islam apparently isn't as lucrative as he originally thought.
39. I agree, the man is crazy and he makes us all
Judith C. Feldman ,   Boston, MA USA   (06.29.10)
look at the Turkish state as crazy. The only people who are impressed by him are the Islamists and possibly President Obama.
40. So stupid..
Adva ,   Israel   (06.29.10)
Erdogan, last time I checked Israel was a free country based on democracy, that means that the israelies choose it's leaders. So Bibi was chosen by the israeli people as their leader. How stupid are you to contradict yourself time after time?? Bibi and it's government represent the israeli people, how does the israelies are still turkey's friend but the israeli government is not??
41. Turkey and Norway have developed close...
Norway   (06.29.10)
cooperation, not least through NATO, where the two countries for many years have shared views on many common challenges. Now Turkey is hosting Ahmadinejad, advocating for Iran's nuclear program, developing an Iranian oil field, transferring Iranian arms to Hezbollah, openly supporting Hamas, viciously condemning Israel, and turning Turkish public opinion against the USA. Turkey Deploys Air Defense System To ‘Defend’ Syria, Iran Against Israel Raids: The Turkish daily Hurriyet quoted a military source as saying that “this move aims at repelling a US or Israeli attack against Iran or Syria.” (asbarez.com, May 13th, 2010). Turkey is definitely not a friend of Israel, moreover, Turkey should be kicked out of NATO.

Mark G ,   USA   (06.29.10)
I know you will say to cross the pond contributor. BUT please fellows don’t trust people like him, Erdogan will do anything to get close and back stub you. Erdogan Turkeys problem don’t make him yours problem he is almost alone besides loonies like him around. I really don’t think his country supports him in majority.
46. Backtalker philosphy - criticize everything about Turkey
Observer ,   U.S.A.   (06.29.10)
From all the responses below, it looks 100% agreement that Erdogan and everyone that participated in the Flotilla is a terrorist and that Israel should probably bomb Turkey so that there is no more criticism from there. Bin Laden would be proud of you.
47. #16 - I hope you are right and that the AKP is finished!
(06.29.10)
Hopefully the seculars in Turkey can restore some sanity.
48. Now if only this Charlie Rose

weaponry, tactics, and intelligence. Any provision of assistance to Turkey today, however, could be akin to transferring it to Hamas, Sudan, or Iran. Does President Obama really want to deliver the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter which comes with an Elbit-made helmet to a hostile Turkey, as promised, in 2014? The helmet, specially designed for JSF manufacturer Lockheed Martin, allows pilots to see all of the plane's systems and flight data on a heads-up display inside the helmet without having to look down at a control panel. And now Turkey closes its airspace to Israeli military flights in the aftermath of the Mavi Marmara incident (www.todayszaman.com). NATO wants missile shield to protect Turkey, all of Europe (www.todayszaman.com). However, Turkey's leader rejected a U.S. appeal to deploy a NATO missile shield that would block an Iranian attack on Europe. The Turkish daily Milliyet reported that "Ankara does not want to be a target of Iran's missiles while trying to become a shield for NATO" (World Tribune, February 17, 2010). 50. Turkey friend of Israel
bshea ,   CT, USA   (06.29.10)
This is nonsense! If Hamas and terrorist associates (IHH included)lay down their weapons we have peace in middle east. If Israel lays down its weapons we have no more Israel. Check the facts
51. With friends like this who needs enemies?
Yossi   (06.29.10)
52. yea
John ,   USA   (06.30.10)
I guess when Israel realizes it needs to stop treating non-jews as trash of the earth then we can actually move on with peace.
53. :: #46 Is there anything positive to say about Turkey?
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (06.30.10)
You and your ilk from Turkey and other Muslim countries come to a Jewish website and criticize everything about Jewish Israel, no matter what the news of the day is. If you don't like what you read here then go to Muslim websites and find out if there is any hint of self criticism, or better yet go jump off of a bridge.
54. Give Hamas a chance...to do what?
LogicalDave ,   Baltimore, MD   (06.30.10)
They were elected and have had years to govern; instead they've declared war on their nearest neighbor and split the Palestinian people by force while they gradually impose their harsh Islamic law on the populace...what exactly does Mr. Erdogan want to give them a chance to do? Destroy Israel and kill all Jews as their charter demands? Erdogan is a dangerous hypocrite; while defending poor oppressed Hamas, he brutally subjugates the millions of Kurds in southern Turkey, not even allowing them to speak their own language! Erdogan is attacking Israel to distract from his brutality at home; he is in no position to lecture others about oppression or morality.
55. Turkey still friend to Israel. "Give Hamas a chance."
Ernest ,   USA   (06.30.10)
A friend is definitely better than an enemy. It's said that the Hamas Charter calls for the destruction of Israel. If to have the support of a friend is to help, how would it be best to have the support of PM Erdogan in helping to resolve the situations involving Gaza? Israel had the disengagement of Gaza. The elections did render Hamas the official PA Authority party to govern there. Infighting between Hamas and Fatah have dealt tragic consequences. There are reasons some Palestinians chose Hamas over Fatah. A note worth mentioning at this point, Fatah was once considered a terrorist organization. Maritime vessels carrying weapons had been confiscated off the coast of Gaza previously. Due to the hostile environment being presented in Gaza, a blockade was enacted to not allow the free reign of weapons coming into Gaza threatening the lives and livlihoods of Israelis and at times Palestinians themselves. It's well known that for years, thousands of missles coming from Gaza rained down into southern Israel. Measures had to be taken to try and limit these devices and material that was being allowed into Gaza from being used to make these devices from reaching Gaza. The issue of items that were being allowed into Gaza has been revised. The PR efforts to introduce these items wasn't being made obvious enough. It would have been better if the flotilla clash would not have happened. But, being that Israel, in an order to safeguard inhabitants lives, has the responsibility of stopping, as much as possible, armaments from entering Gaza. Israel is not at war with Gaza neither does it want to be. The intentions of stopping weapons going into Gaza is not ill-will intended for the people of Gaza. More land entry crossings have been opened and and the port in Ashdod is available to remediate an inspection process. The goods still have the potential to reach their intended recipients, the people of Gaza. It could be said that by Israel looking to ensure that no weapons, for example missles, get into Gaza, keeping them from being fired into Israel, keeps from carrying out retaliatory strikes at these "tunnels" where sometimes Palestinians have died, God will have mercy on the innocent, actually helps save Palestinian lives. The IDF soldiers descending onto the deck of the Mavi Marmara were attacked while they were there only to insist and ensure, for precautionary reasons, the Mavi Marmara dock at the Ashdod port and the transportation of activist and cargo would be forthcoming. This safer way of conducting commerse should be welcomed. The whole "tunnel" transportation systems can be a dangerous one anyway. If PM Erdogan would be able to comment on the Israeli IDF hostage Hamas has imprisoned in Gaza, Gilad Schalit, his comments would be very intently heard. There needs to be more meetings for the negotiations.
56. We don't want your friendship, Erdi.

Is this . gut stupid or what. Israel has a legal blockade under International law and is entitled to stop minspect and use force . This vessel was a media stunt and the right thinhking people now can see it for what it was. I just wish the media was a little smarter.
