4. This is why my daughter and son-in-law
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (07.15.10)
insist on raising my granddaughters in Israel: They will know who they are! Congratulations to all you female combat soldiers. You make an old man feel proud.
5. impressive ! kol hakavod to our fighter girls !
(07.15.10)
6. Wrong
Tony ,   Melbourne, Australia   (07.16.10)
Girls in combat is just wrong. Women should not be involved in killing people. I am not a sexist or anything, I just believe that women should be protected not armed and sent to war. What if they get killed or captured! Non-combat roles are ok for girls but this is wrong.
7. Praiseworthy but VERY frightening
iObserver and News ,   USA   (07.16.10)
As a natural, humanly inherent disposition, I find it terrifying that our women are in such dangerous positions, despite their obvious abilities and success. As a Jew, we are taught by the Torah that women are not beholden to time constraining mitzvoth out of compassion. This is naturally inherent in the Jewish mind-set and has ingrained itself in the Jewish psyche: women are to be cherished and revered. As such, I find it very difficult to get past the idea of our most precious assets (after whom which a Jew is identified: maternally) being in any sort of danger. Once again, the Jewish female has gone above and beyond the level of self sacrifice any women in the world has ever reached. But I'm only more frightened knowing this and have more fear for their well being. May our ayshis chail always remain safe and live beautiful, long and abundant lives.
8. Tell me where to send it. I'll buy them a huge TV
John S ,   Houston USA   (07.16.10)
Where can we send support to these ladies??
9. Great story
oxo ,   USA   (07.16.10)
This is a great human interest story, very well written. May the angels of G_d accompany every woman in this outfit now and throughout the future, giving them all the protection and all the success they seek.
10. You go, Girls!
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (07.16.10)
When my son brought home his future wife, a new enlistee in the US Air Force, I wondered just how desperate our military was to take such dippy, scatterbrained girls. The girl, who showed up after basic training and a year at Elmendorf, Alaska, was a lot of things, with dippy and scatterbrained no longer anywhere in sight. This young woman was self-assured, had acquired a dry sense of humor, extensive computer skills and I would not have wanted to be another soldier, friend or foe, telling her that her uniform made her derriere look big. The change was simply amazing.
11. But why women only?
Ilan ,   Ariel   (07.16.10)
There has been a big push to let women into combat units and to serve alongside with men. Why should there be a female only unit? Something seems a bit wrong with this concept.
12. These are the type of females we need
jason white ,   afula, israel   (07.16.10)
in Israel. Not the ones that marry young to avoid the draft, the religious and non religious draft dodgers. I wonder how the "males" that dodge the draft feel about seeing an article like this. They must feel like the eunichs they are.
13. 6 i couldn't agree with you more.
dave   (07.16.10)
can you imagine a female gilad shalit?
14. Seeing without being seen? snipers!
observer   (07.16.10)
15. Turkel cousins
observer   (07.16.10)
There are Christian, Jewish and Muslim Turkels scattered all over the world today. While we may no longer share a common faith, we all probably have a common origin; in the Ottoman Empire. So, no matter how far our families may have wandered, we are still cousins. To borrow a line from a well-known American humorist, author and radio personality - Garrison Keilor, "...our women are strong, our men are good-looking, and our children are above average". Following the Crusades, Jews were systematically expelled from every "Christian" country. Such expulsions reached their peak during the 14th and 15th centuries. It was the European Crusaders who slaughtered the Jews (as well as Muslims, of course) in Jerusalem, and it was Saladin who invited them to return. But most Jews had no intention of living in Jerusalem. It was a religious and spiritual centre, not a "homeland". The communities felt "at home" in villages, towns and cities throughout the Islamic world. Jews migrated from Europe to the Islamic world to escape the Crusades. Cairo's Jews readily offered help to their European co-religionists. According to Goitein, Islamic authorities made no attempt to impede this migration. What a contrast with our contemporary "civilized" attitudes to migration.
16. i do not like the term used females
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (07.16.10)
The use of the term females dehumanise these soldiers .If this was a male unit words like guys men would be used . Why not call these great soldiers gals,,ladies or some other respectful term
17. Re;#11- A coed situation complicates things.
Bartley Kulp ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.16.10)
Besides the fact that the likelihood of dating that would go on and all of the complications that comes with it is very bad for a field unit. Also male soldiers have a tendency to be over protective of female soldiers. In combat that might lead to irrational reactions that could pose an even greater danger for the group as a whole. These are issues that have been noted from experience in militaries around the world.
18. #17 If a coed situation complicates things....
Ilan ,   Ariel   (07.16.10)
When men say that a coed situation complicates then they are considered chauvinists so I am a bit surprised to see that the army is forcing the Golani to accept women and at the same time creating an all-female combat group.
19. #16 wrong, perfect meaning, females, sadly so.
avi   (07.16.10)

21.  babes is a good term or peeping toms as they are snipers
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (07.16.10)
22. A new fashion
Matteo Lima ,   Rome, Italy   (07.16.10)
So did they have their hair dyed desert blond?
23. Pure Propaganda
Yael Ben Moshe ,   Tel Aviv   (07.17.10)
This article is pure propaganda. If the writer knew anything about Sudanese, he or she would know that they are not the people they should be worried about, seeing how the majority are non-Muslims from the Dinka tribe. Also, the unit that guards the Egyptian border is also guarded by several all-male units as well.
