1. no "successful" major attack on US since 9/11
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (07.20.10)
And how much of that is due to sheer dumb luck? Abdul Mutalab's undies failed to go off as his plane approached Detroit, while the Times Square bomber's bombs fizzled. And I suppose Major Hassan's attack doesn't count as "major" because "only" 13 soldiers were killed. The facts remain that the current intelligence system is bloated and inefficient, that DHS is widely seen as dysfunctional, and that there is too much reliance on contractors.
2. US Intelligence Protection?
JR Peacher ,   Berkeley USA   (07.20.10)
The southern US border leaks like the BP oil well in the gulf, and we are patting ourselves on the back about preventing another attack? Our soldiers are murdered in cold blood at Ft Hood and this is not terror? Do the attacks that take place have to reach a certain numerical criteria, perhaps another 3000 Americans, a dozen at a time or something like that before we realize that we really are at war? As long as the Koran is in print, we will be defending ourselves against those who have declared war on democracy. When I see reports of churches and synagogues being built in Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iran and other Islamic countries, then I will believe that change is in the air. Not until then!
