1. egypts barrier
a ash ,   nyc ny.   (07.22.10)
it is useless and was only done to get sympathy from the west . we all know in private that egypt wants hamas armed as much as possible..
2. Poor engineering.
Paul ,   USA   (07.22.10)
How could the Egyptian authorities have failed to realize that smugglers would use cutting torches on the steel ? Using thick sheet copper on top of the steel, would have made cutting torches useless. Incredible oversight !
3. hundreds of tunnels
James Murray ,   Murfreesboro,TN, USA   (07.22.10)
So Egypt pays contactors $$$ to drive those steel plates into the ground. So smugglers carve hundreds of holes in them with torches The moral is: You can't keep a good man down! LOOOOOOOOOL!
4. If it was Israel digging those tunnels
Nora Te Aviv   (07.22.10)
If it was Israel dugging hudreds of tunels to Egypt, would Egypt act so passively? No. What`s happening is due to Egypt`s interest in keeping Israel busy defending itself at the south.
5. :: Old news
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (07.22.10)
It was reported back in May of this year by the BBC that the Gazans had breached these barriers. According to Egypt this barrier, which cost millions of dollars to build and put into place, was meant to be made out of super-duper strength steel and was ‘bomb-proof’. According to a Gazan called ‘Mohammed’: "We pay around a $1,000 for a man with an oxygen-fuelled cutter to come and break through it. It takes up to three weeks to cut through but we get there in the end".
6. you've gotta give a hand to the Palestinians Hamas's
socalmaverick ,   sunny-so cal   (07.22.10)
determination to keep Gaza alive despite the immoral siege and a blind world
7. "boulders in the ground"? never stopped the tunnelers
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (07.22.10)
"The workers told the paper that boulders in the ground had made it impossible to drill deeper than four meters into the ground at some spots". Give me a break. Those geological characteristics didn't seem to bother Gaza's tunnelers. I never believed that barrier would prove effective as designed. The easier, and more cost effective, solution would have been to stop the flow of goods *above* ground. There were, after all, only so many roads and smuggling routes across the Sinai. Were Egypt serious enough, it could have blocked them long ago.
8. Egypt's Policy is To Allow The Tunnels
Neil ,   Washington USA   (07.22.10)
If you look at a satellite photo of the border, it is all scrub bushes and dirt with very few buildings. So, clearly the tunnels (and related traffic) cannot be hidden. Egypt allows the tunnels to exist and someone is taking a cut of the finances (call it a customs tax).
9. Yes, Barrier Is Worthless
emanon ,   USA   (07.22.10)
Steel plates from alleged barrier are being used as reinforcements inside illegal tunnels.
10. SoCalMaverick (#6) is Half Correct
emanon ,   USA   (07.22.10)
Siege is indeed immoral. Arabs should leave Gaza.
11. :: Now for some New News

Next Muslim flotilla is sponsored by B. Hussein's best friend. Rashid Khalidi is an extremist Arab Terrorist, former member of a terrorist group, very close friend and teacher of B. Hussein and his ghastly spouse Michelle. Nowadays he is organizing the financing of a new flotilla to Gaza he names "Audacity of Hope" after B. Hussein's book.
