1. Livni is on the UK wanted list so she wants the law changed
zionist forever   (07.22.10)
As the law stands if Livni enters the UK she will be arrested for war crimes so its understandable she believes this is a step in the right direction. She should be arrested but not because of Lebanon or Cast Lead but her crimes against the Israeli people.
2. It's about time the UK started going for terrorists ...
Lee ,   Manchester UK   (07.22.10)
instead of the people who are DEFENDING themselves from terrorism, this had better go through.
3. The west should crush terrorism without mercy.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (07.22.10)
The only way the terrorists can win against superior forces is if those forces have their hands tied behind their backs. Governments that focus on "Hearts and Minds" campaigns, and care about posing and primping against the background of the Moral High Ground are the terrorists' best friends. But what is the real Moral High Ground? It's not mercy toward those who show you none. For governments it is about doing their duty by protecting their citizens. The west should crush terrorism before it is too late. Consult : http://xrl.us/bhqgmp
4. it hasnt passed yet, fingers crossed it wont

5. I would be sad to see this law go
op   (07.22.10)
It was very useful way of keeping undesirable people out - A shortsighted UK peace process sweetener
6. "private prosecution" and justice don't go together
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (07.22.10)
Prosecution is an inherently *government* function, not a private matter. Individuals are only allowed to bring civil actions, and for good reason. Unfortunately, universal jurisdiction as a principle is still defended by the UK and, as I've argued before, UJ is a legal crock created by the human rights community. The current system opens itself up to political abuse and legal anarchy - as we've seen. OK, so now one will need the approval of the Director of Public Prosecutions before a private action can proceed. What if the Director has it in for some country (Israel, for example)? Individuals may petition the judicial authorities to pursue a case, but otherwise they should have no role to play.
7. Only way to save the free world !
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (07.22.10)
Governments must be stronger in their thoughts and actions towards terrorists. It is the weakness in the world governments that have given power to the terrorists. It is also ignorance among the poor - so that they fall for the propaganda spoon -fed to them and believe what their "Imam" tells them. Only strength of character in governments and strengthening the intelligence to all -education will help.
8. This is a step towards Common Sense.

9. Great video Here showing british support for israel

10. KEN CLARKE ISN'T JACK STRAW
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne,   (07.22.10)
Things have changed. When Britain was still plagued with the New Labour government the obstacle to rectifying the situation was Jack Straw who wanted an indefinite delay. He was cynically trying to please his Muslim constituents with a general election looming. Well,he's out now,and replaced by Ken Clarke,a much more rounded person.More fun too. I have a suggestion. If you could just get Tzipi Livni to smile a bit, cordial relations might break out. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
11. Thanks, Alan, #9, for the link.

12. vexatious litigation
sweeter than honey ,   far away   (07.22.10)
is brought to harass/subdue adversaries regardless of merit. however it is rarely prosecuted in the jurisdictions that allow israelis and others to be so harassed. if the system is abused it is of course noted, those who think they are clever using the system so might be prosecuted in future. however this is a nice gesture from britain even though video conferencing and such like made it little more than an inconvenience, if that. perhaps we'll see more ranking israelis shopping on oxford street?
13. here is another great video show british support for israel
Alan ,   Golan   (07.22.10)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgJQzCZRPWY and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hmT4Ri78aM we never see these kind of videos, israelis just assume everyone hates us.. these videos are an example to prove otherwise.
14. #9 ALAN,DON'T BUILD UP YOUR HOPES
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne,   (07.22.10)
The problem here is that the demonstration was mainly a Jewish affair. There's still a big job to be done to counteract the atmosphere of anti-Israel spite in Britain that the New Labour government promoted and left behind them, with the charge led by Tony Blair,Jack Straw and David Miliband. Also,if I should want to hear the British National Anthem on video, this is more to my taste and a lot more fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJmouowPH5k THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
15. CLARIFICATION FOR #5op
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne,   (07.22.10)
Don't worry,op,the law is NOT being ditched, just amended to give the director of public prosecutions a veto over arrest warrants in these cases. That should avoid the sort of harassment that we've been seen lately by terrorist apologists and camp-followers.The legislation will still be there to arrest terrorists and tyrants who abuse human rights.Hope that cheers you up,but I have an idea that it won't. The good news is that there's a very real prospect of the amendment being made very soon. This isn't primarily to protect any Israelis,It's to protect the POPE.He's being threatened with private arrest warrants when he visits the UK this autumn,by people accusing him of involvement in various Catholic Church sex abuse scandals. The UK government can do without that head ache. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
16. why bother?
Steve from Raleigh   (07.22.10)
They'll just concoct some other reason to persecute Jews.
17. #16 regardless if that is true
