It was not mentioned in this story that a Jewish man was convicted of a similar crime 2 years ago when he lied to her by saying that he could help her find housing if she had sex with him. The court also said clearly that the conviction was not that he lied about not saying that he was Arab, but rather that he told a string of lies.

It is nobody's business in what cicumstances two people have concensual sex, after ten minutes or ten days. There is no law or regulation or even general understanding that a person has to declare his or her religion, race or ethnicity before entering into an act of a sexual nature with someone. This man did not deceive anyone and he has been wrongly treated by the law. It is my considered opinion that at some future date this country will be a binational state and intermarriage will be a common thing. It is on the cards and is inevitable, despite the extreme right etc. I am not from the looney left, I am merely a realist and a pragmatist. Nature shall take its course, it always has done. Dudu should go home to his wife and face her wrath, not that of the warped justice meted out to him.

Calling this man a criminal is very inappropriate. If anyone is sick I would say it is you. He did not lie as I have explained in another post and if he cheated then that is between himself and his family, his morals are not your affair and people are not sentened to imprisonment for immorality, judged by their fellow beings and friends, but not sentenced in court.

In Israel, if you are arrested, you are guilty. ask any law student - more than 95% of arrests are found guilty. for a democracy, that is insane. This guy was wrongfully arrested and wrongly charged. And convicted. it sucks. but it is not because he is Arab. Perhaps the jump to charge him was because he was Arab, but not the conviction. The justice system in Israel is simply embarrassing. and as a Jewish citizen of Israel, i am fearful that one day I will be wrongfully arrested and charged for something i did not do. The judge will say - either 10 years in jail, or sign here and it will be one year - but you are going away. And that is how it works here all the time.

It is becoming more clear, in the Israeli justice system not all are equal in front of the law. It is more like Apartheid where court ruling is based on race/ethnic background not severity of crime

I believe this could set a dangerous precedent where any lie or exaggeration could net a person a prison sentence and fine. On the other hand-though the woman was "stupid"- she did not have all the facts before her rash decision. He trys to get around it but by telling her that his name is Dudu he is in fact broadcasting that he is Jewish (Dudu is a diminutive of Da'vid NOT Da'oud) as well as lying claiming he is single. So she assumed he was Jewish. The woman initially did the wrong thing in court. However, the woman, demonstrably, has irrevocable dammages. As other talkbackers already pointed out in earlier articles, what would happen in a Muslim country to a man pretending to be a Muslim having sex with a Muslim woman? At best there would be a forced conversion and marriage, but most likely there would be death. Mr. Kashour and Muslims in general probably agree with that kind of Islamic punishment, and it is so natural, so self-evident to them that it's never mentioned, and Western friends of Arabs don't notice and think the Muslim world is a paradise of some kind. Of course the sentence is too high, but it needs not turn into ant-Israel propaganda. To Muslims, the people who are not Muslims are not equal but beings of a lesser kind, and to Muslim men, all non-Muslim women are sex objects and slaves. This case would be a good opportunity to show the real double standard in the Muslim world.

If she had been set up by a friend or ex-acquaintance (whose old boyfriend she had dated and was looking to get back at her) and was told by her that this was a Jewish guy, while the "Arab" was completely out of the loop and was told that the girl new he was an Arab and simply did not bring it up. If this had been the case and both parties to the consensual sex were misled by a Jewish girl from Tel Aviv who was just playing a prank - would that girl be in prison now for rape? Would that girl now be paying nearly $3K in damages? I think that is a question very well worth answering, and it should go to the root of whether anyone can see justice in this course of unfortunate events (and our shame that the girl who was so quick to open her legs for a guy she did not know to receive payment for it afterwards, while the judicial system is not only privy to this, but the catalyst!).
