1. Lebanese Provocation - I don't think so
Anonymous ,   TX, USA   (08.03.10)
The weakest army provoking the strongest army in the region...do you really think we are that naiive??? What really happened is that Israeli soldiers made an incursion inside the Lebanese territory...Israeli soldiers regularly do so, there are several reports where IDF soldiers crossing the blue line and kidnapping Lebanese civilians and UNIFIL comdemning those intrusions. What is different in this instance, is that IDF soldiers came accross some Lebanese soldiers that were brave enough to stand their ground, and face that intrusion, to which Israeli soldier responded by opening Tank fire, and Lebanese soldiers responded back. Israel has been Itching to mess with Lebanon, it is trying to create civil strife between Shiaa & Sunni Muslims, and seeing that this attempt has been recently thwarted by Syrian-Saudi entente, it is now trying to provoke a full blown invasion of Lebanon. such Israeli provocations, are only the begining of a string of such acts to justify Israel's upcoming war against Lebanon.

John ,   London UK   (08.03.10)
you're the naive one mister anonymus. let me get this into your thick head, ISRAELI SOLDIERS WERE WITHIN ISRAELI TERRITORY. it was a planned ambush in which an officer have been sniped to death. the whole thing is just an early phase of heating up the region to cover up internal problems in Lebanon such as the assisination of Hariri, what could be better then another war to cover up Hizbollah's and Syria's Assassination. It's time you pull the head out of the place where the sun doesnt shine and face solid facts rather then watching freaking Al Jazeera.

5. Helloooo? Slaughter of officers IS provocation.
David ,   Hartford USA   (08.03.10)
No pathetic warnings, Mr. Barak. Send over some big artillery rounds and show that the life of an Israeli officer isn't cheap. Aim for Nasrallah's cave.
6. To Anonymous #1
Kenny ,   USA   (08.03.10)
You can't believe that forces in Lebanon would provoke Israel??? What planet were you on in 2006 when Hizbullah did the same thing, only worse, provoking the war that summer? This new bloody Lebanese provocation can be explained by one simple thing: Hizbullah wants increased hostilities to divert attention from its upcoming indictments in the Harari murder.

What Israeli crossings of the Lebanese border to kidnap Lebanese? Delusional ravings.

sweeter than honey ,   far away   (08.03.10)
about routine brush clearance and 2) units of Lebanese army and a bbc journalist are there for an ambush (not unifil) then 3) unifil is compromised, (to put it politely). it's an: idf gambit, which being accepted, has confirmed suspicions.

Anonymous ,   TX, USA   (08.03.10)
Idf kidnapping of Lebanese Shepard accross the blue line, interrogating him for several hours and then releasing him into unifil custody happened 3-4 months ago, and ynet reported it as such, and I even commented on that article

16. All recent provocations on the South and the North
Anna ,   Montreal, Canada   (08.03.10)
of Israel are the attempts to let Abbas get away from the major talks about the creation of Palestine. Lebanese Hariri already reconciled with Assad and Hezbollah behind the doors. The 2 latest promised Rafiq Al-Hariri to spare him from his father's fate and help him keep his high position in exchange for letting his father's killers to get less punishment. Wait for a new, more destructive provocations
17. Barak barks but he is the first culprit,
aviG   (08.03.10)
he does more harm to the IDF than all Hezbollah because he fails to prevent such failures that should not happen !! Same story since he appeared in Tsahal command level, who will fire him once and for all ??? If we look at Peres' fate, the answer is noone, never !

19. it was a tragic misunderstanding not a provocation
zionist forever   (08.03.10)
I think the Lebanese version of this story is more believable. The arm of the cherry picker with the soldier crossed into what Lebanon claims is there side of the border so the tree could be cut. Lebanese soldiers then fired warning shots the IDF mistook it for an act of aggression and so they retaliated and things got out of hand. I cannot see Lebanese soldiers being stupid enough to shoot at Israelis they don't want a war which they know their people will lose. Israel had cooperated with UNIFIL the plans to cut this tree and it sounds to me like UNIFIL didn't pass on the message to the Lebanese. Neither Israel or Lebanon were at fault. The threat now is not so much the Lebanese government or army its Assad & Hizbolllah inflaming the situation in an attempt to provoke Israel into a war. Assad would love to see Israel forced into a war as long as the battleground is Beirut rather than Damascus. Also as the Lebanese government has officially brought Hizbollah into the government and said they can keep their weapons so the Israeli government has said all of Lebanon is not fair game not just the south where Hizbollah operate.

21. #11-planned!!!
Anonymous ,   TX, USA   (08.03.10)
The presence of reporters & unifil goes to show that it was not an ambush. Lebanese army patrol witnessed the IDF intrusion, called unifil to deal with the intrusion, unifil dispatched a unit to the place of intrusion, and proceeded with a go between to defuse the situation. Reporters were tipped about the stand off by either the Lebanese army or by unifil and arrived later at the Scene to provide cover. Idf angered by the spotlight that this encounter has generated lost its nerve & started shooting, among the first casualties was the reporter. In brief there was no ambush, but there was an incursion that Lebanese tv reporters captured in video before the clashes erupted
22. To rafi - u can watch how it happened on tv
Anonymous ,   Tx, USA   (08.03.10)
Of course not Israeli TV And u can see the pictures on Lebanese news channels. Which show how the incident started with the incursion, the unifil intervention, and after that the idf opening fire. That's how I know. I don't restrict myself on watching one party's media
23. After reading about this today

After reading about this today I think the IDF have learnt their lesson – don’t go over the border and leave the Lebanese alone.
24. It is so obvious now that LAF and Hez are one and the same

This was clearly instigated by Hez, that is why there were reporters there.

why don't you just sit back and watch some sitcoms! stop cutting bushes :) do your own first! you stiiinnnkkkkk. cutting bushes!!!! you make me laugh. don't you have better things to do? like training in Romania or something? how about some commando real life experience? any boats coming in? walls to build? tunnels? protests? lol... cutting bushes.... the funniest thing i heard today. next time, it'll be flying kites over the boarder.... IDF Chief would say: well, technically, the string was on our territory, but the kite was on both sides of the border... it's a pickle i tell yah...
26. So what if...
LondonMike ,   London UK   (08.03.10)
the tree was on Lebanese territory - they claim to be at war with Israel, and are amassing weapons to annihilate the Jews (by their own admission). In such a scenario Israel is entitled to have a clear sight line of the self declared enemy. on Israeli soil or not - it's called War and Lebanon declared it.

This is an opportunity to finish Hezbollah once and for all. This time Israel should employ what it did in Gaza and leave all of Lebanon in ruins.
