Fast forward......My son went to Israel and 'passed' the Israeli driving course exam on his first time out. Sort of tells you just how poor your drivers are.

Probably it was one of the hundreds of minibuses that are used as school buses during the school year, and used for trips during 'bein hazmanim' (the vacation). The drivers of those vans (usually not chareidim themselves) tend to be the craziest most sick people on the roads. Once, I beat in the window of one of those minibuses when the driver almost killed me at a pedestrian crossing (I happened to have a strong object in my hand, and intuitively tried to protect myself). The driver almost killed me in return. #2, JL, you're completely right. If anything, this is one of the main reasons why I would want to leave Israel. I'm still here, for the time being, but it's becoming difficult.

of the average Israeli driver are a symptom of our sick society. I have a driving license for exactly 53 years and believe me I have driven millions of miles in many many countries. Nowhere on earth is there such a creature as the Israeli driver. Arrogant and hateful, aggressive law flouting with zero respect for pedestrians or fellow motorists. There is absolutely no excuse for any motorist to be on a railway crossing, none whatsoever. I have never had an accident in my life simply because I respect the law and respect others. I have given up my license a few months ago and will never drive in Israel again. I have a European license which will serve me when I am abroad and have the chance to drive among normal people.

There is absolutely no excuse for any driver in the world to try and "beat" the on coming train. The DRIVER ALWAYS LOSES TOGETHER WITH HIS PASSENGERS. As far as I am concerned it is 7 counts of murder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does someone remember the 24 school kid from Petah Tikva whose driver murdered them about 30 years ago, using the on coming train as murder weapon? Let's put cameras all over any train crossing and jail for a long time any driver who crosses the barriers in order to beat the trains. Let it be known that the "prize" the driver gets as aresultsof him beating the train is a long jail term.

A bus company cannot chose the shape or the color of the tickets it handles to the passengers without transport ministry approval, but the basic regulatings are 1.not inforced & 2.a big mess &3.made for UFO driving, not for normal cars. About this tragedy, there will be 20 inquiries for 20 years with 200 reports edited but there still will be the same flaws for ever in the road management. Worse than USSR, worse than China. I just wonder how there are no more victims year round, that's a miracle indeed.

the driver of the van should be put behind bars forever. it is so typical israeli - they take red lights/stop signs, yield signs, train barriers as a suggestion but it does not mean that they have to stop. I feel for the family of the dead. the driver of the van should feel this way until he dies.

israeli drivers think they are the best and that nothing can happen to them.. Until we give severe punishement and take cars off the road - accidents like this will happen. I have no doubt that the driver of the van was at fault. And I hope he sits behind bars for YEARS. Let him rot there.

The only way to prevent such an accident it to build railroad crossing barriers that will stop a moving vehicle. Israeli drivers can't be trusted to stop when confronted with lowered gates, ringing bells and flashing lights.

Where i lived there were also many of such accidents , and this without ANY Israeli driver involved . The solution they found is to build tunnels under the rail tracks . Expensive , yes . But lives are worth more .

The people killed in the crash were observant Jews. How do you explain that one? By the way, I think it is somewhat misleading to say the train crashed into the car. Makes it look like the engineer's fault. How about the car drove into the path of the train for a little more accuracy?

Today on the way from Elyakim to Haifa and back I saw at least three drivers who passed on the red light. This speaks for itself. There should be cameras on every trafic lights as it is in England. Jumping the red light cost driver points on his driving licence and few offences like that costs them driving licence for 6 months. This would teach the drivers in Israel because loosing licence in country where public transport is so bad is really not fun.
