There have been sanctions and diplomacy with Iran since early in Bushes second term and it hasn't done any good at all. Although the US military planners may well have drawn up a military operation Obama will not and never will allow the use of military action. He has gone out of his way to sell himself as the peaceful president and the new America as a kind country that avoids the use of violence ( especially against muslims ). A military solution will spoil all of that. Now he wants to go back to his teleprompter where he feels most comfortable and he is also more than happy to humiliate and harm Israel so if Iran makes demands which will hurt Israel Obama will say I can live with that. It will be Obama at his best and in exchange for all these concessions Israel is going to make for Obama to get a deal it will be a very weak deal which means very little in the real world. I do hope though that if Obama does decide to start Israel bashing and further making America like a tiger without any claws that he will at least hold that live TV debate with Ahmadinejad I think that will be well worth watching. Obama sitting comfortably trying to sell himself as the messiah with Ahmadinejad shouting and screaming how he is going to burn Tel Aviv.

Many here are Pro-Israel and want to see it the major power in ME, while good for Israel, that is not best for US goals. Obama wants to see a balance of power in ME that could lead to peace, where as many Pro-Israel see only way to peace is to remove all Arabs from Jewish lands west of Jordan river.
