31. "an absolute failure", she writes,
sweeter than honey ,   far away   (08.18.10)
i already feel patronised, being called an absolute failure. and i am sure the guy who built the saturn rockets for nasa, what was his name, er, werner von braun?, will agree with, "without (this) freedom no research can take place". this is of course an extreme example to show the shrill emptyness of this harridan. apart from a few gems, the israeli education system, the general public service that is, could do better. and those of us in the diaspora, who have been cajoled into donating to those blue and white cans, etc., etc.. yes i can well understand why this is happening. indeed if they come and work in my country, not only will they earn, is it three times as much as in israel? but three times as much as most workers here too, so there's many more "absolute failures" she can patronise, (for their lack of common sense no doubt). it is you, madam, who has failed, actually.
32. have to love the hutzpah
Mr Bubbles ,   Haifa,Israel   (08.18.10)
Who's being McCarthyist? We demand balance and we demand fairness. These professors think that somehow they are special. They think they can call for boycotts against their University and the country that pays their salary and think that if we demand accountability that we are against free speech. Last time I checked I cannot disparage the company I work at and assume that I will keep my job. Only in lala land does that work. Academics need to learn that speech has consequences. I cannot yell fire and I cannot slander my employer. Nobody is stopping you from speaking. You can stand on a soapbox in the middle of tel aviv for all I care but I will not support you leeches any longer. You and the haredim deserve each other.
33. Nitza forgot to mention that she is Neve Gordon's Sidekick a
Elazar ,   Haifa   (08.18.10)
Nitza forgot to mention that she is Neve Gordon's Sidekick, Collaborator, and Co-Author And she suddenly pretends to favor freedom of speech? What about he rpal Gordon's attempt to suppress freedom of speech using fascist SLAPP suits?
34. Academic Boycott
Ivan ,   Haifa   (08.18.10)
We should start asking to universities outside to boycott us until we have freedom.
35. to all foreigns
ivan ,   haifa   (08.18.10)
please,,boycott us, we cant do anything from inside without turning rachel corrie.
36. role model for fascists
Michael ,   Haifa   (08.18.10)
It is just a question of time until the fascist "watchdogs" will rediscover the historical precedent of burning books and articles, written by those whom they hate, on huge public bonfires
37. Let's understand
Arie ,   BaGolan   (08.18.10)
When Antisemitic left wing Islamist professors teaching at either BGU or TAU routinely attack Jews, urge an international boycott of Israel, demand that soldiers be expelled from the Universities, and claim only the left wing is allowed freedom of speech, they are called "academia" and any attempt to silence them is "fascism"; if those opposed to their positions urge their own boycotts and demand full freedom of speech for themselves, they are called "McCarthyites." Just wanted to clarify.
38. The purpose of higher learning is to teach
Ayatollah Ghilmeini ,   USA   (08.18.10)
Far leftist professors are propagandists seeking the destruction of Israeli society. It is one thing to educate, to challenge consensus or to take controversial positions and to courageously defend them, it is quite another to go over dedicate your academic career to actively destroying the society that pays your salary. It is one thing to be Benny Morris and challenge convention. It is quite another to move beyond advocacy and use your position to deliberately hurt the state, you need to go. You stop being an academic and start becoming a totalitarian radical. Active conspiracy with those committed to the genocide of the Jewish people is beyond the pale of academic freedom.
39. Would be a hell of a lot more credible
Danny   (08.18.10)
if the same people insisting on "academic freedom" were not the ones running around calling for Israel to boycotted.
40. #20, would love you to spend one day
Danny   (08.18.10)
in a real police state. It is a truely Orwellian world where the Left scream suppression of freedom whenever someone dares to criticise them.
41. #27 but you already have this
Danny   (08.18.10)
Try debating some facts in Middle East Studies or Sociology or philosophy or polSci depts in Israel. Surely when these departments included brazen frauds like Tanya Rheinhart, Uri Ram, Neve Gordon and Ilan Pappe you can hardly say they were not ideologically driven before.
42. Freedom of speech, responsibility to teach
Ilan ,   Ariel   (08.19.10)
An instructor has the right to say things that are unpopular, but on the same note it is forbidden to silence debate by students who desire to argue against what they say. Sort of a balance that has been allegedly lost. Still academics have no more right to freedom of speech than anyone else in society . There shouldn't be one standard for instructors and another for political activists.
