61. 52 , Talula . Ignorant ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.24.10)
Don't you know that Russian has a vast culture ? That many Russians who immigrated to Israel brought their knowledge with them . That without them our Hi Tec would be less important ? Some weeks ago i spoke to a Russian immigrant while in the bus to Tel Aviv , at an age of 86 he was still asked to work in his speciality , water engineering , this because of his knowledge and vast experience . One example . Russian has no relevance ? poor hatefull Talula who does'nt know about what she talks . I regret that i can't speak and read it .
62. Anastasiya @ 35, in 30- 40 years you will hardly find
leo ,   usa   (08.24.10)
a person in Israel speaking Russian. Russian is one-generation, maximum two-generation language and then that is it. I have many relatives and friends who immigrated to Israel form SU in early 70s. Their children do not speak Russian and neither will yours and most definitely not your grandchildren. There is nothing wrong with that. That is how Nature operates.
63. Sultan @ 54, you do not speak my language and I do not
leo ,   usa   (08.24.10)
speak yours. Yet, somehow we can communicate. Is Arabic really that necessary? Did you notice you came to Israeli site and chose the language Israelis can understand. I see the need for Israel to jump through hoops just to please its neighbors who hate Israel anyway.
64. #55 - No, it's not. Asian languages are harder
William ,   Israel   (08.24.10)
Asian languages, like Chinese, are much more difficult because of the intonation of each sound that brings different meanings, and the plethora of vocabulary. Russian and German are equally difficult but from a grammatic standpoint. Because English was a more simpler language than Russian, many Soviet scientists thought Americans were stupid...until they worked with them. Put your ego aside, man. Arabic is not that hard to learn, even coming from a purely Latin-based language background.
65. I hate this policy!
yasmina ,   seoul, south korea   (08.25.10)
Hebrew is the only official language of the State of Israel! But Arabic is the official language of HAMAS traitors!
66. I had to learn Arabic when I was in school
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.25.10)
When did it stop? I mean how else can you question terrorists if you can't speak Arabic?
67. #61 They can speak Hebrew - don't need to speak Russian
Talula ,   Israel   (08.25.10)
and we DEFINITELY do NOT need to teach it in our schools - It's as simple as that Charles. Israel is fast losing its identity because of the amount of Russians that came pouring into this country - and NOT for Zionistic reasons either, it was to pick up their meaty checks at Ben Gurion and move onto Easy Street for a while. Israel isn’t what it used to be, and you know it. Just because you’re Russian, doesn’t mean you can’t see the rising and overbearing amount of Russian writing all over the place - hell, they even have their own TV channel. That’s not called assimilating into society – what it is – is wanting to change a country to suit you and your needs. Not how it works Charles. Apart from that 65% of them aren’t even Jewish – what exactly are they doing here? They can paint swastikas in Red Square, they didn’t have to come and live here to do that. I’ve been in high tech in Israel for almost 20 years – back in the beginning of the high tech era there were barely any Russians, and the ones that were here were cleaners (no offense meant). High tech was started by incredibly bright and intelligent Israelis who led the way for new technology and are still doing so today. And lastly….Sadly, the Russians here have little respect from anyone, compared to English speakers. Why do you think that is? Why are Russian children laughed at and made fun of in schools, but children from English speaking families are not? Think about it – and try your best to be impartial.
68. Talula 67 , I Russian ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.25.10)
read my last sentence : i regret thast i can't speak or vread it . Great for a Russian , Not ? Dide i say that we need toi reach Russian in our schools ? No respect for them ? people are respected for what they are , not because of their origin . But there are hatefull people who don't respect anybody , yes . English speaking respected ? why ? because they also don't speak Hebrew ? Let me tell you that i don't speak Hebrew with my children and some of my grandchildren . They know more than one tongue , even the latest one aged four . There was Hi Tec before the mass Russian immigration , but they also contributed to a great part to this developpement . Checks at Ben Gurion ? can you give your source of info ? when i made Alyah , from a west European country , i did'nt receive any agora .
