3. Good for him!
Nour ,   One-State الدولة   (08.25.10)
I would love to meet you and exchange notes on coming out in Arab society and how much of an uphill challenge that is. If our relatives can't accept us as gay then we don't want them! Angel, you look fabulous in drag. Go girl!
4. #3 - Good for him is right! Kol Hakavod....
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (08.25.10)
He has alot of courage. And, of course, the advantage of finding peace and relaxation among the Jews in Tel Aviv. Of course Nour and he can both kiss thier own asses goodbye in an Arab Palestinian state. They'd be dead faster than you could sing Hatikva. Then all of Nour's One State bullshit would be for nothing. Long live the Jewish State - the only country in the middle east with a modicum of rights for gay folks. I hope this young man finds the peace he deserves - free from the bigotry and violence of his own disgusting family.
5. #3 - to continue your thought

8. Asur to cross-dress
Josh   (08.25.10)
9. #3 - well, that explain Nour's hostility against Israel
William ,   Israel   (08.25.10)
It's really a mis-directed frustration and anger over its own family's unacceptance of the homosexual lifestyle. Nothing to do with Israel but you can't choose your family. Funny, Nour is upset at Israel and applauds the PA, but Israel is a haven for gays who are protected and the Arabs slaughter them like sheep. I guess its true what they say - there will be peace when Arab gays fight back for their rights in Arab society is stronger than their racist ahtred of Jews.
10. Really, Andy?
Gazan ,   Canada   (08.25.10)
That's why there was that shooting last year at that nightclub? We all need to take a good look at our societies and deal with this issue - Israeli Jewish society included. I would even wager that Beirut probably is even more accepting of LGBT folks than Tel Aviv.
11. Yes, Really anonymous Gazan in Canada --
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (08.25.10)
Those tragedies happen all over, including San Francisco. And here, like any normal country, the entire nation condemned it, including the religious Jews and the Prime Minister, who visited the center. And, by the way: homosexuality is illegal in Lebanon. Here, it's not. Gays have been serving openly in the military since the 1980's. Yes, that is what a progressive country looks like: Israel.
12. He's more sane than his S & M family.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (08.25.10)
13. In the meantime, we can better understand
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (08.25.10)
the Israeli and Westbank Arab hostility to us (Israel) as modernization and globalization are altering their traditional societies very quickly and it is beyond their control. As a result, Israeli society, the proximate cause of these changes, some of them shameful, is held up as the culprit. Given these parameters, we can better comprehend the Chassidim and their strong distaste for and hostility towards more conventional and secular society. Understanding does not equal agreement with but it does place the dynamics in context.
14. Welcome to the family
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (08.25.10)
Coming out was something I put off for years because of my fears what others would think, I wish this brave soul all the happiness in the world. Kol Hakavod!
15. To: No. 3
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.25.10)
Wow, that was pretty brave, I must say. Good to know that you aren't concerned about honor killings, because you just painted a very large target on your back. Unless, of course, your name isn't really "Nour" and you aren't really Arab and you don't really live in the Middle East.
16. #9 William & wild assumptions
Nour ,   One-State الدولة   (08.25.10)
" 9. #3 - well, that explain Nour's hostility against Israel " My hostility towards "ISRAEL" has nothing to do with how it treats its homosexual minority - but the way it treats its Arab population - including those it chased away in 1948 and whose right of return it denied on basis of ethnicity. "It's really a mis-directed frustration and anger over its own family's unacceptance of the homosexual lifestyle." You do not dim my spirit. Besides, you imply that my own parents do not accept me but that is a wild, wild assumption! My parents accept and love me - and I consider myself lucky to be graced by their love. Of course, this is not to say it was easy to come out to them. Arab society is slowly coming to terms with "the gay lifestyle" - and who are you to judge? Even America couldn't have imagined the events at stonewall some 50 years ago but it did happen. Each society evolves at its own pace and we must all contribute. "Funny, Nour is upset at Israel and applauds the PA, but Israel is a haven for gays who are protected and the Arabs slaughter them like sheep." Your exaggerations are foolish. While it's true that a few gays were accused of collaboration some years back, and subject to gruesome violence, the very same violence manifests itself in Israel (drive-by shootings, mortal threats, etc.). While I'm no fan of the PA - law and order is improving and senseless violence is no longer the norm as culprits are arrested and tried.
17. welcome
A ,   Belgium   (08.25.10)
Angel, you are always welcome at my house if you need a place to stay. I'm a Jew (athiest, really), I'm not gay, but I respect you for wanting to be yourself in spite of the pressures being put on you by your family and culture. Although besides Antwerp, Tel Aviv is probably the coolest place for you to be. Good luck, man!
18. Nour
Jane   (08.26.10)
This is just one more reason to reject one state solution. We don't want any part of the mentality of his family.
19. # 3 good
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (08.26.10)
Nour ! one state same gender, try it in Mecca.
20. #16 Your Frustration
Cynthia ,   USA   (08.26.10)
Has little to do with the right of return. Your family escaped to Lebanon when Syrian militias took over their villages in '48. They weren't chased out by the Israelis and you know that. Stop lying. The right of return isn't denied because of ethnicity. Arabs who remained in Israel now represent 20% of the population of Israel. As the granddaughter of Arabs who left Israel on their own in '48, you have no legitimate claim to return. If Israel was so important to them, they should have stayed and fought for the land alongside the Jews. You're frustrated because the Israelis are in the ME to stay and your One-State campaign is doomed. The Two-State concept is also doomed because your own leadership takes their walking orders from the Arab/Muslim world instead of doing what's right for the Palestinian people. And no matter how much you push for a One-State solution, it is a society that shuns you.
21. #11
Gazan ,   Canada   (08.26.10)
And yet it was in Israel that they were shot.
22. To: No. 16
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.26.10)
What's your shelf life, Nour, if you stand up in the mosque at Friday prayers and announce loudly that you are a lesbian and proud of it? About ten seconds -- and only that long because your Palestinian brethren will be fumbling for their knives. But you know that already, don't you? How much respect are you accorded in the Palestinian community? None whatever. They're too busy speculating as to why you are unmarried. By the way -- hope you get to meet "Matty Groves" someday. The two of you have more in common than you realize.
23. come to toronto hun....we will protect you here
gays4israel ,   toronto   (08.26.10)
homophobia exists everywhere and thats why we must continue with gay pride ALL OVER THE WORLD !! VIVA ISRAEL
24. Sorry William #9--Your half-baked pop
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (08.26.10)
psychology with regards to Nour is nothing if not cheap. I know that characterization of people based on little or no evidence is de rigeur in current times when amateur psychologists lead television shows but it does us no good on Ynet to publicize our superficiality. On the other hand, Nour must be commended for making a strong and what appears to be an honest statement about himself; he was not defensive and made it clear as to the real source of his hostility. For whatever reasons the Naqbah occurred, and there are a number of reasons put forward, it's still true that 700,000 to 750,00 Palestinians went into exile in 1948 and have never returned. This is an astounding number. We, Jews, are also living with the consequences. This catastrophe (for the Palestinian people) cannot be dismissed although it probably could not have been avoided. And when I read an honest statement such as Nour's, I feel compelled to defend it even when it's against a Jewish brother.
25. Go for it Nour
Arie ,   BaGolan   (08.26.10)
Keep pushing for a State where being gay is an executable offense. Your Pali overlords in Gaza have already executed numerous homosexuals. In Israel, not only is being gay accepted, but gays serve openly in the military and roam unmolested in cities like TA - unless of course your Arab families come hunting you down. You have just admitted that you are truly suffering from a mental disorder (and no - being gay is not a disorder, your psychosis is)
26. Gay bashing lastyear
Christopher ,   Boston, MASS   (08.26.10)
The murder last year of a gay teen fits in to this model and may be the link the Israeli police needed to reopen that cold case and find the true killers - probably from some backward Muslim neighborhood where killing gays and "dishonorable" women is an accepted daily norm
27. #16 - had nothing to do with ethnicity
William ,   Israel   (08.26.10)
It had everything to do with who was firing weapons and slaughtering civilian Jews...it just happened that 100% of them were Muslims. If you had green hair, 7 eyes, and tentacles, and committed terrorist attacks, the result would be the same. Though I do want to point out the words of your Arab leaders, including the Grand Mufti, at the time who did specifically target Jews and called for attacks on them. Now that fits the definition of "racism" a bit more accurately than your's. It looks like you haven't visited your PA recently as with each Pride parade in Israel an influx of homosexual "Palestinians" arrive to take part citing absolute violence if anyone at "home" found out. Atleast your leaders are beyond the "no gays here" lie which Iran currently extols. There might be hope for you yet...in Ramallah.
28. #10 - when is the Pride parade in Beirut?
William ,   Israel   (08.26.10)
When a gay parade happens in Lebanon, then I'll concede that you are correct. However, even with the very different beliefs and tensions among groups in Israel, Tel Aviv is still considered a hot gay destination in the world - and this comes from gays themselves. The shooting was unfortunate and completely criminal. The majority in Israel agreed and demanded investigations to find the criminals. Would that have happened in Beirut or would Nasrallah claim no gays exist there? By the way, when is Gaza City getting their Pride Parade?
29. #13 - agree 100%! Watch good documentary on Bedouins
William ,   Israel   (08.26.10)
Dr. Ruth Westheimer led a documentary about Bedouins living in Israel and the effect that a modern State is having on their traditions. One one side you have the older, very Arab traditional thinkers - decrying schooling for women beyond grade 6, whipping their women for even seeing kissing on TV, and sitting around smoking while women work hard, and insisting on the right to honor kill any female family member. On the other side, you see modern thinkers - women working as doctors and teachers and entrepreneurs, women attending universities with the support of modern male thinkers. You can see the very reason why Arabs hate Israel in the region. Bringing modern thinking, equality for women and gays, and Jews on the same level as Christians and Muslims? You hear the rage of Imams all over the Middle East who scream that Western ways are destroying "Arab values".
30. "Gazan" in Canada
Arie ,   BaGolan   (08.26.10)
Given evidence, there is a very strong probability that the shooting in TA of the gay teen was committed by an Arab from the Arab Triangle of the Galilee. And be real, there is no Gaza, it is an eastern Iranian province.
