1. Ovadia not part of govt & nothing compared to pali incitemen
Joe ,   Toronto   (08.29.10)
Ovadia not part of govt & his comments pale in comparison to the vicious incitement on a daily basis from PA controlled media, spiritual leaders, and education system. wish israel knew how to draw the appropriate paralels in their PR campaigns...
2. which efforts? they are constipated
the sit is ,   ISRAEL   (08.29.10)
Though i couldnt belive he openly cursed the already cursed- I dont think this statement comes to help any ways- but from the Palestines to think that we believe that they are making a singl effort- that is Long Distance
3. Regardless of the words of the Rabbi
Johnny ,   Stockholm Sweden   (08.29.10)
You - the different palestinian organisations that is has, has been calling for the death of the Jews since the inception of the state of Israel. All your different "political" organizations have a charter that explicitly calls for the death and destruction of Jews and the state of Israel. Now tell me, why are you having a problem with this when it comes back at you?
4. Erekat: Blah, blah, blah.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (08.29.10)
You incite violence & calls to genocide every day of the week, twice on Friday in the sermons in the mosques. Since this is a democracy, unlike your rotten corrupt authoritarian dictatorship, the rabbi has what is called ''Freedom of Speech'' - ever hear of it? The rabbi called on G-d to punish you, he did not ask, as your Imams do, for anyone to committ violence. You (plural) not only incite violence, you train, finance, & plot acts of violence. Anyway, this is just more Arab BS, the only reason he's complaining is because we always bring up their very real incitement & the resulting violence. The hypocrisy is just too blatant, of course, Erekat has so much experience lying he probably doesn't even know what truth is any more.
5. Kol HaKavod Rabbi Yossef
Frank ,   Canada   (08.29.10)
Thanks for speaking the truth about these ugly people.
6. What about Hamas and their remarks
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (08.29.10)
Hamas just recently said they would not honor any agreements. To quote Hamas and their most recent statement: "the Izz-a-Din al-Qassam Brigades will step on the heads of those who dare cede the right of return, Jerusalem, and Palestine". Hamas makes death threats against their own leaders, and nothing is said, not a word. But let some obscure Rabbi, make a stupid remark, and we have protests galore. The typical double standard.
7. Ovadia...
Rebecca ,   Thornhill,Canada   (08.29.10)
Words that come out of Ovadia's mouth are disgusting for a "learned" man. He is an embarrassment to Judaism & Israel.
8. Rabbi Ovadia is just stating what the entire world
Shalom   (08.29.10)
think in their hearts but don't have the courage to say out loud about Abu Mazen (Abbas) and his evil men and the newly founded Arab group calling themselves Palestinians. There are many Arabs around the world who totally agree with Rabbi Ovadia for the sake of peace in the Middle East.
9. Dear Saeb,
Michael ,   Haifa   (08.29.10)
You know, as well as most of us, that he is a senile-demented old idiot. So what's all the fuss about ?
10. Wow.! your hateful posts!! Do such people still exist?!
Dr. Honey ,   Egypt   (08.29.10)
11. Free Speech
Ed ,   USA   (08.29.10)
" Is this the way the Israeli government is preparing its public for a peace agreement?" Erekat has no concept of free speech. He thinks what religious leaders say is dictated by the government. Rather revealing of the relation between the PA and Muslim clerics on the West Bank. In any case, the quote from Ovadia here is clearly directed against the PA government--not the Palestinian people. The best thing that could happen to the Palestinian people would be to lose the PA government-- along with the Hamas government in Gaza. But Palestinians are not permitted to speak against their own government. No free speech.
12. did the big bad rabbi hurt your feelings
zionist forever   (08.29.10)
The man is entitled to say what he wants reality his speeches are hurting nobody and when he calls the palestinians the enemies he is speaking the truth. Ovadia Yossef might be an expert at Torah but he has never been to clued up on diplomacy. Let him say whatever he wants its hurting nobody. The fact he can give these speeches Israel should be commended for, where else in the Middle East do you have freedom of speech the way you do in Israel? If Abbas & Erekat are going to cry because a rabbi said a few nasty things about them then this new state they want is going to spend more time complaining about people saying horrible things about them than they are going to be drafting legislation.
13. erekat screams 'genocide' if he finds a hair in his hummus
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (08.29.10)
erekat is the PA's hysterical hyperbolist. whenever he is outraged about something, it's a general rule to find out what was said that upset him, and you'll see that he's going overboard to the extreme about nothing.
14. Erekat the whiner
M Carr ,   Baltimore   (08.29.10)
Why are the Pals so hypersensitive over this sermon? Over the years I recall Imams delivering sermons of similar themes and I’m sure they continue to do so. This is another glaring example of why the Muslims continue to lose credibility with the civilized world. In light of the most modest of slights, the Muslim world often erupts with threats of murder and mayhem. And when the opportunity presents itself some fanatic will try to carry them out, often with bloody effect. Erekat appears hypocritical in his complaints against Rabbi Yosef. The Rabbi’s sermon was biblically based and in the proper context. The Pals have declared themselves mortal enemies of the Jews and they should not expect to coddled. They have demonstrated by word and deed that they have no interest in peace with Israel.
15. religious extremism
David C ,   NY USA   (08.29.10)
The Ultra Orthodox and Haredi have become delusional, mentally ill, violent, and both a drain upon and threat to society. They are living with ideas centuries past, attempt to impose their beliefs on everyone else, and have become very similar to the Iranian extremist clergy. It is time for Israel to confront them .
16. Put your money where your mouth is Erekat
Jay ,   Canada   (08.29.10)
Please - why don't you and Abbas go and name another square after a terrorist - lets see what you have to bring to the negotiating table other than preconditions and excuses so we have something real to talk about.
17. perfectly said Johnny
Duchess   (08.29.10)
18. No fool like an old fool
john US   (08.29.10)
Mr Erekat; angry words, angry remarks, for what;? from an old senile and fool at that. I personally consider the demand for an immediate condemnation, not only frivolous, silly but idiotic. It's worthless. meaningless, no one cares and no one is listening to it. These are empty words, usually uttered by empty people at least 10 times a day throughout the world. Mr Erekat, you have an important job to do in a couple days; just do it ! And if you think that ovadia is an old fool. you haven't met his son .....!
19. Baba Ovadia
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (08.29.10)
Baba Ovadia is a bigger threat to Israel than the palestinians,Baba Ovadia is planning to bring to Israel millions of christians disguised as Jews from Ethiopia,so,Shas will have a big voting block,Natanyahu will have to go along, because Natanyahu is afraid of the Baba, the Baba is an important factor in the coalition.
20. #10: Oh Honey Honey..what hateful post
Israeli 2   (08.29.10)
sweet honey? And you are? Oh yes Dr. Honey. How are you? and how is the family? The truth hurts sometimes like a patient swallowing the bitter pill Take care, DOC.
21. He should be charged wth incitement
Arie ,   BaGolan   (08.29.10)
right after all the left-wingers being led by Sternhell and Haaretz, along with the Palestinian Authority which still officially calls for the death of all Jews, are dealt with as well. Or is this one more case of "it's ok to demand the death of Jews but not ok for a Jew to respond?"
22. to arakat
Jennie ,   US/Isael   (08.29.10)
Mr. Saeb; in your every prayer, beginning at sunrise and ending at sunset , you and your people (devout Muslims), are openly cursing Jews and infidels and calling muslims to rise and murder Jewish people first and then all other infidels....This is a fact , you can't deny. Since islam came to be, about 900 years ago, they are known best by attempting to take over over the Free World by violence and terror...Should I list proofs, I would need to attach a whole chapter....There is not a country left in the world, that was not effected by Islamic Jihad terrorism... Take your veil off, Mr arakat and show us your real face.....
23.  happy to "learn" that Ovadia is part of the israeli gvt...
(08.29.10)
I never knew that. But I agree at least partially that we shouldn't behave like our enemies. And I am happy that our enemy Mr Erekat pinpoints the fact that he is surprised one of us said the same as they do 24/7. Erekat is true: bad words were spoken. Only our enemies should have the monopoly of hatred. We need to respect our present enemies and "choose life" over death, for them too. His words are contrary to Judaism which preaches peace and life over war and death.
24. Rabbi:Ovadia Yosef
JUDAH THE LION   (08.29.10)
When the Arabs & Muslim world calls for incitements, genocide, hatred, and teaching their young children at the age 3-6 years how to kill and shoot at the JEWS.What a bloody hypocrisy.STOP YOUR HATRED,INCITEMENTS,AGAINST JEWS & CHRISTIANS NOW!!!!!!!!
25. Hate to break it to the Palestinians but...
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (08.29.10)
...this clown is not taken seriously by very many people, whether he styles himself as a "spiritual leader" or a cardinal grand duke. Personally, I think he'd be much happier in Iran than in israel: His mindset is identical to that of the ayatolahs and he's dressed like one, too! Tempest in a teapot.
26. Rabby Yosef
RespectIsrael ,   Germany   (08.29.10)
"...an insult to all our efforts to advance peace, he states." by their CHARTAS of hamas and fatas against Israel ? ! ISRAEL Nation, do not be naive, NO MORE! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
27. whats the big deal??
dov ,   bs.as argentina   (08.29.10)
its clear to us that they are our enemies and want to kill us, so for once someone with guts stands up and says it clearly the world goes crazy? does anybody really think the Palestinians want peace? there really is no solution but to educate them one by one.
28. Tongue tied!
~~Lengualima~~ ,   USAGBFR   (08.29.10)
In this moment what Rabbi Abadia has said, is a unnecessary and provocative statement, when Israel-Arabs go to sit at negotiation table this kind of affirmation in place to help will serve to give arms to the enemy to attack Israel, with the problems of media that has Israel in the world, and on own soil. All institutions of Israel must be careful at no hand over ammunition who go to use against Jews. Maybe from the point of view of the justice and comparing them with Arabs media say every day, Fatah, Hamas, Hizbollah, Iran, is nothing. The Israel people must be united as one block, shoulder with shoulder, arm with arm."Long life to Israel"

30. Not so fast
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.29.10)
"Saeb Erekat, the chief Palestinian negotiator, said Yosef's latest comments were tantamount to calling for "genocide against Palestinians" and demanded a firm response from the Israeli government." Erekat needs to check his own organization's charter, which calls for the destruction of the State of Israel and the extermination and/or expulsion of the Jews. I do not condone what the Rabbi said; in fact, I think he is a member in good standing of the lunatic fringe. But this was not a call for "genocide," it was a call for divine intervention to rid Israel of violent and terrorist elements who seek our demise. Erekat has no right to complain in any event, unless and until he is prepared to renounce the Fatah charter and recognize the inalienable right of the State of Israel to exist in its ancient homeland. Thus far, he shows no inclination to do so, therefore one can only surmise that he supports the call for the destruction of the State of Israel and the extermination and/or expulsion of the Jews. If that's not a call for genocide, I'm hard pressed to think what is.
